  1. I have a few books on the central Wales line, which show mk1s and ex LMS stock, with what I assume is ex GW. As someone who has been predominantly interested in diesel traction, my steam era knowledge is very limited, learning is all part of the fun. I hope to try my hand at building a steam locomotive kit over Christmas, and I'm starting small with a craftsman 1f kit, a which a few we're allocated to Swansea Paxton Street shed in the early 1950s. I have many unbuilt kitmaster mk1s to construct but nothing from the pre-nationisation era coaching stock wise.
  2. Both, I find the overlap with nationalisation and change of region interesting, plus it allows a bit of variety of stock and infrastructure, although I doubt much changed in reality.
  3. Can I ask, which are the best books on lms and great western coaches? I know nothing about them and I would like to learn more to aid me, working out what types of coaches were used on the central Wales line.
  4. I'm not in a major rush, just wondering really.
  5. I looked on his website for the closing date but cannot find it, I assume that it is Friday the 22nd, does anyone know for sure?
  6. The Dellner (I think I have the name right) coupling is the thing sticking out of the cab front. I'm not sure if these can be bought separately.
  7. I don't think there is any difference between the 57/3 and 57/6, but if your chosen locomotives have the Dellner couplings you'll need to source some.
  8. Have a look at the Bachmann spares website, they might have some bits you can use.
  9. Shawplan do have a class 57/6 kit, or certainly produced one at some point.
  10. Thanks, I have two silver fox models body shells, the valance are thin resin and one has been broken so I figure that if I overlay them to strengthen them it would help.
  11. Does anyone have any of those lying around, that they no longer need?
  12. I wasn't going to copy anything, I was hoping to find some more info on the line tbh.
  13. I quite agree, I'm more interested in the Swansea end, but the whole line is very model able.
  14. I'm the Swansea vale railway book, there are a few pictures of them hauling wagons on the "mainline"
  15. I suppose that I should have qualified the question by stating that, on the high level kits website it states that 3mm axles are not a common size, which is why I ask about what the market is more set up for.
  16. Can anyone help me with this question about axles please?
  17. Thank you, I have ordered one this weekend as it happens.
  18. Thank you, I suppose I could file an amount from the underside of the running plate.
  19. Can I ask the great and the good on here a few questions, please? After much deliberating I have settled on a layout based on the Swansea end of the central Wales line should I ever find the time to build one. I have been picking up various kits both unbuilt and built but needing work, the first loco I want to sort out is a k's lnwr coal tank. It has an old white metal chassis with what I assume are k's wheels and motor, because I am thinking about building to em gauge, my thoughts are to replace the whole chassis for a London Road models chassis with markits wheels and new motor and gearbox. Has anyone used this body and chassis combination? If so what problems should I look out for? Also, looking in the markits catalogue I cannot understand what diameter the axles are, 3mm or 1/8". Do they make both, is one size best to buy because the market is set up for it? Very confusing.
  20. It surprises me also, my interest is more the urbanised Swansea end (I live here and hailing from Huddersfield, I find the midland and lnwr elements appealing) but the line offers a lot of potential, obviously before the 1970's. I have been buying various kits both unbuilt and built but needing work as a way of obtaining stock but not breaking the bank.
  21. I should imagine that the kestrel diesel, is a silver fox models body kit on lima class 47 bogies/motor.
