  1. wondered if anyone knows where I put my handrail bending jig last time I used it?

Panic over. It was in the box where it should have been hiding under something else.

You're supposed to build them up, not make them disappear :-)

    3. 69843

      69843

Don't make a mistake, otherwise you could end up with a 1-plank!

    4. richbrummitt

      richbrummitt

69843, that wouldn't be a problem per se because there were plenty of one and two plankers running around circa 1920. That said I already built a DC2 chassis which would need to find another mate.

  3. spent all of yesterday evening looking for the most important part of my minidrill - the chuck key! Grrr.

  4. To my swollen and sore thumb please give me a break.

It's my carpal metacarpal joint. I presume the swelling following injection is normal and things will improve tomorrow. At the moment any thumb movement is extremely painful.

Friend of mine had a similar problem - I think hers was the carpal tunnel, and she ended up having an operation.

How did that end? I am worried about the use of my right thumb. At 30 I am hoping to have a great many more years of happy pain free model making. They say it is quite probably arthritis but a bit of internet doctoring leads me to suspect de Quervain's tenosynovitis.

  5. A first for me: going to an exhibition by train today.

      Sounds great day out!!

  6. Where do I find a thread for the layout pictured on the right hand side of the banner image?

      Andy Y

It's Pendon's Vale scene Rich, there's no specific thread to it as the image was in MI.

      richbrummitt

Thanks Andy. It screamed Pendon but I couldn't recognise it as such.

  7. Footplate ride booked: MHR 17th Feb. :-D

If you haven't done it before you will no believe the sense of power a that regulator is opened - have fun!

      Manxman110

You will really enjoy it. I did it 5 years ago and the booked engine had failed so had to "make do" with "Bodmin" the West Country Pacific - awesome.

  8. Given up trying to post.

  9. It's good to be back at the modelling bench, if only for a short time.

Hope to see some blog entries soon then Rich :D

  10. Lots of 2mm/N blog content to read today. Thanks guys!

  11. Treated myself to a new, more comfortable, chair to sit in at the workbench. Might be able to start using it soon too.

      Not an armchair modeller then?

(Hard wooden chair here - too much comfort is bad for the soul.)

      richbrummitt

Its not exactly luxurious but the existing one was too low really. Once my wrist is properly checked out I'll be back at it - armchair modelling is lame.

  12. Wants stripey pasta as featured on Nigellissima yesterday.

      Phil Copleston

Yummy. But could you handle the chef who cooks the pasta?

  13. Off to see Kevin Bridges tonight. **** yeah

      richbrummitt

Er, probably, plus the bar bill.

  14. Can use CAD left handed. I might still be productive whilst mending!

    1. N15class

      N15class

but will you be able to assemble a left hand kit?

    2. richbrummitt

      richbrummitt

I'm trusting that normal operation will be resumed by the time the etches are drawn, ordered and delivered. I've got a few things on the go (as per usual).

  15. I called. You weren't there.

LoL - then don't share it then (re washing my hair)

  16. Struggling on with one handed life. Thankfully it's only temporary.

    1. Phil Copleston

      Phil Copleston

Then be content to build just one side of the model for now. At least it's progress! :P

  17. After spending a huge chunk of today waiting in the fracture clinic the dislocated thumb is ruled out in favour of a scaphoid fracture that they haven't found yet.

      richbrummitt

I've got to become cack handed until at least mid-December. Not easy.

  18. Isn't the point of an RSU that I can use it with one hand ;-)

      N15class

Yes the RSU can be used with one hand, you still need the other 3 to hold everything in the right place!!!!

    3. martin_wynne

      martin_wynne

Only if you have a footswitch. Otherwise you need two hands. The procedure is -- 1. apply electrode to parts firmly. 2. switch on current. 3. switch off current. 4. wait a second. 5. remove electrode.

    4. richbrummitt

      richbrummitt

I made it with a foot switch.

  19. has spent two hours in A&E acquiring a wrist splint and an appointment at the fracture clinic.

Like wise. Hope that wasn't a modelling injury, no wonder they call 2mm "the dark side!"

    3. bcnPete

      bcnPete

ooh eck - what happened Rich? Hope you feel better soon...

    4. richbrummitt

      richbrummitt

I'll find out more tomorrow. It would seem that I have what approximates to a partially dislocated thumb from a fall several weeks ago and that it is unlikely to fix itself.

  20. Fun times at Farnham today watching the trams go round Hall Quay. Pics in the 2mm section.

  21. Bogie brakes all assembled awaiting fixing with a touch of solder. Time to distract myself to a different ongoing project ;-)

    1. bcnPete

      bcnPete

You mean the one involving the 150 :P

    2. 2mm Andy

      2mm Andy

So that's where all the 2mm coach bogie brake etches have gone! ;o)

    3. richbrummitt

      richbrummitt

No Pete, and not guilty, Andy. I wanted to pick up a few more at the AGM but the peg was empty. My shopping basket was rather small actually: 40 buffers, 30 axles of wagon wheels, 3 packs of top hat bearings, A mink C kit, and a GNR cattle wagon etch. I think the brakes actually came with the coach kits over a year ago, perhaps two.

  22. Mass bogie manufacture update - still on the brake etches.

  23. OMWB tonight: 20 coaches worth of bogie brake etches and 17 pairs of bogies. Where did the other three disappear to? I'm sure I put everything in the same box.

Someone else has the black that moves.

    2. Castle

      Castle

Another miniature black hole! Are those guys at CERN sure that they know what they are doing?

    3. richbrummitt

      richbrummitt

Actually I'm not sure that the brakes came with the kits. I might have enough bogies for the number of coach kits, but I haven't counted them up yet. I thought I had more than 20 though. :-/

  24. Having read some of the S4um thread I'm disappointed I missed it and glad I don't model in 4mm
