  1. Wow, such a long tome since any updates on Orchard Road. In truth not a great deal to report. Apart from an additional loco and a change to the loco refueling rig - changed for one of my own 3D printed kits, nothing further has happened. I don't have any exhibition bookings and the layout remains carefully boxed and stored.

What does this mean now though?

    Well, two things -

I will be setting the layout up in a couple of weeks time to take a new set of photos for hopefully publishing in a magazine

and second, I've been thinking about future modelling plans. I spend quite a bit of time over the last twelve months or so with 3D printing (see my Mudmagnet thread) and a few 0 gauge projects. As a consequence, I've sold and still have a few locos for sale, which then makes me think, what do I want to do with Orchard Road. I still have a number of sound fitted locos and quite a few boxes of rolling stock.

So, I'm considering selling Orchard Road .....

  2. Looking good Gary.

I hadn't realised that you had. progressed so far, not helped having missed your thread on here.

As suggested by others, the platform would look better extended to the 'level crossing' end and in the same vein does not need to run the full length of the run-round loop. That way, an incoming train would run to the end, allow allow 'passengers' off, then set back, run round, then set back into the platform.

I have recently received some of these and I must say that they are excellent.

Wondering if they need any special preparation before painting?

    Cheers

    Chris

    Many thanks Chris.

I would normally apply a couple of thin coats of acrylic paint to build up the colour depth.

  4. I met Iain a couple of times at various shows, mainly RailWells, but also when visiting Titfield Thunderbolt Bookshop in Bath.

I have always enjoyed reading his articles in Model Railway Journal and several of his books. His writing style very easy to read and understand, with a sense of humour.

Will be sadly missed, RIP Iain

  5. Myself and Ray had a great weekend with Hounslow Sidings.

Due to me leaving late from work and bad traffic on the motorway network on Friday, we decided to set up on Saturday. In truth wanted to get in the bar!

    Setting up Saturday very easy.

Very good selection of layouts and traders. Both of us spending only a small amount at said traders.

Was great to have so much space around the halls and good news for the step count on my smart watch! Very good exhibitor lunches as well. Not sure if there was much benefit using the balcony for layouts / demos as well as the smaller area at the end. Perhaps using the balcony rather than the end space might have been better.

Certainly plenty of space to expand as and when finances and visitor numbers allow. My only concern perhaps, that can become too large and then miss more of the layouts / traders, particularly for those who only have a few hours to spend, rather being able to be there most of the day.

As usual a very friendly and enjoyable weekend.

  6. Hornby Class 50 Network South East 50045 Achilles

Hornby Class 50 50045 'Achilles', DCC fitted

This is weathered, where most of the factory weathering has been removed and then replaced following photos of the actual locomotives.

Runs well, although not sure that all the lights work correctly.

    Original box.

Will be well packed for postage.

First Class Royal Mail Signed For.

    Price reduced.

  7. Hi Nick

Excellent work all round. Been seeing photos on Facebook, but kept missing your thread. So much better to view on here though!

The weathering on the 08's is superb, as well as the wagons. The work on the 03 looks great as well, now I wonder where you got those tanks.....

Been thinking about a small O gauge shunting layout myself and really should get on with something. Spending too much time 3D printing and really need a small layout to shunt a few wagons.

Depends if Accurascale are aiming to increase the diesel-era-heavy emphasis in their range, or a take more balanced approach.

My guess is the next major announcement is more likely to be steam-outline and LMS or Southern in origin. Probably not another GWR/WR prototype immediately following the Manor and not LNER/ER because potential purchasers must have been near-bankrupted by Hornby recent times.

I'd prefer something we've never been offered before, but if they want to really set the cat among the pigeons, a Bulleid Light Pacific should do the job nicely. 😉 That said, I think the 8F is the odds-on bet.

    John

I was only thinking about diesel locos as something that many others have mentioned and not a steam modeller so not real idea what is missing or due for updating to modern standards in the normal RTR market.

I do also wonder whether we will see any further wagons, eg 16t mineral as fit in well with the existing range.

  9. I'm reckon that an announcement will be due soon on the next model (s) due to be released.

Obviously AS will be very busy with products arriving before the end of the year, which will keep them busy, but apart from the balance of the class 37's and class 31 due early 2023, the AS warehouse will be very quiet after that!

Clearly not going to be the case, so plenty of new products to be announced for delivery Q2 2023 onwards. Working into that will clearly be a second run of Deltics and more class 37 (Q3 / Q4 2023 ?).

So, are we waiting for a class 08/09 or 50 or something else?
