  1. Opened up the Minicraft 1872 Vulcan Loco and Coaches kit this evening. One of the instructions says "All parts will fit. If not, you've made a mistake." Let's see about that...

  2. Really looking forward to Glasgow tomorrow - several layouts I really want to see!

  3. Wondering if anyone in Edinburgh has a static grass applicator they would lend him - a bit expensive to buy just to do a couple of square inches on the shunting plank!

  4. Just listed his first items on eBay... Scary stuff!

      You will never look back!!

  5. Trying to fit detailing parts to the new Hornby Schools is terrifying!

Perhaps better to leave them in the box where they belong :-)

Two of my Schools ended up having to go back to the service center after damage to the loco-tender electrical connection (way beyond my ability to solder - I'm not a microsurgeon). Lovely models, though.

  6. Does anyone else find painting the chevrons on distant signals really hard work?

  7. Just got two of the old Playcraft signal kits in the post. Had forgotten how much fun they are to build!

  8. Just got woken up by a bucketful of cold water to the feet. Thanks, washing machine!

  9. Trying to find old, no-longer-produced products is fun... anyone seen any of the old GEM ground signals kicking about recently?

I didn't even know GEM made those!

Yup, used to make 00 scale (ish!) working ground signals, I presume to work with their Mercontrol system!

  10. Sitting waiting for an exam... Feeling confident about it, just want it to start so it can be over!

  11. Just picked myself up a new Railroad County 4-4-0 from the LMC. Some slightly clunky bits, but some also *gorgeous* bits...

  12. Several hours with Brasso = one fully working old Scalextric set!

  13. Considering putting two years of uni studying Electronics to the test and building a PWM controller...

  14. In the middle of my first experiment with respacing Peco sleepers. Still undecided if it's worth it...

  15. Just started fitting Peco Anita couplings to all his wagons. Much nicer than the standard huge loops, and perfect close-coupling!

  16. finds it frustrating returning from university to hear "Oh, your mum knocked *list of scenery items* off the layout while you were away..."

  17. thinks the board to his first layout may be finally succumbing to the moist air of the garage... unfortunately, as we're only renting the garage, we can't seal it up... Time to think about starting afresh?

Beg/Steal/Borrow a Dehumidifier? I used one for months in a rented flat...

I found the garage exactly the same, unfortunately a total no go area.

  18. is slowly going blind painting a 1:1200 model. And I thought T scale was tiny!

  19. thinks he might have made a mistake buying a "starter" spraygun set. Can't get the paint nozzle low enough to spray paint!

  20. is trying to cut brake shoes out of plastikard. It's very fiddly...

  21. Just starting another Peco kit - a station building... How many model railways out there have the old Manyways kits on them?

  22. has just managed to get his hands on a Dapol 14xx - they're becoming like hens' teeth, it seems!

Mine's been in store for about 4 years. took it out to club last week , it ran beautifully, BUT it's lost it's safety-valve cover.

Asked Hornby if spares available, awaiting a reply, but not hopeful! Any suggestions?

(will post again in "Help" area)

  23. knocked a bottle of poly cement over in his bedroom all over a lovely panelled coach... and wonders if the glue fumes explain why he feels sick this morning...

  24. wonders if anyone else is having issues with PayPal right now?

  25. has returned home from uni for Christmas, just got the old 00 layout out, and boy does 8'x4' feel huge compared to my 5'x1' N gauge uni layout!
