IF I may make an observation . My mate purchased A place near Hesdin in northern France the external parts of the wall were rendered over the beams and the brickwork was only the bottom 1 meter
but the pinning of the joints is spot on and the colourings god too

if you are still thinking ally then pop to your local scrap yard or council recycling depot and see it they have any freezers or fridges you could cut a side off. one benefit is its already painted white

another way to stain the wood is to use tea
make a cup of black tea to the required colour add some washing up liquid n soak the wood in that . I have seen it used on matchstick models to great effect

Dave could i suggest that as the turntable appears to be the end of that base board you may have slight issues lining the tracks up perhaps a fixed board where the turntable finishes may help alignment ..... hope that makes sense

a more healthy way of staining wood is to use tea or coffee it is just a matter of getting the infusion right
I have seen this used on matchstick models to great effect

David to be honest small buildings like this more often then not have very patch mortar courses in IMHO hyour brick work looks pretty good
