  1. your power bogie is back to front... at least the side frame any way. Looks most impressive, I will be interested but I am a bit strapped for cash a the mo (as usual). As to pickups, I replaced my Lima bogies with Hornbys variety, as you say the difference is remarkable.
  2. I know the feeling, I've been trying to get a decent honest blue 31 for three years now. Even some of the supposedly good 2nd batch ones you see have had their chassis changed for earlier dodgy ones, often without the knowledge of the previous owner ~it was the chassis fairy, honest~
  3. Thanks for that, I was not sure. I suppose a non cowled version could be made to fit the cowls? with the aid a of a file if neccessary? its just that I bought a basket case 270 cheap in the vain hope of getting a new block (long term project - very long term project) Speaking of such, does anyone have a spare pair of cowls they dont need, colour unimportant, the bufferbeams from my 31 werent included in the bag of parts.
  4. I thought the buffer beam cowls were just stuck on? arent all the basic castings the same?
  5. while I agree that the gearing is to low on the Lima 20, I feel that 30:1 on the initial gearing maybe a tad high. Wouldnt conversion of the two start worm to a single start give you 14:1 and halving the speed? you could also use the same worm wheel and save a bit on the machining cost.
  6. It is a great photo. Least I now know the water filler hatch is round (front half anyway). Was it a usual occurrence for these to be left open while on the move? Also blue tops data panel
  7. Ultrascale have said the following So, looks like the wont even be tempted to make a P4 wheel for it. A post on Scalefour forum suggests using Alan Gibson 3' L&Y Pug wheels on 3mm axles. Seems to work but the outside frames will need to be taken off and gluing further out, maybe a bit shaved off the back as well.
  8. I've seen steam locos called many things but a "smoke box"? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oo-dcc-fitted-smoke-box-/171165853704?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item27da47a808 Smokes good!!...?
  9. Father Jack Hackett out of off of Father Ted "he could have been pope y'know"
  10. Cheapest on Ebay! £35. c'mon really, the 5 pole models might get that but the used old variety rarely gets above £25. £20 being the norm for unboxed used http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OO-gauge-Hornby-R068-class-25-in-BR-blue-25247-Cheapest-on-ebay-Free-postage-/221301022101 Then goes on to say Used condition, untested , no box ~ even though the picture shows a nice model and a clean box Edit: Subtype: Steam
  11. On ebays newish "My feed" front page the images generate a mouseover watch link, so you dont have to actually view the page if it looks like something you might want
  12. seems to be a placeholder, he prices everything at the same price so he can fill in the blanks later. I've seen this a few times, peeps taking advantage of free listing weekends Edit: and now its a Lima Police Class 37 for £60 more
  13. "has no b o" - it doesnt smell, its only his listing that smells bad a bad photo of a Hornby Class 47 described as an Intercity Class 56, that is a good runner but doesnt have brushes or brush springs - therefore cannot run? mind boggling
  14. some people would charge that for the box!
  15. another decimal point disaster, you would think he would notice when the ebay fees are calculated. Dont you have to pay a percentage upfront for a buy-it-now? not sure what the % is for £5900
  16. Thank you haven't laughed so hard in ages. Free postage though... tempting...
  17. sounds like he dost protest too much Closing line says "Please note that this model will not be sold for less than £250.00" so, must assume he reneged on the original deal. other than that, so long as it was sent Royal Mail insured for its proper value and packed properly he wouldn't of had a problem claiming for the damage - dont expect anything from Hermes or collect+ and the new listing has already been taken down. what a surprise
  18. Sometimes words fail me http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400495529593 Just because its blue doesn't make it "Electric Blue" or "Highly sort after" or "Rare" also badly fitting HUGE leds does not enhance somethings value nor should you call it original or excellent condition This one seems to have the same problem but a little more grip on reality, to paraphrase Oliver Hardy "a little research goes a loooong way" http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221271581579
  19. at £2.60 real cost of postage (without packaging) and before final value and paypal fees he is actually paying to get that out the door
  20. As the seller says, if he asks for compensation for a lost item from RM he will only get his cost price for it - if the buyer claims he will get refunded the cost at auction end, there is a special box for ebay auction numbers so they can verify. It is really up to you, if the seller is a nice guy and you feel like helping out (after he has provided proof of postage) then fair enough, fill in the claim yourself. If he isnt and starts procrastinating then get ebays complaints dept in there as soon as possible. Personally though, I steer clear of people who put these sort of condition on their listings in bold italics, also a seller that claims he has "a number of lost items recently" - just plain no - the two main reasons why parcels dont get where they are going - badly wrapped - wrongly addressed
  21. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400534141922 A bit over the top edit. price now modified by moving decimal point 2 to the left
  22. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-R337-BR-CLASS-29-DIESEL-FOR-3-RAIL-DUBLO-RUNNING-IN-ITS-ORIGINAL-BOX-/130957110905 "All in all a nice rare loco try and find another like this you wont." Yoda has started selling butchered class 29s with a 3 rail HyMek bogie for unrealistic prices, he wants £50 for the Western in the background which also features a Bo HyMek bogie, wrong on so many levels, nice
  23. Yes Yes, they have factory's in the valleys where they whittle Hornby Class 5 replicas out of the raw black gold, all for £7.50... *sarcasm sarcasm aside, I suppose they are using carbon instead of talc as a filler - so, sort of coal-ish
  24. Wouldn't advise that, the fumes coming off all that resin might be poisonous
  25. If he isn't he should be blocked by paypal or doesn't want to give out his home address till he gets the right amount
