  1. I have had similiar problems with static fibres and can advocate Missy's method. It looks much more natural with the mixed density fibres. I have also taken to breaking it up with bits of ground foam to vary the texture and colours.
  2. Large leaf catching net? Any plans for new layout yet?
  3. Not a bad idea Kris. If I am clever with space I only need 1 to be removable. boards are 2 ft by 3ft'6 and station main board is 2ft 6 by 4ft!
  4. Am really enyoying this thread- Deck weathering on the car float is very nice! Overall scene is looking awesome.
  5. The 20 looks good there, really imposing!
  6. The other option is to use code 55 and correct the sleeper spacing- Cut out some of the webs that hold the sleepers together then slide them along. Not quite as pretty as easitrac but then you can use stock points. Neat uncoupling solution- post some pics/video of it in action when its finished?
  7. I agree that the G scale deserves a wider audience- Its amazing and has some real budget innovation in an expensive scale which has clearly inspired quite a few people. The big diesels look great, give them some running room, there are loads of OO layouts around but your G scale stuff is unique.
  8. I have a load of scrap hardboard to test the back scene height with. I can get everything in with 2 fixed 18" and one removable 18" backscene. Glass tables are not usually associated with railway construction!
  9. Sorry about multiple postings- it didn't appear the first time!
  10. Possible spot to model? Here? Lots of interest possible. Can be photographed too.
  11. Loving this model! Astonishing scratchbuild again.
  12. Agreed on height, more is better but the other 2 boards require fixed backscenes as they curve. The maximum height for my crate is 46inches so space for all three is going to be tight. This is the maximum size that will fit my van! I have worked out that I can get 2 of these crates in there allowing me room for 6-8 boards if needed, whilst still leving space for the ot her bits and pieces to run the layout. I am amazed Pete that you have built so beautifully without workshop space! I think that 18" is the biggest I can get on the other 2 boards so I am going to try this next. Tomorrow I might try doing some more work on it. I'm going to work on the SDR on Tuesday as a volunteer so I'll blog that too.
  13. Just a brief update, further to discussions about the backscene, this is a picture of the test one on the scenic board. This was an offcut of hardboard I found at work. Its 15" high but I may have to cut this down a bit to fit the crate or make it removable. Has anyone done a removable backscene? This board is flat so should be ok as there are no curves in the backscene.
  14. I used code 55 peco track on Kbridge and its worked great. I have the same problem with ordering, just takes a bit of planning and putting up with paying postage! Will watch this post with interest.
  15. Rivets can be made from very thin styrene rod- shave bits off with sharp scalpel blade and stick with liquid poly. Boring but looks ok.
  16. They look great! I agree about the shinyness. Another solution I came across in a car magazine was an ageing paste for car paint, people use it to blend new paint to the original, makes the shine flatter and lightens it to look like sun bleaching. Will look for a brand name.
  17. Thats interesting. I considered aluminium sheet but its pricy. Anyone used he slotted "curve" mdf? Glad you liked the IOW pics. It was a shame the Terrier wasn't steaming that day as its the one from the Hayling Island branch that was a sign for the Hayling Billy pub before restoration!
  18. I must apologise for my slow progress but house repair tasks have taken all my time at the moment! Progress on Kbridge since last time has been confined to; Wiring completed on the throat board and the ballast and yard surfaces laid. All the point motors were tested too and amazingly everything worked! Thanks to all those who contributed solutions from here. Backscene added to the scenic section- this is currently a trial size as I am unsure wether it will all fit in the crate I have designed yet, so I may have to make it a removable one on this board and fixed on the other 2. What is people's preferred material for backscenes? Mine has curves in all the corners so needs to be flexible. Started work on blending in the bridge arches and finishing the wing walls So not completely zero progress but slow. I will post some more pics shortly but in the meantime though I would share these from the Isle of Wight steam railway. WD austerity 0-6-0st Beautifully restored southern 4 wheelers Station and works.
  19. Might see the SDR's railfreight class 20 this week, will see how yours compares! Looks great.
  20. Post a copy of this on the "motors and drive systems" forum. I am sure someone will be able to help. If not send it back and get a refund?
  21. Thanks- will PM you when I can decide what to do!
  22. Thats very clever. Sure beats £600 plus for manufacturers locos! So you could use two motor bogies on the same speed controller for bigger diesels like the deltic? I am moving house soon and am wondering wether I could plan this into the garden! What R/C gear did you use to upgrade the playmo stuff? I have a few sets around somewhere but never thought I'd be thinking of using them in a train for my garden...
  23. I am still amazed at the fabrication speed! What was the chassis and underframe from?
