Thanks to Steve, I have managed to make a KMS Railtech exclusive Heljan 0 gauge GBRf class 50 even more exclusive. The decals are superb, as are the 3D nameplates. Many thanks Steve

Modern image Re-painting, Detailing and Weathering thread.
JohnC replied to Andy7's topic in Modifying & Detailing RTR stock
Totally agree with what you say Andy as have done both 66 and 57 myself. Easiest was the sunshine light upgrade on Hattons 66. One problem I did encounter with the Bachmann 66 locos was that, depending on age of loco, the PCBs do vary quite a lot so there was a bit of head scratching to address the variations for soldering the connections to correct outputs on PCB. Worth the effort though. John -

Thank you for info Jim. Tried one myself and quite pleased. Have another 5 spare BDAs so might do them also. -

Totally agree and you can see that by the examples you got with your Dapol and Accurascale wagons! I have added Goodwood Scenics Rolled steel loads to my Cavalex wagons and they are superb!!

A quick aerial shot of my 3 KMS Railtech Cavalex BLA wagons behind Hattons 66 66079. The steel coils are by Goodwood Scenics and really pleased with my first purchase from them.

I have just updated the speakers in my HNRC pair and what a difference in sound quality. I followed the advice of Richard on Roads and Rails and fitted two mini mega base speakers in each loco (Richard demonstrates fitting on YouTube). if you want to hear result, I have posted a couple of clips on Instagram (johnclark568) John

I will reserve judgement on the 47 until I see the final product in the flesh. At least I am sure that I will be able to both super detail the buffer beam as well as add snowploughs where relevant! also, the power of the current model far exceeds any other model 47 and even though people say it is a bit “tubby” I prefer my Heljan models to the older Bachmann ones I have.

Have now picked up my 6 exclusive KMS EWS models (3x BLA and 3 x BBA) and they are superb. just awaiting delivery of steel strip loads from Goodwood Scenics and then they will join the fleet. Another excellent model from Cavalex and looking forward to the TEA tanks and class 56 locos I have on order John

The 66 looks superb, did you respray it yourself? What an excellent job on a complicated livery. John

I had a problem getting DCC concepts ground signals working through new interface board. Called the technical department and received excellent advice as to the way forward. Now have 5 ground signals working perfectly on my DCC layout and they are excellent. Many thanks DCC Concepts - top support!! John

Hi there - 64B had 14 V2s over time john

They are easy to strip and respray! Got to admit - cracked yesterday and now have my 17th Hattons class 66 with one resprayed to Maritime Intermodal 1 and another reworked to 66113 Key people livery. A superb model and nearly all my Bachmann ones now sold.

Had a great chat with Chris at GETS and He was so helpful. I had Kadee couplings on a lot of my stock and found them useless on my layout which now has a helix at each end. Have fitted a lot of stock with Hunt couplings now and all have run faultlessly. Latest are the short swivel couplings fitted to my Accurascale PCA rake and excellent. No connection with company but a delighted customer and impressed how the variation of products are growing!

At the moment - there are approximately 175 container ships anchored off Chinese ports waiting to berth and load. Frustrating excuse? I don’t think so!!

For anyone interested, just thought I would post a photo of my re-worked DBS Hattons 66 to represent key worker livery 66113. After removing DB Schenker logo found I needed to re-spray the area where removed. Luckily, Phoenix Precision Paints DB red is a perfect match. decals are by Steve at Railtec and, to ensure no slivering when adhered to ribbed sides, I mixed a thin coat of PVA with water and brushed S coat over decal area prior to application of decals. Really pleased with final result.

Any small problems with these locos was very easily fixed. I never had to return any of the locos I bought and I have 16 of them. They are superb models with awesome haulage power and, at £119, you cannot go wrong.

My recently re-sprayed Bachmann 57 in WCRC livery passes over Parkway canal on a down light engine movement. -
Even though the older Heljan 47 was “a bit tubby” I always had this in preference to the Bachmann one. Looking forward to the new one and sure it will be very competitive with the Bachmann one

Just as I mentioned in an earlier post, all that money spent and you cannot detail the buffer beam when snowploughs fitted and 3 of first 5 models were fitted with snowploughs. Hornby and Heljan both managed to supply body mounted snowploughs. All that superb etching, they could have done ploughs also I would have thought. Shame, as rest of the model looks stunning and looking forward to the Scotrail model to go with DBSO (they never had ploughs fitted)
