Excellent work, Dave. I've always had a soft spot for these locos as we had a small clutch of them at Southport. The external condition of yours is somewhat better than the inhabitants of 27C/8M, a shed which by appearances didn't have a single cleaner on the staff!

Quite delightful, Ian!

Excellent work, Tim. I do like Planets and you have turned the kit into a delightful representation.

David,
I can understand the appeal of the curved roof shed with its interesting roof trusses but the pitched roof building has a more 'engine shed' look to it. Indeed it reminds me of some of the structures on the ironstone lines in the East Midlands which were used as locomotive sheds/workshops. Many of these were of corrugated material on a wooden frame with a brick base. In fact I would model it almost exactly as in your photograph as it exudes just the right amount of character.

Hi Rob
Some excellent work there. I expect you're looking forward to glueing the chairs on! There is something about really big turnouts on a layout; I think it has something to do with them being relatively rare. A 2FS colleague of mine has some rather wonderful FB F20s on his developing Swinton layout. You can see them here:

Page down to the April entry. Not on a curve like yours but impressive nonetheless.

More excellent work, Dave. This layout is stunning. I always look forward to your updates.

A delightful layout, Yan, and I hope to see it at a show on this side of the Pennines at some point.
I like the look of Dingham couplings but I have failed to persuade the manufacturer to shrink them to 2mm scale so I'll have to stick with the DGs.

Excellent work! A proper micro built with care and attention to detail.

Absolutely delightful, Dave. Crabs are such characterful locos that we don't see modelled half enough. I have around fifty or sixty underlined in my ABCs but, sadly, not 42713.
Your Caprotti 5MT is another classic from my past that I love seeing. My local shed in Southport was responsible for some of the scruffiest examples around and we had a number of them over the years.

Tim,
As the rail is soldered directly to the sleepers, will the flanges have enough clearance over the inside jaw of the chairs?
A pair of delightful little locos by the way.

Excellent work as ever, Dave. This layout just gets better and better.

Nice work, Dave. I look forward to seeing it finished. Good to see someone with discerning taste! I was very familiar with these locos as, in the early 1960s, Southport shed (27C/8M) had a small batch of them. Like most of the rest of Southport's allocation they were in fairly terrible condition. Some people regard them as ugly, can't imagine why . . .
Southport often ended up with oddities as we also had 44686/44687 and the Stephenson loco 44767. All in the same miserable condition I'm afraid.

Nice work again, Jonas. You're quite good at this, aren't you?

Ian,
For me this is one of the most useful items on the Internet. I use it quite a lot and I'm aware that there are gaps and some occasional errors but these are far outweighed by the site's overall usefulness. I appreciate how much work is involved and that your enthusiasm may wane at times but I do value its continued availability.

Excellent trackwork, Andrew. I love trackwork that really flooooows . . . !

Merry Christmas, Andy!
Kendal in January. Hope the waters have receded . . .

Excellent way to spend a birthday! Thanks for the brilliant pics and informative captions. Hope you'd wrapped up well for the station at the summit!

This is a delightful layout, Dave. I always look forward to your blog entries.

Which motor are you intending to use, Ian?
Nice work so far.

A fine piece of work, sir!

I do like a C2X! The pipe is the vacuum ejector pipe as some (all?) were dual fitted as can be seen here:
Be nice to see yours in Southern livery.

Excellent, Pete! Another wagon freak in the making. I do love a line of vans and very typical of freights to the Kyle.
35 days to go. I'm sure that your little layout will be a great success.

Ian,
Am I being a little thick here? Your jig has a piece of 0.5mm nickel in it so how does it hold a piece of 1mm square brass bar in the gap between the hinge plates?
David

Very interesting, Ian. I'm going to need some of these myself. Does the jig have some method of keeping the brass bar at the correct level and, indeed, level?

Some nice neat wiring there, Andrew. I do like neat wiring. The tangle under some layouts makes me feel quite ill. Well done!
Looking forward to more Cheddar in 2018!
