  1. Thanks Mike, your post helped me to fix my own Hornby Class 50 after nearly two weeks of working on it and much head scratching!! Mine was bought back in Dec 2011 and is the factory sound fitted 50 037. I only had a small shelf layout at the time so it had a bit of light running back & forth and then went in to the cupboard. Wind forward 11 years and I've taken early retirement and finally started to build my long promised layout in the box room. I got the Class 50 out for a test run but found it to be very stiff & slow, in fact hardly moved at all. Plenty of Peco ElectroLube later it was at least now moving, but still very slowly! I read several forum posts and worried that it was the PCB issue mentioned and was about to start the search for a replacement but thought I'd have one more look through RMweb and came across your post. I've stripped the first worm gear out of the tower and low & behold found that one of the two bearings is completely immovable!! No amount twisting with a variety of tools will free it, however I re-assembled it with plenty of lubrication on the plastic cup it sits in and re-attached the top cover. Back on the track and problem solved!! Now running very smoothly and fast! 👍😀 Thanks again...
  2. This thread never ceases to amaze me - what a huge undertaking but what fantastic progress you have made so far!! Do you ever give youself a break from all that interior girder work to have a go at the other board with all the track & points on? Keep up the great work. Tim....
  3. Great Bank Holiday weekend last week - Planes, Trains & Automobiles!! Visited RAF Cosford musuem on Sunday, spent Monday on the Severn Valley Railway and then watched the F1 race in the evening ;-) Trouble is us boys owe the girls big time now....

  4. No railway modelling for two nights as I'm off to see the excellent Canadian rock trio 'Rush' tonight and then Roger Waters 'The Wall' on Friday - I'm just an old rocker at heart!!!!

I just looked through all the pictures of this on the Gallery and I think it is a great looking plan. What brought it to life for me however were the sketches! Is one of your club members a good artist or is it someone from the 'friends & family' brigade? I also really like the use of the overall station roof and buildings to hide the fact that the track is looping back to the fiddle yard. It will really give the impression of longer straighter platforms! Good luck with the project - I'll watch with interest. Tim....
  6. I have only recently read this topic from start to finish and I am amazed at what you are doing!! I can only imagine the hours you have put in to this so far, and of course the hours still to come... My son & I spent Saturday at the York Model Railway Show and while browsing through the many trade stands I came across the York Model Making stand. I thought I recognised the name, and then I made the connection - Boxenby Depot! I can see now why you chose to use them - friendly staff and great products. Looking forward to seeing how the outside of the shed looks. Keep up the good work. Tim...

  8. My wife has found a great deal on a hotel in Leeds so it looks like my son & I will finally get to visit the York Model Railway show!!

  9. Spent £260 on a train ticket yesterday to travel from Liverpool to London on business and guess what? - 3 trains cancelled so had to sit on the floor!!!!

I would recommend filing a formal, written complaint with the train operator and see what they do.
