  1. Some progress today - albeit 'non railway', woodwork stuff.. In order not to frighten small childen when we take the layout Warley it's been decided that we need a display panel to hide unsightly operators and also the right-hand fiddleyard. The concept is that the design of the display panel mirrors the 'letter box' framing style of the main layout and will be painted to match - if I can find the original paint!! Here's how far i've got, its not hinged together yet, just propped up for the Photo. It will sit to the right hand side of the layout below.
  2. Those hand rails have stories to tell.... Told best by others.......
  3. Sorry for the 'radio silence', i've been on a small trek into deep Europe. Remember this John? No?
  4. It's The Edinburgh Malt 'Glenkinchie', a 16 year old single malt, and it's smooth as silk Some jobs need something to steady the hand, others would include threading chairs onto rails, painting rails and painting sleepers. Luckily the Pipes on the loco don't look too bad this morning, although I only got one end done as I went beyond the steady hand stage in the end - if you know what I mean....
  5. Tonights job, Pipes. I wonder what they will look like in the morning?????
  6. Yeah your right. However this is the order the names appear on the signature tune on the album. - Strange Stranger still is they appear in the film in a different order still; The Ugly, The Bad and finally The Good. I'm sure that nice Mr Gingo can explain all. Didn't get too much done today, it starting raining so I had to pack up and go down the pub to keep dry. Still, it gave me time to think about the next layout
  7. No No No. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly - I don't think it's fixed who's who!! I think it rotates, probably depending on what happened the night before..... Anyway i'm doing some work today, building a new display panel. It's not going that well though - in fact i'm avoiding the issue by typing this. The garage/workshop is full of assembled layout so I have to work outside on the trailer! Further, my circular saw is broken so I have to cut everything by hand and finish with a plane. Still, the pub opens soon
  8. Found this shot of 'IL BUONO, IL CATTIVO & IL BRUTTO' outside that pub. I'm sure it was called Admiral Rodney though.........
  9. Well its the 'Splat splat splat splat' of a 50 engine that really does it for me. In fact if it was legal I would marry that sound on the bank out of Exeter..... Sooo, have Murican things always been 2 stroke? I'm worried now i'm buying these locos for 'Owd Grinders' murican project (once upon a time in the west) and they all sound like washing machines? I feal a few nighmares coming on tonight.....
  10. Shades of Laira Blue 50's? Click on link http://railwayherald.org/imaging.centre/showimage.php?image=209563&gallery=X4&raildiary=2011-10-04 This is not my picture, but I have spotted this loco parked at Doncaster for the last few days but not been able to get a shot of it. There is also a very good shot on therailwaycentre.com - todays pic of the day (07 October 2011) It struck me that the livery resembled laira blue as applied to the Engineers 50's in the DCWA pool in the early nineties and it warranted a second look. Don't get me wrong though, I will never bring myself to like these modern machines - they sound like washing machines on fast spin to me.
  11. Nice one - thanks for the offer Darren, maybe next time although, currently, we dont have an 'excuse' to come down to the south west next year. boo hoo
  12. Progress You may be wondering what we got done at the weekend??????? We ate a cake!! It was my Birthday - I'm 26!! Yes yes I know - but I had a hard paper round......
  13. Yes! Next show is Warley. This weekend were going to have a heavy session........... We're are also hoping to do some work on the layout and get through some of that 40 item snagging list.
  14. Chris, I'd like to say, great pictures, but...... Next time you take some pictures can you shout 'hold your stomach's in chaps' first!!
  15. Hey nice Mr spams Fancy posting those there layout pic's you took from Trura show?? I didn't really take any (as usual), so would be appreciated DJ
  16. Thanks for all the info guys. I'm coming to the conclusion that you learn more about your subject once you've modelled it and put it out there for debate... Brilliant!
  17. Interesting. I have a few 'HEA's that i've been using for this traffic, seen below on the fiddle; I understand they were used for coal in one direction and the seaweed for the return?
  18. Peter, What a fabulous picture - and engine! One thing that always puzzled me when she was in this state, was the black around the windows. Had it worn through the white or been painted on? No modelling again today, see below....
  19. Wey Hey! 50 046, my other favourite, and the name of my other cat - AJAX She should have been preserved......... Well, I guess a lot of her was, just not all in one piece......
  20. Now it's 50 026, my favouite 50, the first one I remember seeing.....
  21. Thanks!! 50k I can't believe it really, thanks for all the interest, In fact its now 50 021 - Rodney - the name of one of my two cats.!!
  22. All the more reason to preserve her in my little world that is BZ.
  23. Toton! Whoops. I've always been very interested in these plaques but never bottomed out how many there were. I've got the BR design manuals for the time but this gives no clue, just showing 'typicals'. There is also a display of them on the wall in the NRM, but only a selection. Is there a definative list somewhere?
