  3. The other option that might be worth checking is whether a Dapol A3 (or a B1) bogie would fit. I have no idea if the models are remotely similar, but A3 bogies do seem to be available as spares. Andy

  10. Wills brick arch bridge/viaduct parts as per the photos below (plus some other small parts which aren't in the photos). Two arches have been assembled, as have some of the brick pillars. Available for cost of postage only. NOW TAKEN Andy

  12. Ha - all my free time seems to be taken up with trying to find my modelling mojo. Last seen several years ago now (some time before the official jubilee date). At this rate I might get the Jubilee loco started before the Platinum Jubilee... Glad to hear that the etches are providing value for money though. Andy
  13. There is some information on couplings here; http://www.2mm.org.uk/2FS_Manual/index.html As Don has mentioned, DGs seem to be the most popular type of coupling in 2mm. There were also some similar ones known as B&Bs which are mentioned in the DG article linked above. Andy
  14. Excellent work there, Nick. I suspected that the Rectank etches were probably at the "tricky" end of the different etches I had, although you going from a Stephen Harris etch to one of these has probably highlighted the problems of a shot-down etch a bit (from the sublime to the ridiculous?!). I had intended to keep one of the Rectank etches for myself, but a late enquiry from a 2mm member has resulted in me selling it. I'm now feeling mightily relieved that I did...! The etches came via Ebay, although the idea of a fiddle-playing demon at a crossroads would have been more interesting (maybe I've been listening to too many M.R. James ghost stories over Christmas...) Andy

Light Railway Stores do custom etched NER numberplates in 2mm scale; https://www.lightrailwaystores.co.uk/collections/custom-etched-products/products/npp-412 I have no experience of them personally, so don't know what they are like, but their etches in larger scales are well-regarded. I think Bob Jones might have done 2mm scale custom numberplates on request too? A chap called Phil Smith produced some North Eastern loco transfers quite a few years ago now. They were printed digitally IIRC, and used to be advertised on the 2mm website 'Small Suppliers' section, but disappeared a while back, presumably when they ceased to be available. Andy

  17. I did a conversion of the Farish 64xx not long after they were released (to test the etched coupling rods which are now in Shop 3) and I don't remember having to shorten the muffs. The muffs I used were a slightly translucent white plastic though, so maybe the design has changed since I did it (the photos on the shop listing shows black ones now). Are the inner faces of your bearings recessed as per the left hand bearing below, Ian? PS> to answer Bobs question, I think the 64xx locos were released in 2016. The 2MT and Jinty locos preceded them, having come out in 2013 and 2014 respectively. I'm not sure when the 4F appeared on the scene. regards, Andy

  20. There is a set of 3 articles in the 2mm Magazine (circa 2000) by Stephen Harris on the subject of compensation. Worth a read as they seem to cover some of the points raised above (they are accessible via the member's area of the 2mm website). The loco he fitted the compensation to was an '08' shunter. Andy
  21. A bit harsh perhaps? It is actually of some (limited) use - some of the plastic wagon body kits sold in the shops (the ones originating from Parkside Dundas and a few from the NGS) have buffer guides moulded as part of the body mouldings, so the etch is useful when it comes to fitting buffer heads to those (unless you chop the plastic buffers off and fit the cast or turned brass buffers also available from the shops).   23. I asked my dad about this, as he did a work study course at Harrogate sometime in the 60s or early 70s. He agreed with your thoughts Mike - that it was close to the railway station (ie. in the town) and was a "proper" venue. He does remember evenings off (thanks to already knowing how to use a slide rule prior to attending the course!) and going on trips by bus to Pateley Bridge, Knaresborough and Fountains Abbey as a result.   25. There is a news item in the August issue of Narrow Gauge World magazine reporting that at least one of the Clayton locos has been returned to the manufacturers. Andy
