My T9 had a bit of pipe loose in the box when it arrived. Minor repair but annoying. Another difficult one is the dynamos on the Hawksworths, very flimsy fitting but nothing a bit of superglue won't cure. On Bachmann my Super D the smokebox door wasn't too clever, but again a fairly easy job to fix.
  2. The ZKV is a 27T Iron Ore Tippler. There were 1000 of these built and they were often used for stone traffic, and finally for spoil. They didn't have holes cut in like the 16T wagons for spoil use as they were much stronger
  3. The brass woodscrews are probably the most valuable part of it
  4. Daughter:- Are you playing trains? Grandson (22 Months old):- No, I running railway.

  9. Another artist who can weather, renumber and photograph both sides without getting it out of the box. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AWESOME-Bachmann-IVATT-CLASS-4-DETAILED-RENUMBERED-WEATHERED-/200708860217?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item2ebb2e2939
  10. Unless my eyes are tricking me or it's a strange camera angle, that chassis looks a bit short. Granted it does have wheels, buffers and couplings.
  11. Flatpacking - 136 pieces for an IKEA bathroom cabinet. How many in an average wagon kit?

  13. Think at 22 months old Grandson is showing Midland tendencies. Put two small engines on front of Brio train and shouted "Double Heading".

  14. Why is it that in the throne room there always seems to be a bit of skirting board you can't paint without putting your head in the bowl?

  16. An interesting bit of paper is the log of the crime at BTP. http://www.railwaysa.../BTP_GTR001.pdf This qoutes the "Glove and Battery" method given in evidence at the trial
  17. Haven't watched the documentary yet, but besides the GPO insiders it was alledged at the time that there was one or more railway insider involved. The gang had to be able to stop the train and have time to get the bags off without suspicion being aroused until it had been an unusually long time in section. I was told in the 1960s that suspicion was also thrown on staff working on the modernisation of the line, but nothing came of this as far as I am aware.
  18. At Birmingham these had Westerns at the end of the Kings in 1962, then went over to virtually all 47s around 1964.
  19. When i worked around Crewe in the late 1960s there was a regular Warship working in the afternoon on a NW-SW service.
  20. It was about 1966 when I last put one on using a hand drill, at Water Orton West.
  21. Not so fond memories of drilling through rails for those with a hand ratchet.
  22. Quite a lot lasted into 1960 (I think about 125) but only 7 made it into 1963.
