    Hi Mark, pleasure to meat you,  and see you creation! We are now back home, and i am back at work. We both had a smashing time, and yes would love to return at some point. Glenuig will now go into its storage place for the next 6 weeks, and the slate quarry needs a look at before Maccalsfield, 

     

    Glenuig's next show will be Sutton Coalfield 27-28/04/13

    Thanks Dave, and good to meet you, and put a face to the name. 

    We are yet to leave the Bonny land, but reality will catch up with use tomorrow, so for the time being, we are slumming it in the George hotel at Inveraray.

    Hi all

     

    Well he glen is boxed up and ready for the off. A lot of work has been done since Stafford show, all the point motors have been removed and most of the micro switches replaced with V4 type, and the motors now attached to the board with a quick change system. 

     

    So off north we shall go, to the ends of the M74, please pop by and say hallo, and make yourself known, i am hopeless with faces.

     

    All that remains now,  is to get the layout and the missus luggage in the car, wish me luck!

    Andy, sorry we have gone of on a tangent, from the original thread. I was aware that panniers escaped up the far north line, but Mark (Mr Tatty) now that you have proved by your own photographic evidence that such brass toped creations traveled on the Kyle line, when do we expect to see one at Portchulin, or will you use the old excuse that the Highland fuel is the wrong kind of coal. :no:

    I dare say this would make you smirk............................I am afraid Mr Collet's finest have infiltrated the west coast of the highlands already!

    This is the sign coming into Strathcarron from the west..............it made me shudder!

    i must of driven past that sign umpteen times and never noticed, i suppose, the nearest thing to a western engine that got that far was D1015 a few years ago, waiting now for the photo of a pannier tank at Kyle!

    Hi all

    back from Stafford, and i can report that the gulls where about the only thing that behaved. Another point failure towards the end, of the show, and i have a big snagging list to work through before Glasgow. 

     

    other than the problems, i have had a very enjoyable time, and having solved my operator problems, i found myself at a loose end, and ended up walking round and seeing the other exhibits. great to see so many of you, and sorry if i didn't  recognize you. 

     

    So, preparations to start, for the visit north of the boarder, see you in a few weeks time.

    Hi Eddie

    I am aware of the wee shop opposite, and always try to book the room that overlooks the shop, it has the best view in the hotel! 

     

    Just got back from Stafford, and i seam to have spent most of the day under the base boards sorting out a dodgy Fulgurex point motor, i did have a spare but i just couldn't get on with it. Stayed a little after the show, and the offending item has now been replaced with a Colbolt unit. Of all the ones that could have failed it had to be  the loco release point. I must apologize for some on the operating, this was mainly due to letting a real railwayman lose with the controls!

    really looking forward to visiting the big tin shed, and there is free training available on the NCE powercab, over the weekend!. The weekend has worked out well, we usually have a brake at this time of year so i had some time off work available, so after the show closes, we are off to the west, who could resist a few nights at the George at inveraray!

    Hi all

     

    Glenuig has been recovered from its storage place, where it has been since Wigan show. The spiders have been evicted and the track cleaned. Yesterday morning, I hadn't a fellow operator lined up for Stafford, and just when I was starting to sweat, and think that it was going to be another “wigan” where I ended doing the two days on my own, (with a little help) just like buses, three offers turned up!

    A few bits of maintenance have been done, one rail had lost a feed, and I had one of those springy bits on a fulgurex point motor switch go ping. The seagull rotator has been fitted with a new speed controller, to stop them escaping.

     

    Mark and Frank, looking forward to seeing you at the upcoming shows, Glasgow will be particularly interesting, my wonderful other half (she reads this) “Janice” will be accompanying me north of the boarder, and after the end of the show, we have decided to stay in Scotland for a few days, so making it a bit of a holiday.

     

    So see you all at Stafford

    DIY DC Controller - any ideas

    If you are looking for a simple DC controller that WORKS, then look at this.

     

    This is one of the controllers I built using a circuit from "Model railway electrictronics" by Roger Amos.

     

    I can't fault it, and the slow running is excellent for such a simple circuit. It will put a lot of PWM controllers to shame!

    I have to agree with Frank, i have used the same design as Franks for years on my big roundy roundy, and you get a quality controller for very little effort .

    I was on a Hertfordshire Railtours trip quite a few years ago now where the 47 on the rear derailed on a crossing - somewhere in the Immingham area IIRC. In that case the track spread under the loco.

     

     

    Reading the linked thread, I was surprised that the diamond crossing was being made in Romania. Is it standard practice now to out-source this work rather than NR doing it in house, or at least in the UK?

    If the common crossings are cast, i very much doubt if there is a foundry left trading in the uk to cast them.

    Hi all

     

    Dave, I am going to make a governing devise for the birds, and the missus (Jan) say's can she lunch with you?.

     

    Stewart , I had to have a double take, and check that it said 2013 on the invite! , I had turned an offer down this year because of a high workload in January, but it just happened that I usually have a few days off in February, so it was just a matter of shifting things around. Two weeks after Model rail Scotland, I am at Macclesfield with the slate quarry. And then Sutton Coalfield with Glenuig and then a good break till the autumn,

     

    The biggest problem I am going to encounter, is getting the layout, the good lady, the layout, and the good lady's luggage in the Yarris!
