  1. Surprised nothing on YouTube about them, mind there are ironstone mines they don't tell you the location but they look more modern than the eskdale mines
  2. Can you get in any of them or are they too high up on cliff side
  3. I knew they were shallow but didn't realise that shallow
  4. Those early mines aren't very deep at all any collapse could do some serious surface damage There are quite a few of the round Grosmont too Infact it was during the construction of the original tunnel that ironstone was discovered
  5. I didn't realise there was a problem with the tunnel but I'm pretty sure there some quite shallow mine workings under it or very close to it. There is a adit near the footbridge over the river
  6. That happened with my rover coupe, it had been part of a stored collection and tyres were a make I'd never heard of. Rear tyre blew out at high speed on the A47 at Thorney so I replaced all 5 the next day
  7. That price is ridiculous. As a teenager I worked in the booking offices at Grosmont and Goathland tickets between the two were very popular as it was just right for families to give kids a ride on a steam train . We sold quite a few singles for people who wanted to walk in one direction and use the railway purely as a mode of transport
  8. It's pretty good, just needs doors really. Everyone loves the colour but I'm not that keen would have preferred red, also would have preferred a mk1
  9. I have a Metro turbo been off the road for about 8 years but hopefully it will get restored next year. Doesn't need a massive amount it only done 20k
  10. As they had already started withdrawing type 4 hydraulics seemed an odd thing to overhaul a completely non standard loco
  11. Great pictures David Where is Harlaxton now? Had a spell on the north Norfolk was completely unsuitable for passenger work. I think it was a combination of rock hard buffers and big outside cylinders it used to knock hell out of the train . We actually had passengers throwing up, it was painful to ride behind it. Was worse when it was coasting down hill. I ruined a set of oleo buffers on a 27 when coupled to it
  12. Was that the engine they put in hawk?
  13. Oh bloody hell, not long since there were a few in march down yard
  14. Hi Mark I forgot ODA was originally a pipe, are there any of those still about
  15. Thanks Paul Interesting the tops code for the ferry version is open O rather the steel carrier S
  16. Until very recently there was a ferry tube in Wembley yard. It may still be in there somewhere
  17. Hi Steve, the track circuit block joint is normally a bit further on. Not good practice to run past platform starters even if they are off. It might be an optical illustration.
  18. Some great pictures there David, green 40 in 75 The last on is actually on the down. Has the loco ran past the red? Unusual for down trains to use platform 1 but you have two pictures of it happening on here
  19. Bloody hell Kev that seems like yesterday, I had hair then Can't believe that was over 25 years ago. Is it silent
  20. I remember working trains of CODS as some tubes became with doors removed and they were loaded with concrete sleepers
  21. Shame they all went, did some have frames from quite old wagons kev?
  22. Am I right in thinking that pipe wagons would be loaded with smaller pipes sometimes ceramic across the wagon and tubes longer ones longwise always metal Cheers
  23. Those seats are awful. Mine are red and black leather
  24. That's a shame Jim You don't want an MGf do you? Absolutely solid but needs mot and has a bit of micro blistering
  25. Interesting set of pictures this morning David. I've recently watched some YouTube videos of the coast line as it is today, amazing how vegetation has grown up on that stretch especially round Sandsend tunnel portal. It's looking very dodgy inside nowadays especially towards the northern end. Must be getting on for 30 years since I last walked through it Nice to see a picture of a disc 31. Very rare nowadays such a shame one has recently been scrapped
