  1. And I bet after a couple of months you couldn't tell they'd been painted !
  2. Great stuff guys, some really fantastic and inspirational modelling on here. Thanks for sharing. Alan.
  3. I suppose it's a new slant on "let me show you my etchings"! Alan.
  4. Hi Chubber, I agree with all other comments, your buildings are fantastic. More please . . . . Alan.
  5. Allan, Sounds to me like you should be writing a James Herriot type book about freelance model making! Alan.
  6. Wow and what a "secret weapon". Hope I'm still around and able to carry on modelling at that age! Alan.
  7. Hi Allan, Thanks again for your kind comments. I have thought about taking it up professionally in the past and may look more seriously at things over the next few years maybe as a supplement to early retirement! I think I would struggle at pricing things though so any help in that area would be appreciated. Alan.
  8. Now just to show I have built in other scales, here's a 4mm example built for the Milton Keynes MRC EM gauge Milton Quays layout. Photo is attributed to Phil Parker and taken from Flickr.
  9. Here's another building made a while ago for an old layout that no longer exists now. This is based on a house in a nearby village that I used to pass on my way to work. Construction is from foamboard with Howard Scenics printed brickpaper before I started using embossed plasticard.
  10. Would like to see more please. Have you modelled the goods yard area? Being local I have walked the old line a few times but only moved into the area after the railway had long gone. Alan.
  11. Yes, that's the one Allan. We had an exchange about it on your own topic some time ago. It started me on a voyage of migration from Superquick kits at the time! Alan.
  12. I'm sure Allan and Iain have been an inspiration to many of us over the years. I remember making a 4mm scale forge with thatched cottage after reading Allan's article in the RM in the seventies. The thatch was made of strands of knitting wool and then covered in flock powder! Alan.
  13. Another pub, this time from my current layout.
  14. I'm a bass player Allan (failed guitarist!), play in a blues/rock covers band in and around the Oxford area mainly. I live in north Bucks but originally from Nottingham many years ago. Alan.
  15. The pub was actually based on a model building in the Railway Modeller years ago, I think by Mike Gill (?) and the garage was again based on a model in MRJ. The shop and cottage though were both based on real buildings, not sure I have the original photos now though will have a look later. The woman who owned the cottage was quite bemused when I knocked on her door to ask if I could take some photographs in order to make a model. She was fine with it (I took along some model photographs to show I was not casing the joint). When I eventually finished the model I gave her some photos of the finished model. Alan.
  16. Now that's a good idea showing the prototype picture as well.
  17. Thanks Allan, that's praise coming from yourself. I hope we will see some great examples on here from many others. Looks like we have a good start already.
  18. I thought I would start this topic after following the Allan Downes - Iain Robinson debate with much interest. Hopefully this will give us lesser mortals a place to show our own efforts. I've started off with a few 7mm examples I have built over the last few years.
  19. Hi Rob, I'm sure you would have had no problem with the Lincs. The ease of construction and "near enough" accuracy was what attracted me to them in the first place. There is still debate when these will be back on the market but I fortunately stocked up so have plenty to keep me going with. Alan.
  20. Yes, I do enjoy shunting and use the Lincs autocoupling system which works well most of the time. I also fancy a more rural scene as opposed to my urban layout at the moment. Alan.
  21. That's really weird, Kestle Mill is very similar to an idea I have been sketching about with for a small inglenook type layout. My main layout Factory Lane Sidings is more or less complete and I have a couple of exhibition and magazine commitment before I decide what to do next. So a small inglenook is on my list as a stop gap.
  22. I'm thinking about building a smallish 0 gauge "Inglenook" type layout with spare track I have. I guess I really ought to try handbuilt points but having two old Peco points spare is a great temptation . . .
  23. Hi Mike, I like the look of this, some great buildings and good use of a small space. Alan.
