  1. Goy my old Rover P6 back on the road at last! Sounds like a Warship on idle ;o)

Congrats. P6s are not often seen now, so another one back on the road will be great. One of the P6 prototypes, the Talago, sold at auction recently for £18k!

  3. You are a tease Mike! Ref the full brakes, obviously until we have one in our sticky mitts we don't know how to dismantle them (possibly to remove the glazing if needed) but I guess a repaint into BR blue wouldn't be too difficult. Likewise with the gangways, It shouldn't be too much to remove them and plate the area over, I've done it with a few old Lima Syphon Gs in the past and it was a quick and easy job. Here's W333 at Toddington last year... Nidge
  4. Great work Brian, it always amazes me just how much stuff you manage to get done, the 27 looks so characterful already, can't wait to see it painted. Love the Oleos on the Big Bad Brush B)... where are they from? Nidge
  5. Thanks Larry. Time to dig out a few more books and have a good old perusal methinks... a nice plain black Grange with early BR crest and red backed plate, hauling some choc & cream / blood & custard Hawksworths and the odd Syphon suddenly seems very appealing B) Craig - I wasn't aware of the Royal pair, cheers for the tip. 7. Can't answer that Coach but the very idea of it has made me reach for Russell's 'GW Coaches Appendix #1' again.... on page 165 our man has an official Swindon shot of W7383 in double lined out chocolate & cream 'as bult in 1948'! How long would they have lasted in this livery do you think? (I'm not sure how often Swindon shopped their coaching stock in those days). A mate is bringing his Hawksworth round tomorrow, can't wait to get my sticky mitts on them! Nidge
  8. doubled headed Manors in the dark on the SVR last night... magical! Was it really this good back in BR days...?

  15. Very, very nice Larry, thanks for posting those pics. As soon as my eyes fell on the first photo I said 'wow' out loud, I know it's easy to gush about each new model we see these days but that really is a beauty. This one just oozes finesse and I can't wait to get my hands on some, in both liveries. If that top photo were in black and white it could easily be slipped into one of the Jim Russell books. I wonder what these would look like mixed in with some Bachmann Colletts and Airfix Centenaries... Now then... who's going to be the first one to commit blaspheamy and repaint three of them in blue and grey livery.....! Nidge

That was going down hill light engine ! Most of the work they did would have been at much lower speeds, due in the most part to the maximum line speeds along the routes they spent most of their (too short) lives on. In the late 50s and early 60s, I think the highest speed anywhere on the Cornish mainline was something like 60mph. Having a max speed of 75mph gave them a little extra oomph for recovering from speed restricyions! Nidge
  22. I meant to add, just as a general comment, that the old Bradford Barton 'GW Steam...' albums are a great scourse for WR formations, with many of the photos taken in the late 40s through to the early 60s there are plenty of Collett / Hawksworth / BR combinations, with a few ex- LMS / LNER vehicles thrown in. I know the precise vehicle types aren't that easily identifyable in a lot of them, but the general formations I find very helpful. Most of the albums I've got were picked up very cheaply over time, usually between £2 and £5 each! Nidge

  24. Hi Bob, Prompted by your mention of WR train formations in bold type.... here's a quick shot taken at Kidderminster SVR last week, I know it's a preservation era rake but I think it still pretty much sums up what you've said, being a mix of GW Colletts and BR Mk1s. I was watching the crew shunting the stock around, and standing at more or less rail level (at the bottom of the platform ramp at Kiddy) it was easy to imagine what a typical WR full length train would have looked like in the 50s. I'll be opening my wallet for the maroon Hawksworths and wouldn't mind a couple of crimson and cream ones, plus a few BGs would be nice. Nidge
