  1. Loving the fact that my Operating Systems lecturer keeps explaining concepts in terms of railway signalling. Mutual exclusion and deadlock in terms of single-line working today.

  2. Fiddling around with a Hornby Pug, a Dapol Pug kit and trying to make a vaguely industrial-looking shunter...

  3. That wonderful moment when you realise you have nearly two dozen coaches... and only one shunting plank with (barely) enough space for four of them in all of the sidings!

Perhaps you and muddys-blues could compare notes about a surfeit of coaches? :-D

      Build a bigger plank! Simples!

  5. Just found the remains of an old City of Truro kit. My Mainline Collett Goods now has a backhead.

(Despite them both been GWR) Result!

It's unlikely to be all that close to the real thing, but it looks better than a big electric motor in the cab!

  12. Hmmm, any dieselphiles know if the newly-announced Hornby Sentinel diesel shunter is the same class as "Enterprise" at the Ribble Steam Railway?

Essentially yes - similar but different! Modified with air compressor box, short fuel tank and thicker buffer beams

      No, it doesn't do 0-warp 8 is 12.4 seconds.

  13. Internet dropped out yesterday, so actually got some modelling done for a change!

  14. Just spent fifteen minutes (and three springs) trying to replace a "sprung" Kadee coupling spring. >.< Now I see why they pack so many spares in a packet!

      I'm with you there! :)

  15. Agreed to try to repair an old Hornby tender-drive A4... finally got the thing running, set it to run in on the rolling road, then smoke and sparks from inside the motor! Any suggestions?

Jon: Thanks, will have another look this evening. Half tempted to return the whole thing as a lost cause!

  16. Might have just bought a Peco Talyllyn kit with the Branchlines chassis... Fun, given that I don't model in 7mm:foot and have never built a loco kit before. Have I bitten off more than I can chew?

  17. Amazing what a lick of paint'll do, isn't it Gromit?

Painting the wheels of a Mainline loco to remove the big chunky silver rims makes a heck of a difference!

  18. First attempts at lining transfers... Other than getting orange instead of red (whoops!) not going badly at all!

  19. Finally getting around to joining my local MRC!

  20. Building a Revell BR02 kit with my flatmate. Neither of us had realised that it included inside cylinders, complete with cranked axle!

Your next challenge is to make it all revolve and reciprocate! The Br.02 was a 4-cyl compound, just to heap further misery! Deutsche Reichsbahn had them rebuilt to 2-cyl "01" form.

  21. Picked up a very dead looking Triang Jinty with no pickups and a "dead" motor. Stripped down, made up some new pickups and a few drops of oil and it's now growling happily (if a little unevenly) on the rolling road... Not bad for a first attempt!

  22. Well, that's another siding laid... and the last connected up, ready to respace the sleepers. I can finally run things!

Which came first, the Siding or the Mainline?

  23. Time to get the Polyfilla out - my parrot's hungry!

  24. First point laid and working with Mercontrol. That was surprisingly easy!

  25. Anyone else remember those GEM working ground signals? Trying to get hold of a few. They're rare enough to make me wonder if I just imagined their existence!

So they *do* exist! I swear, if I could ever find them on eBay... I want at least two!
