  1. I take it every actually watched the film on BBC2 this afternoon if not it looks to be on iplayer for the next month.
  2. Bachmann never did any 86s did they in 00 ? the 47 Id accept, even if its not like by the Anglia stage in real life 47s were hauling IC trains anymore, but I already had the Heljan version so never bothered with it. I guess Im just thinking, £150 is a lot for basically a single coach, a very nice single coach dont get me wrong, but unless theres a whole stack of stuff coming that lets you put a decent set together thats consistent with how that train was run in real life, it feels like a big gamble just to assume. If theyd recently announced a 90 Greater Anglia/NXEA or a 47 Stratford, I might be more inclined to feel they think Eastern region stuff is something they are looking to provide for more.
  3. still looked a lot better than this one, maybe a future weathering livery option
  4. I know running into Reading wouldnt be at over 70mph, but they used to get regularly shown during the Reading Festival tv coverage during less than exciting bands sets travelling past sometimes with both cab doors open, and this was even in the 00s. but as much as opening doors add that little bit of extra detail,Im not fussed if they do drop them, Id make an exception for an 08, but especially as the more recent examples of doors seem to get stuck more often.
  5. I was intruiged though by OORails video that moving the capacitors, certainly into the gangway ends, appeared to upset the weight balance of the coaches enough as it put more pressure on to the bogie which led to some derailments. Im kind of minded to leave them where they are for the time being, until more running time experience is gained by people
  6. well Ive never been offered a cuppa by any shop Ive spent money in, and really its not what Im looking for from a model railway shop anyway, I remember my local retailer, since closed a while back and you can draw your own conclusions as to why it closed from this, but who you could never get near the cash desk to ask for help or query a product, or even order something, because it was always blocked by the owners friends who were just there hanging out to have a chinwag, maybe they provide a cuppa too for them I dont know, it put me off shopping there, so I didnt stay around and I ordered my stuff from Hattons instead, as I knew what I wanted, I can make my own tea, and Hattons always had what I wanted, were always willing to help, packed it well and I never had any issue with any of the stuff I bought from them. obviously I cant really use Hattons for Hornby stuff anymore, so I rely on others like Kernow who I currently have a 91 on order with. For the APT I had to order from Hornby direct, because nowhere else had any for sale by the time I committed to it, and Ive followed up with Hornby for some orders from the 2022 catalogue again simply for lack of availability elsewhere, and feeling a bit spooked by double price rises which felt a risk without guaranteed commitment to a price up front. but personally Id say buy from whoever best suits your circumstances, no one can tell you that you should only buy one way from one kind of shop. are Hornby doing the right thing by competing against retailers selling their products ? time will tell, but I dont blame them for recognising that bricks & mortar shops arent the absolute be all and end all thesedays at a time when you can go online and instantly deal with a company hundreds, if not thousands for the non UK based customers, miles away.
  7. Yes, I got the notification last night it would be Monday and knew full well it would end up being today as DPD seem to do that, not that im complaining. but still not convinced Hornby know how to package boxes still, heres this oversized box we'll put a slight smaller box wrapped in one layer of bubble wrap, hmm, still it seems to have survived as everything is in those trays like the coaches were within the main box, though my ndm tray is split slightly, maybe they were more enthusiastic pushing the bits in as its surrounded in its own plastic protective cover, not just the wrap, with bits of polystyrene to protect the pantograph and roof details. noticed theres an obvious moulding injection spigot on the the roof of one of the driving trailers, and a really tiny blemish on the nose of one, but not had chance for a more detailed look or pictures yet, sorry.
  8. but if these sets had turned up before Christmas, as was the expectation even as late as November, then the retailers wouldnt have been hit by the most recent price rises, and Hornby orders would be stuck with RRP. so I dont think this is as grandly conspiratorial as some might feel, its just a matter of timing of shipping thats been largely outside of Hornbys control for some while at the moment.
  9. But Disney and EON are well known in the business to protect their IP rights often to extreme levels, just as Im sure Warner would take an interest if you started churning out an inspired by magic wizarding express. whilst Studio Canal have been part of legal action to protect rights to films theyve acquired in the past, and Im sure they wouldnt let it just drop, as they could easily be counter sued then for not protecting their rights, but Im not sure they have as much of a bad reputation for a see you in court first approach, as the other major studios do.
  10. potentially its not a technical issue with the website as such, but perhaps intended behaviour ? maybe they are gating stock release, either to avoid fastest finger first nabbing everything or kind of filling future production runs up as the orders roll in. as I mean some of the stuff in the 2022 line we can be fairly confident wont be seen till 2023 at the earliest given they havent even show protypes of quite alot of it yet, so its unlikely to have been manufactured in any quantity yet plus with the backlog from 20 & 21 to cover, so controlling pre-orders like this almost guarantees Hornby get to fill their manufacturing slots with what the customers are demanding most of rather than over or under estimating.
  11. thats the curious thing to me, its a 70 year old movie, well 69 actually as it didnt come out till 1953, 'Ealing comedies' dont exactly get much of a run out in the local multiplexes or even reruns on tv anymore, and is probably only available in the bargain bin blu-ray/dvd section, what recognition is there for the Titfield Thunderbolt among the general population anymore ? . I can understand the appeal from a modellers aspect keen to have something that might fit in with their layout, as a quirky addition and done well its going to have appeal, and the name might mean more than the actual film did to most. but the average kid fed on a diet of superhero movies and wizards, are they really going to see this and ask for an ancient looking train set from a film thats really from their great grandparents era, that their parents have probably never watched either ? its not like its the train from Harry Potter, or Paddingtons cgi films, or even from a beloved classic childrens film like the Railway children which has an imminent remake, that they might have memories of watching again and again, its maybe not an obscure film, but its not a film alot of people have been watching alot of in this century put it that way is how Id describe it. so it just seems well unlikely that these sets are aimed at anything other than either fans of the film or model rail enthusiasts/collectors.
  12. but knowing whats on Hornbys mind reading the tea leaves sometimes feels like playing 4d chess with them, youd like to think their investment of money in a new tooling doesnt end in a one off run of something, but...you can never tell, so you commit to pre order which then convinces them if enough people do the same theres enough scope for a 2nd batch anyway. the obvious question is will the next batch come with less obvious capacitors though ?
  13. that was my feeling for why I thought FLIRTs were unlikely from Hornby,as Hornby have had the Mk3s, the DVTs and even an aborted 90 in AGA livery from 2016, ready to go, and yet have sat on them for years and done nothing with them. so what were the chances of them making brand new mouldings for a region they tend to overlook, because I was told many years back it never sells well, & for something that isnt what most model enthusiasts would consider a core national class, ie seen in their East Coast/West Coast/western regions, & a modern unit at that,it seemed well just not going to happen...especially as its that awkward consist of multiple unit rolling stock which makes it expensive as a pack, but you cant really break it down & sell it in pieces. I thought Bachmann were most likely to have a go as they have had a track record of modern units, and covered Anglia liveries in the past, even if they seem to be ignoring it with their class 90s so far, and we will have to see how far their 47s get. but when you think of all the lower risk Anglia models Hornby could have done just as an easy gimme something to keep interest going, maybe the reaction to things like the APT has given them the confidence to try something different for a change thats a bit more quirky, as its certainly interesting seeing peoples reactions who arent necessarily interested in modelling an Anglia setup at all, but still like the idea of including a FLIRT on their layouts, Im certainly not complaining
  14. I think the TOPS data panel is there, its just in the wrong place for this livery, it looks like its sitting in the white line...so yes which means its not a white line at all...just above the red stripe near the grills/louvres. Easier to see on the big logo blue version where it sits and then if you transpose it across in the same location you can see it. So have they just basically taken a render of the big logo blue, with its black window frames as well, and tried to stick some NSE on it as a quick rush job ? As it just looks weird and such an obvious set of mistakes to have made it cant be the production example surely ? and Id agree the blue looks wrong its almost metallic blue in spots, but I dont know how well NSE translates to 00 as Ive never been tempted to acquire anything with it on
  15. if it did run that way it escaped most photographers and most of its class mates, as the best I can find is the front window surrounds were sometimes still black, but the cab side window surrounds were very much white, including the cab door window too, plus the white stripe along the roof line. it just seems odd because Hornby obviously produced one of these in the correct early NSE livery not more than 6 years ago iirc, its still the same mould for the 50 isnt it ? it should have just been a simple renumber/renaming job but they seem to have redesigned the livery for this.
  16. I think Studio Canal are the bigger boy in all this and have entire departments of overpaid lawyers looking out for infringements on their commerical properties, its almost as lucrative as actually making new films for them, so Hornbys defence might well have to come down to the fact they frequently struggle to actually model alot of their products with complete accuracy anyway.
  17. it would be a 12 coach formation though, that could get expensive, let alone could it even run with a single power car... but I dont know, I never thought Id see anyone make any kind of FLIRT full stop, so to have both types of 755s, I might have to go take a lie down, or at least let my bank manager have one first, though Im guessing the Spring 2022 date is stupendously optimistic.
  18. increasingly beginning to think that only applies to the stuff Mr K is actually interested in. I was by no means a good kit builder or model painter, but even Id be disappointed if Id ended up with a model Id made & painted left with a finish like that. and as for the numbering, literally I goto flickr and search LNER farewell tour and there are loads of pictures, its only just a click away to confirm, how does that stuff get through ? and those photos highlight more issues with the silver surround on the light clusters, it should completely surround the lights, leaving the horn grate as a distinct structure, which also had 8 prominent silver bolts, 4 above, 4 below it.
  19. it was £50 wasnt it ? which is about 200 in todays money, I had a choice of an APT or a Lima HST, and I went for the HST as the HST was the train Id seen and ridden on and train spotted the most, and I thought Id never see an actual APT in real life, which turned out to be true in the end.
  20. I have to admit my first reaction to it was wow I wish theyd done the shutters too whilst accepting I bet it would be horrendously expensive and complicated to model in 00 gauge reliably. I mean next we'll be expecting automatic doors on multiple units to open, with appropriate sounds via the chip. But Ill get a Stratford silver roof version I reckon, assuming they do one.
  21. it means "sound effects" or "special effects" (as the "effects" sounds like FX) in the movie industry, I assume Bachmann are just reusing it in that context
  22. Flirts would be great, infact anything GEML would interest me, but Hornby have shown so little interest in the region over the years, even when they have existing toolings they could use, and these are not just modern traction but multiple units modern traction too, I just dont expect we'll ever see Hornby dip into those. I mean someone upthread mentioned Hornby doing a platinum jubilee special for the Queen to mark the anniversary, and its immediately expected to be a steam train 1950s style special pack, and not the Elizabeth line crossrail (which opens next year) Aventras instead. That to me tellls you where most people recognise Hornbys focus always is.
  23. though no doubt Ill be on the receiving end of a mangled box from Hornby when they send my order now Im saying this, but IME its not a Hermes thing necessarily, its down to the individuals they employ, some are good, and Im fortunate my local Hermes deliverer of boxes isnt remotely the kind who would throw stuff against a wall, and some are obviously not so good, no denying that, and it could be that Hermes contracts attracts more of the not so good than the good. but over the years Id say (touch wood) Ive had very few problems with Hermes, now FedEx on the other hand, I had a package last year that had to be resent 3 times by the supplier because FedEx kept "breaking" it in transit, and not only that I had to report the breakages back to the supplier, because FedEx were just ignoring doing anything about it, now once might have been misfortune, twice carelessness, but 3 times ??? and the 3rd time whilst it actually arrived intact, woohoo, but it had actually been repacked into a different box by FedEx, ie theyd opened my parcel, and helpfully packed it badly into a new box, because it still had the original address label on it hidden under their branded tape that was to their depot. and Ive heard near identical tales to mine from other people with FedEx, to the point I wont order anything from a supplier who deals with them anymore.
  24. albeit a well known movie franchise are quite hot on stepping in to stop other companies using the double 0 7 nomenclature in any context on products they sell, so that might have been intentional.
