  1. One of the best photos of 6123. Details here https://www.railscot.co.uk/img/32/588/
  2. Anyone else seen this nonsense - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132372067143 Highlights: "Chassis has been shortened (cut back) at both ends by a previous owner" and "without any other fault that I can see" - well, I can see that the mid section is completely rotten from all the cracking and if the ends were "cut back" before they fell off by themselves I would be very surprised £30 for a 2nd hand motor and some screws? no
  3. pardon my ignorance, who else is making a class 29?
  4. afaik the Baby Deltic bogies were not reused, while basically the same the cross members and equalising beams were drilled with bigger holes to aid in weight reduction. Three basic types of equalising beams were fitted to the Class 20 depending on batch. Very generally Pilot scheme locos had a flat type with no fluting, production models were fitted with the I beam fluted type and later production with headcode box locos were fitted with the fluted / stress relieving holed variety. As the locos went through the workshops for overhaul they seem to have been split from their bogies which were overhauled separately, put in a parts pool and freely replaced on any member of the class as required. As always its best to work from a photo. Bachmann to their credit do list spare part numbers for each bogie type, might be worth contacting them if you want one/two of the other type? they are not to difficult to change
  5. Anyone else spotted the deliberate mistake? and dont get me started on "Ultrascale" prices and lead time.
  6. Conquest and Cossack were both withdrawn in Green syp and the whole class were fitted with the same style of headcode box
  7. I would use plaster of Paris to fill and stick to the board
  8. RARE! weathered Edition? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/112597569735 amazing what people think is rare. Are these really fetching £30 now? At least it doesnt have a "L@@k!"
  9. Today I get to write off UkMail as business I will ever deal with again. Useless timewasting liars. Next time I have something to send I will employ two teenagers to kick it around the street and then dumping in a bin - the same effect and probably cheaper

OK. there are a couple of nutters working a project of interest involving a Mini well worth a watching.

Which reminds me: a private narrow gauge railway in mid Wales I go to every year has a diesel loco fitted with an engine from a Mini.

  12. Hornby, for many-many years offered a like for like replacement and then store credit when Class 31s weren't available. Bachmann have also had their own run in with zinc pest, particularly in the Class 42. New Class 31 chassis blocks were available last year but quickly sold out, those produced were only for the de-cowled refurbished models
  13. Missed it this year. Standards of advertising both local and in national model railway press was very poor.
  14. Quartering is a bit out....
  15. I have some original brass gears which are 8 tooth, I think they came in a 9 tooth flavour aswell Bought some of these recently, they have moulded on guide ring which you have to cut off but at 99p for 30 is a bargain http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/V12003-30Pcs-0-5-Modulus-8-Teeth-Plastic-Gear-Cog-for-2mm-Toy-Car-Motor-Shaft/282336554755
  16. ebay is running a half price deal on Royal Mail Medium parcels 2-5 Kg 45x60x60 at the moment. available through their own label printing system.
  17. y'know I thought exactly the same thing... till you look at the bogie configuration which doesnt have the trailing pony truck and the gearing is different aswell. so, maybe the old man in the model shop wasnt telling porkies... apart from nonsense about the sixties and Hong Kong being in Japan

We had a living Christmas tree last year and planted it in the garden after Christmas - it might be too big to bring back in this Christmas!

Middle of an unusually warm summer for the uk, time to buy a christmas tree!! :D

  19. Looks good Andy, can we have a look at the underneath and see if its P4'able. Also the motor - looks like the same unit as the Heljan 15/16/17 and railbus type, please tell me it isnt...
  20. so, after two months someone other than my wife has noticed I have shaved my beard off

  21. I too would be interested in at least one set - how much are we talking about
  22. you cant do that with the class 31/37 or Hymek unit. The insulated brush spring pushes the brush directly onto the copper pick-up bus which extends into the brush holder. doing that will just cause a short. you cant do that without removing the magnet from the pole pieces, the armature is also in the way. the pole pieces are keyed into the side frames at the base and are held apart and in position by using the magnet as a sort of "keystone". so, in short this motor cant be serviced or dismantled because the magnet will de-magnetise, even though its obviously been apart before because some "lucky" expert put the magnet back in the wrong way round and probably took longer than 3 seconds doing it. When servicing these you either didnt dismantle the motor properly or if you did you re-magnetised the magnet every-time? did you bother to test before dismantling? maybe they were already de-magnetised? is that possible? isnt that more likely? how do you witness a magnet de-magnetising on a bench? on a non-working motor how do you measure a motors field magnet while its still in the motor? how do you then measure it against the field after you remove it from the motor? I feel I'm wasting my time here.
  23. Sorry, but the three seconds it takes to turn a magnet around will not demagnetise it, even slightly. Although I do agree with your neodymium suggestion for the reasons you state
