  1. That’s pretty much what Mercedes have done the last couple of seasons, and look where it’s got ‘em.
  2. No, you’re thinking of Finland, which was made up to keep Japan’s fishing grounds north of the Baltic a secret.
  3. Sargeant has intimated that the coming together with Bottas was Bottas’s fault because he failed to avoid Sargeant’s mistake! 🤪
  4. Did anyone see the announcement that the stewards admitted they got it wrong in Singapore, and Verstappen should have been given a grid penalty for impeding in qually, not a reprimand? Tell us something we didn’t know...
  5. There is also a story that Williams may be after Lawson to replace Sargeant, or even Albon, who is being linked with other teams. Mind you, I’m not sure where Albon could go, unless it’s to McLaren to replace Norris, who could be off to Red Bull, leaving Perez wanting a new seat.
  6. Great idea. Metro and Maestro were really popular in their day, and although modelled at the time (Corgi, Scalextric) they haven’t had much love since, at least until Oxford’s 1/76 versions. If nothing else, I’d love to get hold of Datapost & McCain’s racing Metros in 1/43.
  7. I haven’t enjoyed a qualifying session that much for quite a while. 😄 As for Red Bull possibly being compromised by the technical directive clamping down on flexible aero parts, we’ll only know when we get to the next track or two. It’s unlikely it would have hurt them that much, but they did win in Singapore last year, despite the same compromises of the car being designed for all circuits and Marina Bay being a unique type of track.
  8. As an aside, there’s a Bond Bug a few streets away from me, regularly parked on the road and still in use. Elsewhere in the same town there’s a Reliant 3-wheeler hot rod, complete with roof-mounted rear wing.
  9. Bond Bug will be great if I ever get around to my much dreamed about 1970s-set railway.
  10. According to the BBC website, the Red Bulls weren’t looking quickest on long run pace either during practice, with Alonso being the most impressive. It may all change by race day though.
  11. A man walked into a bar. He said “ow!” It was an iron bar.
  12. Depends which station you’re listening to.
  13. Thanks for posting that. I remember watching that season, and the Indy 500, back in the period when Eurosport showed every Indy race live. Great times, and such a dominant performance.
  14. I tend to agree. Also, if Oxford really want to do the hotted up Cortina, why can’t they make the spoiler etc as separate parts that they can add to the relevant release, then they can also sell the vanilla cars, probably in much greater numbers than the silly boy-racer version. Taking myself as a sample size of one, I would not buy a Cortina with the ridiculous add-on bits, but I would buy at least one of each colour of any standard-looking cars they chose to release.
  15. Well, qually was interesting. If the predicted rain arrives today, the race might be worth watching too.
  16. Thanks, useful info. I see the IMSA race is live on Viaplay Xtra channel; they’d been showing the season until recently, but the scheduled coverage disappeared without trace. The most recent couple of races weren’t shown at all, but now it’s back (subject to any last-minute changes of schedule).
  17. Oh to be so rich that you can afford to employ a man simply to baste turkeys.
  18. I suppose it’s the difference between what happened in Brazil (which was a fair fight) and what happened in Singapore (which was manipulated by what security agencies now refer to as a bad actor - and no, I’m not referring to Sylvester Stallone).
  19. It’s not the years, it’s the mileage.
  20. Well, ol’ Bernie Ecclescake is fast approaching his 93rd birthday...
  21. Shamelessly copied from Tim Brooke-Taylor, by way of Sandi Toksvig: I’ve got a frog in the throat. Well, it’s better than a toad in the hole.
  22. Did you hear about the frog who parked on double yellow lines? He got toad away.
  23. q. When is a train not a train? a. When it turns into a siding.
  24. Personally, I’m sick and tired of ‘sprint’ races. What a pointless exercise.
  25. What was it called? Ah, yes: Drivel.
