  1. That picture has the Hornby green looking quite acceptable.
  2. Lovely weathering David. Quite the opposite of my highly polished version in the Hornby section, and I know which would have been more typical! Cheers
  3. I think I know what to expect now, colour-wise, something not-too-different from Hornby's previous Brunswick greens, a bit flat and pale perhaps. The lining looks excellent. I await my two versions, one TMC-weathered, with much pleasure.
  4. Simply superb! Who would have believed this, a couple of years ago.
  5. As an example of the variability of prototype colours, here is our doughty 60501 again with boiler cab and tender colours copied from a prototype photo of an A2/3 'Chamossaire'. If you polished an 00 model like this, many might doubt the accuracy? I wasn't sure if CotN ever had lined cylinders either.
  6. In the never-ending quest for the perfect rendition of BR Brunswick green, here is something like the Hornby version on the pre-production A2s, copied onto my 60501.. the lining is as you can see very approximate. At least it gives me a lot of practice in dealing with the various faded green versions which are about. One wonders if the paint specifications on the livery assessment models never got applied to the production models.
  7. While pushing the limits of placing my edited pictures in product threads, I think 'elegant' is fairly close from some angles... concentrated three-cylinder power, certainly. Now, how will this look in blue I wonder?
  8. I've never had a problem with that mix of photography and painting. Some oil painters I think use photos as templates, to me a painting, image or photo is representation, sometimes pleasing and evocative, of a real thing, place, atmosphere, whether it be straight oils, or digital manipulation of an image. But as you point out, it depends on the presentation, and if it is deceptive and falsely claiming to to an accurate depiction of an engine when it is not, then that is false and unacceptable.
  9. I have plenty of P2 2001 pictures but the before and after shots really are painful! And then there were the Bugatti-nose variations... so you mean to turn this dog's breakfast of an engine thus, into a graceful well-proportioned piece de resistance like this... Say no more. Actually I wonder if the A2/2 valve gear will fit the Bugatti P2s? I was going to say, 'just as well we had Stanier to show the way', but then I thought better of it.
  10. Again for fun I converted an A2/2 to Bachmann livery a la 60534 'Irish Elegance'. At least that's where the colours and lining were from. A bit rough needs tidying. which was originally a bit like this.. In some ways I prefer the red lining on the Hornby but the obvious answer is make it entirely work-stained! Or if only Hornby had kept the livery evaluation colours as per the pic at or near the top of this page.... Will 60523 'Sun Castle' look as good as this? We shall soon find out.
  11. Thanks David, I think they both look great, and the Bachmann style lower version is certainly interesting to my eye. Never having seen the real things I have to rely on photos, and even then, light, smoke, stam, lubricant, and wear and tear wrought so many variations Now that the A2/3s are being sold by retailers we shall soon know if there is further scope for re-liveries and re-numberings. I look forward to it!
  12. When the first rumours of impending arrivals of A2/3s reached me about 2 months ago they were specifically about the BR models and no mention was made of the LNER variants, and we have had the Chinese New Year come and go with presumably some production delays, staff coming and going, re-training, and so on, so it's anybody's guess when the apple green models might arrive. Happy to receive all rumours though.
  13. They are not alone, Kernow have despatched my 60523 'Sun Castle' today and I look forward to seeing it in NZ in 6-12 days... by which time I ought to know if the livery is any way changed. To keep sanity in these matters I pre-odered a blue Merchant Navy yesterday.... one does require balance in these things you know.
  14. It may not be 35024 but getting close.... Now I'll have to buy one!
  15. I look forward to any further progress on the much-discussed Hornby A2/2... efore we know it we will be dealing with Scottish-based A2/3s, here is that cropped pic of your 'work-in-progress 60501.... As you know I'm having fun with the photos of my A2/2. cheers
  16. With mention of Hornby BR Brunswick green mentioned a few messages back, along with other beautiful RTR models in various gauges, I just for fun using a computer , PSP6 to be exact, applied a version of Bachmann's green to the latest Hornby A2/2 60501. It looks rather odd when compared, and who is to say which is more 'real', I certainly don't know. Please ignore the steam and smoke, engines tended not to blow off on shed! Just for fun, anyway. https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/162234-help-ive-begun-to-like-the-look-of-thompson-pacifics/page/3/&tab=comments#comment-4349464 Cheers
  17. Superb! What a lovely model. If only the factories in China could get that paint as good as that, and the subdued lining is good too.
  18. Thanks David, much appreciated. I have created by virtual means a livery on 60501 which approximates Bachmann Brunswick green, as well as a darker Hornby version, here... https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/162234-help-ive-begun-to-like-the-look-of-thompson-pacifics/page/3/&tab=comments#comment-4349464
  19. With considerable discussion the A2/2 and A2/3 thread about the Hornby version of Brunswick green, several people have shown excellent examples of weathering and re-painting, landscapes and Market65 among them. I being less adept as such things have chosen to try to modify the look of the livery with computer methods, here is R3830 60501 with the green something like 40% darker and a bit more yellow, and below that a copy of a weathered Bachmann or kit-built A2... I forget which, I just matched the colours and lining. The tender in both cases is the Hornby livery darkened, and Hornby for this model and perhaps Hornby use more red than Bachmann who use straw or orange for lining? Either way it's a fine model and a lot of fun to mess with, albeit in a virtual way here.
  20. Now there's a project to look forward to, having pre-ordered each model. Currently trying to use colour editing tools to make A2/2 60501 look as good as landscapes' version, or even my Bachmann Peppercorn A2 but no luck so far and may have to resort to straight painting (in my case of the virtual kind). Result will be in the other A2 tread 'Help! I'm Beginning to Like Thompson Pacifics' eventually.
  21. Three photos showing an interesting comparison. Not edited so please be aware that lighting and cameras have a major influence, this is for entertainment as much objective measure... Firstly a cropped view of landscapes part-finished 60501. Then a Bachmann A2 'out of the box'. and a Hornby 60501 similarly 'out of the box'. I hope you don't mind David, I should have asked first! cheers
  22. Well David the lining and the rich Brunswick green on 60501 has inspired me (again) to see if I can achieve something comparable in my upcoming A2/2 portraits. We are lucky that the prototypes varied so much in paint condition. Your photo really looks good.
  23. Very impressive! Will there be be any further weathering? On a slightly different subject I'm wondering how the imminent A2/3s will look and also did either of the BR versions visit 64B or get used on the Waverley route?
  24. Yes, R3834 and R3835 don't appear at all on the Hornby website now, at least not that I could find. But R3830 CotN and R3831 are 'in stock', Co-ordinating models received with pre-orders and availability is clearly a delicate art.
  25. Hornby website now shows R3834 A2/3 'Steady Aim' as 'out of stock'. One wonders what is going on, but as several have mentioned import and export by container is no simple task these days.
