  1. I have built the office for the weighbridge at Llanfyllin, I was wondering (as this office is near the front of the layout), what would the scales inside look like, I would assume a long Bar type of scales, any ideas what colours, I believe Avery Scales are mainly red, but, not sure if they did weighbridges
  2. Painting trees on a back scene, Bob Ross I'm not!

    1. BlackRat

      BlackRat

Dont forget, even a tree has to have a friend! ;)

  3. I am building a P4 model based on Llanfyllin in Mid Wales. I say based as I have compressed the track plan to fit on a 12ft baseboard. I currently have track laid on two baseboards, the platforms and station building almost finished. The Signal Box has also been built. I am currently working on a weighbridge, its office and a coal office. I am working from photos of which there are plenty though I still find new ones. If you wish to view the work in progress, search for Llanfyllin.
  4. Whwn I was in the mob it was known as either "Pussers Grey or Battleship Grey" and is a very light grey colour
  5. Is that the recent Hornby B Set or the old Airfix ones?
  6. Looking really good, the station building looks brilliant, I like the work you've done on the inside
  7. Mayshill, Would that be anything to do with a hill near Newent in Glos, as far as I remember sort of dome shaped with a clump of trees on the top
  8. Thanks Nick that is seriously important information, I think I shall have one pre-war and one Post (and never the twain shall meet)
  9. Thanks I have found this on Amazon. The photos of 5806 and 5816 which I have are all post war and they have a top feed, I would like to find out what they looked like pre war, hopefully this book may give me a clue
  10. Hi I am building the Llanfyllin Branch, which used 58xx, mainly 5806 and 5816. I am converting a Hornby and a Dapol (same really) 14xx into these two locos, which I have converted to P4 using the Ultrascale conversion pack. I don't seem to be able to find many photos of 58xx, I have the llanfyllin issue of GWRJ and Russells Locos, but there are few clear photos. How different are they from the 48xx/14xx, just remove the autotrain equipment? Are there any further photograph options? Thanks
  11. A Toy! A toy, its a GWR BLT, not a toy, it is a piece of history, a slice of nostalgia, a model of superior engineering. What I mean is it is yours to build and play with! Have fun, you have overtaken my layout already, I have only laid half the track and am now building a loco and wagons to test it with. Happy New Year
  12. Thanks, this is the problem I have had trouble understanding. I read on a previous thread(RMWEB Mk3 version 2 build 3 ) that locos have a bar at either end. Which as far as I was concerned made running round a train impossible, you could push but, not pull. The reply about the bar at each end was a reply to a question of how do you fit a S & W hook under a loco, there does not seem to be enough room. If I had a hook at each end of all other rolling stock and kept coaches in rakes with hook at either end then Running round and shunting would be possible. You know I quite liked the 3 link coupling on my last layout, it was quite simple to fit and the only downside was seeing the end of the shunters pole and not derailing all the stock when uncoupling. I must move on though as on this layout I will not be able to easily reach to uncouple. Do you have a photo of a hook fitted to a GWR Loco? I shall be using 14XX 74XX, 22XX and Dean Goods primarily.
  13. If the loco has a bar at each end, How do you manage shunting? If the loco pulls a train into a terminus, it then runs round the goods wagons. The loco can then push wagons, but, cannot pull the brake van off the train or remove the train after unloading.? Or am I missing something extremely fundamental here???
  14. From RMWEB mkIV version2 para ii I have done very little. Tracklaying has finished for the moment, I have connected all the droppers, (2 per piece of rail, so there are shedloads) to the main Bus and have tested continuity, That is working OK, am waiting for P4 wheels from Ultrascale to rewheel my pannier. 45xx has been rewheeled, but, am trying to change coupling rods, to look more prototypical so this is not running. The other big job with the track is to fit point actuators under the baseboard and connect them to Fulgerex motors This is really just a test of how the blog works, my, have I had snags with that, but, I'm here now. My PC at work does not understand blogs, its an old curmudgeonly thing, but, thats the NHS for you
