Brilliant news from EFE Rail. Can't beat a Bloater! Out of interest would the chassis on this Bloater cover other GWR wagon diagrams such as the Fruit D?

Here's the link: https://rainbowrailways.co.uk/2024/04/22/wessex-class-150/ Rich is right. I believe if there is sufficient interest then they will produce another batch. This one is finished as 150 233 'The Lady Margaret of Looe Valley'. Always a favourite. I have Wessex Trains poster for the Looe Valley Line which I purchased off a small stall at Looe Station run by the Devon & Cornwall Rail Partnership many years ago. It has a Class 150 in this livery at Terras Crossing. A lovely spot. It's now framed and pride of place in the bathroom. Cheers, Mark

KMRC Southern Railway Gate Stock for sale as either spares or repairs. It was to be part of a Southern Railway layout I had planned. However, I changed period to BR/SR and is now surplus to requirements and sold as an uncompleted project. I have since acquired the BR/SR version of Set 373 which had plated over sides fitted in later years. It comes in the wrong box. Airbrush finished in acrylic Malachite the HMRS Methfix transfers reacted with the paintwork leaving a bloom in some areas. This needs rectifying. Perhaps waterside transfers would be the better option. Sadly, windows for the side driving compartment and brake van are missing on one side. Buffers have been replaced with Roxey turned brass versions. I intended to modify the protruding steps so removed the. Like part of the glazing some of these have gone missing whilst in storage. What remains are included. The carriage is intact and finished the same. I did modify the end seating to both carriages to make gangways as these were not represented in the interior seat mouldings. Remains of the footsteps and an unopened detailing pack enclosed. Sold as spares or repair. £30 including postage by Royal Mail Second Class Signed For. Payment by PayPal please. Cheers, Mark

Payment by PayPal please. Cheers, Mark

Evening Tony, I would agree re: BR green 4MT 4-6-0's being more WR based. Not sure if you would have seen them at Chester? I'm a bit biased, but to me the 4MT 4-6-0's always look smartest in lined black. That's coming from someone with WR persuasions. I would certainly agree re: BR Standard grime. After a few months in service the gloss would certainly start to diminish. It will certainly be interesting to see what Geoff can do with your Standard Class 4MT. Cheers, Mark

Hi Tony, What a lovely job you have made on the old Mainline Standard Class 4MT 4-6-0. Your photographs capture the graceful lines of these locomotives. In someways with the work you have put into the chassis build, it would be lovely to see the loco receive a fresh coat of paint. Doing a bit of research Nottingham 16A did acquire 75044/75055 from Bedford 15D in 1960. A bit out of period for Little Bytham perhaps, but with some modellers licence perfectly feasible. Cheers, Mark

That's a cracking link Neil. Lovely atmospheric shots. Cheers, Mark

Here you are Robin.. I'm in the process of detailing this Siphon G. The bogies have steps, guard irons and sanding pipes which I have removed here. This combination of bogies with a Siphon G is not a common pairing as Mike above has identified. However, as a quick fix for both the Airfix Siphon G/H models it may fit the bill. Cheers, Mark

Hi Pete, I bit the bullet with the Kernow bogies. I did fit Shapeways 3D printed versions to this Airfix Siphon G, but they rode too high with 14mm wheels. The Kernow bogies are in a different league altogether being made from cast metal, highly detailed and running on fine 14mm profile wheels. This is with the two vertical prongs cut flush and fitted with the Airfix mounting pin. So far, so good. Just need to source suitable nuts, bolts and washers for a permanent fix. Don't think you will be disappointed. Cheers, Mark

For those interested in a kit built Siphon H. Not mine. Thought it looked well built and finished and may be of interest. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/355649404098?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=jsssom8wq4s&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=MNMqJGNPSxi&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Does anyone know of the origins of the kit producer? Cheers, Mark

Talking of London Transport Panniers, I asked Steve at Railtec Transfers to make up some London Transport reporting numbers as carried by the Panniers. Here's Steve's excellent 3D printed transfers. Really pleased with these. Here's a Pannier I have renumbered as L89 using the Railtec Transfers sheet. Cheers, Mark

Mr Tailby, I've been expecting you.. Well spotted! I think three turnouts and a single slip, doubles the number on the original Juniper Hill...😉 Looking forwards to getting stuck into this project. No great advances over this weekend sadly. However, I've been working on the coupling between the CDC tender and the Hornby Sentinel. The three London Transport Panniers I have need detailing as well, including the London Transport modifications. Look out soon for a update. Nice to hear from you Dave. Cheers, Mark

Thanks Pete. Hopefully it will generate a bit of interest and offer something a bit different. In trying to keep things simple, all being well I can capture some of the flavour of the original Juniper Hill. The London Transport livery on the Panniers does look very smart. However as I alluded to previously, they almost reverted to BR black. Never say Never... (I don't think Pierce Brosnan appeared in that one?..) Cheers, Mark

For my next project I wanted to try to capture the workings of London Transport's Pannier Tanks especially their trips to Croxley/Watford tip. Waste was brought up from the London Underground network. This would have included general waste as well as railway generated by products. As some of you may know around 10 years ago I built a very simple layout based on the Northamptonshire ironstone railways called Juniper Hill. Again trying to revert to the principles of Juniper Hill, I thought I would build a layout that captured the essence of Croxley tip. In this instance the infamous Ikea Lack shelf provides the baseboard. A small Lack shelf will be used for the staging yard. The layout is called Juniper Hill Tip as a bit of an homage to its forebears. Keeping things simple I am using Peco Code 100 trackwork and Insulfrogs. The layout will be free standing and lit with LED lighting. The ex-GWR 57xx Pannier tanks which London Transport acquired from British Railways looked very smart in their lined out livery. The familiar form of the Pannier is transformed in its new paintwork. Obviously as time progressed the Panniers certainly took on a work weary patina. Perhaps an understatement. The excellent book Red Panniers, by Scott-Morgan and Martin (2008) published by Lightmoor Press is a very good introduction to their service with London Transport and the people who worked on them. Bachmann have produced a number of London Transport liveried Panniers over the past 20 years or so. Quite sort after on the pre-owned market it is good to know the excellent Bachmann spares department can supply you with a new London Transport Pannier bodyshell and matching wheelsets if you have a donor to convert. Steve at Railtec Transfers also produces a set of replacement numbers if required. Above is a Bachmann London Transport BR built brake van. Again very much sort after. Above is a the old Kitmaster/Airfix/Dapol brake van finished in London Transport livery using Revell acrylics and the sadly no longer available Modelmaster London Transport wagon transfer set. The withdrawal of the Panniers in 1971 meant the end of steam on the Underground. London Transport obtained three previously owned 6 wheeled Sentinel diesel locomotives which had worked at Corby ironstone quarries (Going full circle back to the original Juniper Hill) to replace the Panniers. Refurbished they had dumb buffers fitted to help with the mounting of the standard London Transport Ward-Lock coupler. Hornby produce a model of one of the trio (L81) incorporating these modifications. Very good it is to. Similar to the BR Class 03's, the Sentinel's could not activate track circuits so a tender was attached with a trip cock. This was made from an old 'Q' trailer stock bogie. They were fitted with hinged buffers as well as the Ward-Lock coupling. Thankfully CDC Designs have produced a 3D printed tender to assist with a prototype Sentinel formation. Today I have cut the track work ready for laying. Test running has been successful and shows the operating potential of the layout. Over the course of the build of the layout I will discuss the general build, scenics and look at detailing the stock, including the modifications the Panniers received to work on the Underground's old Metropolitan lines. Cheers, Mark
