  1. Hi Rob, all my wagon roofs start out light grey and are then weathered with dirty grey streaks. I was asking about the colour of the ventilators, are they the same colour as the roof, or dependant on oil or gas lighting, will they be darker
  2. Painting the Parkside Dundas Horsebox. Have a dirty grey roof, what colours are the roof ventilators? Looked at example in RM Dec 2010, but, cant really see them. Will they be the same colour as roof?
  3. That looks like it could be a good layout planning tool, clever stuff too.
  4. Some might say you have too much time on your hands, but I think this is a refreshing idea to show some people not to take the hobby so seriously. I would love to see this if you exhibit in the North West.
  5. Both Ridge Tiles and Tiles look good. Were the Ridge tiles from aforesaid Topps Trains? How were the tiles modelled?
  6. I have used the same looping method for my trees, however I used, some multi stranded cable I bought from B & Q
  7. Thats Nothing Simon, I dropped my SLR Camera onto the Cattle Dock on Llanfyllin, wiping out most of the scratchbuilt Dock and a P4 Cattle Wagon which was posing alongside it. Made me think about how I now take photos at exhibitions. I love this layout, very good modelling and a refreshing subject. Static grass is an amazing addition to our hobby isn't it

Leave it up long enough and you won't need to update it this year!

Happy New Year! (It's chilly enough here in Cornwall today for that to still feel relevant.) :-(

  11. I love this Nick, I lived just outside Newent until 1970, I can vaguely remember seeing a 48xx pulling a train whilst I was in an ambulance travelling from Ledbury to hereford after my tonil operation went badly wrong. As Army cadets in the late 60's we used to patrol the station area in Newent and also the disused railway track. I was part of a Bren Gun Team, others would be armed with 303 and SMG. I cannot imagine 12 - 13 year old boys being allowed on the streets now with proper rifles (albeit no ammo) training to to defend a disused railway station
  12. I am sure I have seen a layout with a flying barrage balloon, it may be "Overload" (or my imagination) I look forward to seeing how you get on as that will be an interesting sight.
  13. I realise this is an old thread, buy, I am trying to mount the motor in my 14xx comet chassis. the motor fits between the frames nicely and I tried using sticky fixers, (cut in halfnd stuck together), but, I think it is floating too much. The gearbox and motor assembly are mounted around an axle, but occasionly it must "float" too much an I get a squeaking noise. (which I assume is the worm and gear not meshing properly) if i push the motor down this is cured Any other ideas how I can stop this?
  14. Nice looking Locos, I love the 48xx, I am just building another 58xx for my layout, I am interested how you created the hooks on the back for the fire iron? I have made some using flattened .45 mm brass wire, but, could not get a uniform shape as you have.
  15. Cracking piece of modelling John, I think the final Black & white photo shows a very busy depot

Merry Xmas to you too, IKB!

  17. Hi, I have never seem these, I currently use the same colours in Acrylic medium for painting scenery. Must look in Local art shops or Range to explore this medium more.
  18. Popped in today to get a few odds and sods, some Evergreen strip and ended up with a selection of woodlands scenics to make a start on my allotments. Was asked behind the counter to select the plastic strips I needed, always a friendly welcome and spend far too long browsing, (should be in work around the corner) looking for the elusive 1930's motor vehicle to put on the model or just dreaming about the models on display
  19. Was hoping to be able to pop down for this, I was thinking of bringing a couple of the buildings from Llanfyllin, BUT, I have now been invited to attend a Fly Fishing Course with Fishing for Heroes, so unfortunately I will not be attending. Maybe next year
  20. I agree about the shots with the added backgrounds I particularly love the second to last and the shot of the bridge with the cider factory in the background, but the bestest is the photo showing the layout from a position above the station. Very clever photo manipulation. To be truthful the ones I saw in the magazine I thought had been taken outside and that was a natural background
  21. A gorgeous model, with loads of atmosphere, I saw it in Hornby Mag (in fact the reason why I bought it. I lived just outside Newent until 1970 and one of my memories of Steam was being taken in an ambulance from Ledbury Cottage Hospital to Hereford after my tonsillectomy went wrong and seeing a 14xx (or pannier) pulling a train on an embankment alongside the road. I was in the Army Cadets in Newent and we used to patrol the disused station area armed to the teeth, I used to be the loader for the Bren Gun. (can't imagine young lads in Army Uniform being able to patrol around town now with real guns).
  22. I have a book called Bostin' Fittle. This contains all sorts of interesting recipes, including from the Pig, Faggots, Chitterlings and Boney Pie. Rook Pie, Tomato Toast, Gray pays and Grorty Pudding. Some cracking cakes and puddings Lardy Cake, Crumpets and Pikelets
  23. I have to agree about the canal, even today coming down into Birmingham from ooop North there are views a plenty of narrow canals
  24. I have put a lot of photos in my layout entry and have only just discovered I had a Blog. I am currently finishing converting a Ratio Toad to P4 and finishing a "Pocket Money" Etched Brass Toad. I have to start building the Goods Shed which I have said I would enter in the 2012 challenge and I want to start work on the scenery on the second board. Photos to follow
