  1. The result of Whitehall desk jockeys with no engineering experience or knowledge only specifying just enough, but no provision for eventualities.
  2. I had to do a double take on the pub signs, I thought it was the Eldridge Pope, Huntsmans Ales sign and I wondered what beer from Dorchester was doing in the forest. When I enlarged the picture the truth was revealed.
  3. Single line working, was introduced between Newton Abbot and Totnes, Sunday afternoon/evening, due to a landslip. The up line was in use, I was on the wrong side of the train to see the exact location and the extent of the slip, it did however add nearly 70 minutes to the already 10 minute late train.
  4. Keep pestering the solicitor, if you want completion in a reasonable time, I hope that neither party are using online solicitors, when my friend was buying a property in Yeovil, the vendor used an online solicitor based in Wales, it took nearly six months to get completion, it was virtually impossible to get hold of them.
  5. Sorry, I have no idea about the history of the rifle club and no longer have contact with our host.
  6. Hi All, I have finally got to the current end of this epic layout build after ANTB posted a link here with the arrival of the Granges at the end of July last year. I thank St E for replacing the lost photos, that in itself was a mammoth task. I do have a question, which way round do you fit the diodes to the coils on the electro magnets, I forgot to make a note of it whilst wading through these 300 odd pages and I don't fancy going back through them to find the answer. Thanks for the ride it has been a pleasant read.
  7. I had a visit several years ago to the Brighton rifle club that uses the tunnel as their rifle range, from the outside you wouldn't know that there was ever a tunnel there.
  8. Photos of GW chairs appear on Templot Resources, by Phil O. Here's a link to the post that contains the Bridge chairs, just scroll down to find them. https://85a.uk/templot/archive/topics/topic_187.php
  9. Thanks for all the support from fellow RMWebbers. I was evacuated on Thursday morning and overnighted with a drinking buddy. On Friday morning I left for a gig in Brum, so I missed out on all of the Friday shenanigans, for which I am truly thankful. I didn't get to return home until after 7,30 last night due to a landslip between Newton and Totnes, resulting in single line working between the two. Having chatted to the regulars down the pub, chaos ensued after it was announced that the bomb was going to be moved and the cordon extended along the route to the ferry. I don't know if it's still available on Plymouth Online, but most of the women that I know had a good giggle, with regards the shape of the extended evacuation area. Thanks again.
  10. There's the Pen and Sword book Pannier Tank Classes, by David Maidment. https://www.pen-and-sword.co.uk/Great-Western-Pannier-Tank-Classes-Hardback/p/16859
  11. With any track laying, z gauge to full size, test all rolling stock over it, in both propelling and pulling, in various configurations. If any piece of rolling stock doesn't perform well, check the wheels conform to the required specifications and adjust as required and test again. If a lot of stock derails in one location, check that the gauge is correct and also the alignment, the mark one eyeball at rail level is the best tool for that and also the use of a mirror can help. Don't rush to ballast the track, until your absolutely happy that everything is performing faultlessly. It's easier to rectify faults now, than later.
  12. Have the fast trains to Victoria, via Dorking and Sutton, been reinstated? The last time I used a train from or to London, the Dorking route was peak time stoppers, all the fast trains were via Gatwick.
  13. I helped my good friend out at the Ally Pally last year, we left the car at the venue and used public transport. We both have granny bus passes.
  14. if you decide on doing a 1076, any chance of one with rectangular cab windows, as used on Plymouth area auto trains. Thanks.
  15. Have you tried the Templot Club, forum? They tend to be very helpful, there.
  16. Many thanks for that, I will measure the width over the wheels of one of my outside framed locos, to double check, but I think all will be well.
  17. Not all trains stop at Blakedown, if it had been a non stopper, the situation may have been different!!
  18. The Treasury won't be getting much fuel duty revenue when all vehicles are electric, or are they going to add duty to electricity prices?
  19. Hi All, Do you have any recommendations for a soldering station? Mostly I will be using it for 4mm kits, Brass, Nickel Silver and Whitemetal and occasional use on 7mm kits. Many Thanks.
  20. SEF kits that have etched chassis are produced by branchlines. I don't know if the artwork was transferred to Squires along with the cast kits. A phone call to Squires will ascertain whether they can supply an etched chassis. The Branchlines chassis go together well.
