  1. I'm sure this thread warrants a Hitler Rant on measuring DCC voltage measuring!
  2. Certainly start by getting a multimeter. It will inform you of the problem rather than guessing. A cheap digital one will be fine for this sort of work.
  3. Why should any user need to remember EXACTLY, when the phones went in? Correct usage is far more important. To me, it sounds like at least one party has been doing it wrong all along. Is this farmer, the only person to use this crossing, or do random employees/contractors - who might be casual workers and no one trains them properly on the usage at all? Another factor is, how often does this particular farmer use this crossing? If he uses it virtually every day, he is more likely to use it correctly, than if he say uses it for a few days a year at harvest time and doesn't use it for months at a time.
  4. IIRC the 47/8s were all fitted with additional tanks and not a larger tank, so always a potential risk of not both being full. Besides long range tanks, mean that you never run out!
  5. I can see that the signaller needs to know which crossing anyone is calling from, but it appears from the video that the particular farmer had been told, or at least understood to be the case, that it was the other way around. Technically, you should refuse permission, but that is likely to lead to the caller to potentially just crossing anyway. It would appear from the same video, that particular person won't be doing that, because he knows that it is his life at risk. Certainly not the signallers. I do hope that your senior management, has tracked this farmer down and clarified EXACTLY what the correct conversation MUST be.
  6. All of which, SHOULD mean that they have more time to look ahead, at EXACTLY where they are going. Yeah, I know it doesn't quite work like that. Is bridge bashing getting more common, or is it just a case of more people carrying a camera at all times, thus able to record the aftermath?
  7. That makes 100% sense to fill everything up, whenever you have the opportunity. As unlike road vehicles, you can't just stop anywhere on a long run and top up sufficiently to get to your destination! With a train, it's a major inconvenience to run out of fuel, which for obvious reasons requires rescue locomotives and lots of 'please explain' paperwork.
  8. Oi, stop quoting common sense! This is something like what multimeters should be showing and more than adequately meets most needs, it doesn't have to be 100% accurate to 14 decimal places!
  9. You could always ask the copyright holder to come forward, with both parents!
  10. It ought to be remembered that these types of models were intended purely for the toy market and so cost came into it. The cheapest way is to use an existing chassis/power bogie and make a new body to fit. If they found a prototype suitable, but it needed stretching or compressing to fit, well so be it. The average parent or relatives didn't care, as long as it was cheap for a birthday/Christmas present.
  11. Conversely in Australia, a smaller movie company from the US tried to sue Australian's who had downloaded a B grade movie from the US (pirating). It was done by forcing internet providers in a court order, to provide details of those 'guilty'. They sent them invoices to those they could trace (many internet providers refused to comply), for exhorbitant amounts. It ended up in court and eventually the judge threw the case out, because the promoters failed to convince the judge the alleged extent of the 'loss'. In other words, plain greedy. Obviously, this was intended as a test case (they selected a smaller maker, with a relatively small number of downloads, rather than a major blockbuster - for obvious reasons), for the industry generally. While it failed, there is some changes to the Copyright Law in Australia, mainly to make it more closely aligned with the US. For the record, I don't download American movies, least of all 'B grade ones!
  12. I wonder how The Rolling Stones are going to get on, with their demands to stop Trump from using their music without permission, for his re-election campaign? Now if someone like Getty threatened Andy York, of the consequences of not removing one their photos, he would no doubt remove it at the earliest opportunity. Indeed, I wouldn't be surprised, if that had already occurred.
  13. Just as well copyright doesn't seem to apply to the jokes and 'things that make you :-) ' threads. Otherwise they'd be empty!
  14. Do any of the locos work if you disconnect all power supplies and with the blanking plate in place, connect a 9 volt battery across the track?
  15. Well done ladies! https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/we-laughed-our-heads-off-cheeky-aged-care-calendar-a-hit-20200625-p5566z.html
  16. It might be a 'monstrosity', but such a thing is more likely to derail a train, than a horse and cart of old. The results for a horse and cart and it's driver would be dire, compared to a big steam loco. Fact is modern equipment is far more dangerous at a level crossing, than it was previously. In the trains case, it is likely to be going faster and quieter.

    Charge Time

You need to find the model number and put the question into Google or similar. Battery charger charge times vary all over the place, many have fast chargers (around an hour), or slow chargers (6 hours plus). Better still, find your manual on line.
  18. It is certainly poor practice for the signaller to not confirm the location. Especially since they presumably have several similar locations. Wasn't there an incident reported much earlier in this thread, where there was an accident caused by confusion about the location? Yes it would be good public relations to invite the farmer to the centre, so he can see how the place operates. But it would be a good idea to ensure that papers and smart phones are out of sight on the day. Don't want to confirm his suspicions! Do signallers visit such crossings, so they can see from the other point of view?
  19. One vehicle goes by = the road is ALWAYS clear behind!
  20. It looks like a mains powered version of the one in this set. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LIMA-assorted-OO-track-including-points-Power-Track-Battery-control-Case-012A/153979311273?hash=item23d9e1d4a9:g:1gAAAOSw0sVe2~Dc I'd still expect it to belong in the bin, even for 3 pounds!
  21. Some more information, hopefully it helps. I see that on Win 10 & FireFox, the option is to 'Mark Site Read'. On my mobile using Samsung Internet, the option is to 'Mark Forum As Read'. So the choice is different and vastly different results! So is there a way to change the PC version?
  22. Well, no joy for me. I usually clear a group/sub group, when I've finished reading posts that interest me. But today, I managed to clear the entire site! What did I do wrong?
