  1. It's a disused line on the southern outskirts of Edinburgh
  2. The geometric appearance of the path and track in the NE part of the square is because they are on the edge of an international airport. If the railway line is followed for about 4 miles eastwards it passes the site of what was once a scrapyard. Fortunately for airline passengers, these two facts are not linked.......
  3. South of Lesmahagow, next to the M74.
  4. Passenger services were lost on this line as a result of the Beeching cuts, though it remained open for freight. The passenger services were restored in 1995.
  5. South of Fakenham, Norfolk
  6. Clue, the line is ex-LNWR and is about 300m above sea level.
  7. Defford, on the Brum to Bristol line.
  8. ....... so there are lots of kettles as well as tin cans on this line. Regular services terminate at the station shown though the line does continue to a connection with NR.
  9. Clue - it's connected to, but not part of, Network Rail.
  10. A couple of miles east of Bere Alston on the LSWR line to Plymouth
  11. Yes I've got it. It's between Aberfoyle and Flanders Moss, not far from the only lake in Scotland, Lake Mentieth Just looking at the map, its near some homesteads ending with 'offerance'. These were the basis, in location, for the Ian Banks book 'Whit', which I can recommend - its a scream.
  12. Perhaps yes. But I'm afraid I'm looking at your latest offering with a deal of suspicion. I still recall the pipeline teaser north-east of Wick where I would not think of looking for a railway.
  13. The square to the east.....
  14. Of the eastbound services, some go to a small town, but others go to a well known cathedral city which has significant railway associations.
  15. Clue, there are regular passenger services on this line. All the westbound ones go to the seaside.
