  1. Yeah, it’s quite difficult to attach a scrutineer and his measuring tools to an F1 car moving at speed!
  2. Not a joke, but some years ago, after a misunderstanding at work, a rather special young lady drew me a picture of a dinosaur called a Thesaurus. Aah, she was lovely (the young lady, not the dinosaur!).
  3. I watched the Le Mans 24 Hours on Eurosport. Proper motor racing, even though the winning team was never in any real doubt.
  4. Is it an accepted fact that this is actually the jokes thread?
  5. I have to ask, what the hell happened to Schumacher’s Haas? No way an accident like that, into a ‘soft’ barrier, should have snapped the thing in half like it was made of dry spaghetti.
  6. Had a leaflet through the door today saying that Oxfam can supply a whole African village with water for £3 a month. With my water bill going up all the time, I think it might be time to change supplier...
  7. After last year’s championship being decided by the race director, and so far this year more strange decisions by the RD, plus jewellerygate, if Monaco disappears from the calendar I’m going too. With the WEC going from strength to strength, and manufacturers falling over each other in their rush to join in, I don’t think I’ll miss F1 as much as I would have even five years ago.
  8. I think anyone who saw the incident could have told Kevin that!
  9. As some of the smaller teams have pointed out, if the budget cap is increased it would disadvantage them. They may have a budget that is actually less than the max allowed under the budget cap, and have cut their cloth accordingly, whereas the bigger teams could and would spend the max allowed, so were the cap increased they would be able to continue spending, whereas the smaller teams may not have any additional funds to spend.
  10. Have you heard about the fitness tracker, for the wrist, designed for the, ahem, larger person? It’s called Fatbat.
  11. Hmm, not sure about that. Sounded more like the engine wasn’t revving properly, even outside of the DRS zones.
  12. Re: Alonso's complaint, it does seem he has a point, but under the current system there appears little recourse for a team that's on the receiving end of a dubious in-race penalty.
  13. I think 20 races is sufficient. F1 is chasing the money from venues, at the expense of the ‘event’ status that’s felt when there are fewer races per season.
  14. I call my ‘work wife’ (manager with whom I get on well) Boss. I even gave her a mug with ‘The Boss’ on, which she loved.
  15. I sometimes call mine ‘fat cow’ to her face, and survive! She just laughs because she knows it’s not true.
  16. Goodness only knows why. On the rare occasions I’ve watched Sky’s F1 coverage (like when they put it on one of their other channels that I can get) I’ve thought it quite dreadful, not comparable at all to C4’s, which seems to have a greatly superior presenting and commentary team, plus the delightful Lee McKenzie ❤️.
  17. I’ve got nothing against Verstappen wanting to be a win machine, it’s his hypocrisy and lack of sportsmanship I dislike. As for the Miami GP, it was so terminally dull I had more enjoyment watching the World Endurance Championship being rained off at Spa. Even the red flagged periods were more exciting than yesterday’s snooze-fest.
  18. I watched the first W Series race this morning, followed by F1 qually. The track has some quite interesting areas that will hopefully promote good racing and punish the careless or aggressive drivers, but it looks absolutely dreadful, like something out of Grand Theft Auto or similar video games. This is obviously the audience Liberty Media are focussing on now, instead of the core market of motorsport enthusiasts.
  19. Joking aside, I’ve been saying for some time that Verstappen is a great driver, but a poor racing driver. He has very little in the way of racecraft compared to drivers such as Hamilton, Alonso, Ricciardo etc.
  20. Great to see the Mercs running in the top group again, and encouraging signs for Williams too (or at least for Albon).
  21. We know that from the number of times he’s gone barrelling into a chicane alongside a rival, giving them a straight choice between throwing themselves out of the way or being crashed into.
  22. Ground effect doesn’t work very well if you hang a socking great flat-12 engine in the way of the venturi either!
  23. Daddy wouldn’t buy me a bow-wow.
  24. According to (IIRC) Doug Nye's amazing History of the Grand Prix Car (vol 2), when Porsche rocked up at Footwork with a life-sized blueprint of the proposed engine, the Footwork boys assumed it had been printed at larger than life size!
