    Phil, I don't want to through a spanner in the works but if you're using Hornby's 31 111 as a starting point for your pre-Tops blue 'un you might have to get the scalpel out... IIRC that body moulding has the bodyside steps plated over and possibly the roof boiler hatch too.... as far as I can make out these areas weren't plated over till at least 1975, by which time of course the class were well into their Tops numbered phase.... !

    I wish them luck finding a preserved railway that has the room and the axle loading limit to actually take one mind, maybe even two.

     

    How about the Bluebell??? laugh.gif After all they have worked on the Ardingly branch....

    That should get me hit over the head by someone when I return to work tomorrow....

    Hornby castle arriving?

    Any luck removing the lubricator Drandles? All my pictures of Earl Cairns show it without the lubricator behind the pipe, and I believe this is pretty much how it remained unless anyone knows better. Funny how Hornby can get details such as handrails and pipes right but miss a glaringly (?) incorrect one like that.

     

    With regard to the lubricator... I was wondering whether or not the Irwell Press 'Book Of The Castles' covers this detail.... had a quick skim through my mates copy of it last week but not long enough to take in the individual loco histories, it might be worth a punt wink.gif

    This isn't my model but I couldn't resist snapping it and giving it a bit of the old nostalgic treatment... D1000 at the York show yesterday, what a beautiful piece of kit...... hats off to whoever built and painted it.....
