Interesting set of photos there Mike, thanks for sharing them. Judging by the position of the Mk1 stock, it was lucky the crane wasn't trapped 'on shed'.... mind you, it's possible it could have gone up the engine and carriage flyover and been shunted onto the down carriage line at Ladbroke Grove or Westbourne Park (there were a lot more crossovers then before the area was remodelled). Must have been tricky raising the jib between the two 'mitre' bridges though. I was at OC from August '83 but don't remember this, perhaps it occured before then... looks a bit wet, so it could have been July!

Don't you have in cab wi-fi then? Shame on your rail operator - seriously, would you not be able to get on using a dongle, or is there a rule about having a laptop in the cab when on duty - I'd guess that there probably is?
Don't forget that we've got several here who are logging in at sensible times where they live. Pete (Trisonic) is in New York, so his times are a bit different - but he also appears to be a bit nocturnal nonetheless as he seems to log on in the middle of the night local time.
In cab wi-fi he says.... oh how I laughed! We're not even supposed to have our company issue mobile phones switched on whilst in the cab (apart from use in an emergency) let alone anything else!
Cheers for the welcome

Hi Nidge and welcome to the drivel factory interesting and stimulating debate of ERs. We promise to be soft on you for a day or two at least!
Cheers, I'm soft enough already according to my other half!
Logging in and seeing other folks postings at 3 and 4am is a bit odd... I'm usually sat in a goods loop somewhere at that hour, or homeward bound in one of the staff vans listening to The 'Orrible 'Oo at full blast

Morning all, my first post in this thread as I'm usually on nights!
Looking out of the window as I type this, the Autumn colours are wonderful, despite the gray sky looming above. The extra hour in bed was disturbed by one of the cats jumping on the bed demanding her breakfast as usual, some things never change. Waiting for the missus to get off the computer, I was sat on the bed with an Ivo Peters book listening to the local church bells wafting in through an open window... very nice.
Planning on finishing off the weathering on my Bachmann Flying Pig today once the chores are done, about time really.... I've not touched it for over a year! In fact, I haven't done any modelling at all in the last twelve months....

Re post #477.... that last shot with the 9F on empty stock... looks how tidy the P/Way and cess are, and the lineside grass looks like grass matting on a layout!
Been dipping into this fascinating thread from time to time, what an archive it's turned out to be B)

I knew I had these two lurking in the hard drive somewhere.... Rugby c1982...( the smaller crane was often found here at the time, usually hemmed in at the back of the up sidings by the old wiring train)
Mike - the cold winds used to blow up to Old Oak from the open field down by Wormwood Scrubs as I recall
