  2. Only just caught up with this. Looks a great build, even more so for a first time build. I remembering buying the first part out of curiosity but didn't get any further than that! Alan.

Chaz, Servos and such like a bit above my head, but the signal looks great and will be even better if you manage to get the bounce working. Alan.
  4. Hi Andy, Pleased to hear you've got it sorted. I've used textured masonry paint in the past when trying to simulate gravel paths etc. I think it's possible buy in tester pots. Alan.
  5. Thanks Jeff. No not been in print, I have exhibited at a couple of local Milton Keynes exhibitions that's all. Alan.
  6. Hi Jeff, Yes, I have had a couple of exchanges with Andrew P. My own effort is on the link below my signature. All the best. Alan.
  7. Hi Jeff, I have been reading through your post (most of it anyway!) over the past few days and would like to say you are doing a great job. Very enlightening and enjoyable. I used to enjoy reading David Jenkinson's layout reports in the various mags over the years. Only wish I had the space (and money) to create something similar in my chosen scale, 0 Gauge. Cheers. Alan.
  8. Hi Andy, Nice to have memories like that. My Dad's first car was a Morris Minor, reg number SAL 17 of which I have a model on my layout. Alan.

Hi Chaz, Glad you managed to get on with point levers, hope the instructions were useful! Have a good Christmas. Alan.
  10. Marc, I agree, I ended up laying my track and then realised I had a big area to fill at the front of the layout. Then decided to turn things around and view from the other side! Alan.
  11. Hi George, I always think it's good to have at least a couple of projects on the go at once so you can switch between them when one becomes a bit of a chore at times! Alan.
  12. We also often have a day visit to the Cotswolds including Bourton and I usually have a wander around the shop. Alan.
  13. Hi George, Thanks for that, I'd never have thought of using scissors! I will get hold of some nickle sheet I think as you suggest and have a play. Alan.
  14. Hi George, Only just discovered this thread, you've built some fantastic looking locos there, very inspirational. I've built one or two 7mm loco kits but haven't yet tried scratchbuilding but considering a Johnson 1F as per yours. What tools do you generally use for cutting the brass to shape, do you have an extensive workshop? Could you also tell me whose drawing you used for the 1F please. Keep up the great work. Alan.

Hi Marc, I agree and had a whole load of them from previous layouts. Would love to have the time to use hand built track but prefer to spend my time on other aspects of the hobby. I do think the new version (with "coffin") though are not as good as the older ones. Alan.
  16. I have experimented with backscenes on my layout in the past but could never seem to get a convincing viewpoint so chickened out and went for the plain blue/white option! Nice looking hotel by the way. Alan.
  17. Hi Rod, Thanks for your comments, I'm sure things will progress quickly once you get the basic landscaping in place. I quite enjoy making the buildings actually but have to be in the right frame of mind. Alan.
  18. Hi Rod, Only just discovered this one myself as well. Will now follow with interest. Alan.

Hi Chaz, I've not bought any new Peco points for some years as I had a stock which I used for my layout. So are the ones you are using a newer design as the box seems to be quite a bit longer than my types and it sounds as though a microswitch is contained, is that correct? Alan.

Any tips on how to remove fibres from your fingers though?

Hi Chaz, I bought some grass clumps from a supplier I found online called Fields of Glory Models. They appear to sell wargame type things mostly but their grass clumps are advertised as 1/35th scale. Link to them below: http://www.fieldsofg...s&Category=7481 They do a couple of different lengths and bought both long and short, but the longer ones seemed to suit my purposes better. I have attached a photo below (not the best quality) but you can see the longer clumps on the corner and at the end of the track on my end loading dock.

Chaz, I used hanging basket liner and paint brush bristles with various scatter/foam materials for what bit of greenery I have on my current layout. I also bought some grass clumps for use in various places. I quite like the look of the static grass applicators nowadays but not tried one yet. Alan.
