  1. I read somewhere that all the Deltic's were repainted from green to blue fairly quickly because of the small class and all done by 1969. I was wondering if anyone has the the repainting dates for the class? Any help would be great. Julian Sprott
  2. Love the picture of D251 with a full rake of blue and grey Mk I's. Julian Sprott
  3. Terrific photo but drat, drat and double drat lol Julian Sprott
  4. I'm trying to find the identities of any Class 40's that had been painted into BR Blue from about 1967 onward's. I'm modelling Ais Gill in the late steam era and I really fancy one of the new Graham Farish Class 40's, one (or more) in green but a single one in blue. Any help would be great. Julian Sprott
  5. I know that the later build Class 20's, 25's, 47's and of course the 50's were painted BR blue from new but I'm trying to find out when loco's started getting repainted from about 1967 onward's. As I'm modelling Ais Gill towards the end of the steam era, I fancy getting one of the new Graham Farish Class 40's in both green and sparkling new BR blue paint. The problem I seem to keep running up against, in the era I'm modelling, most people were photographing the last of the steam over the S&C and diesel's seemed to have been ignored. If I was modelling the 70's and later, photographs and books abound. If anyone can help, it would be most useful. Julian Sprott
  6. When I lived in Hampshire, at a local railway society, there was a discussion about 34102 Lapford and one member said that when it was withdrawn, there was already a preservation group interested in it but outbid by Buttergieg's. After talking with BR, it seems that they were happy to let Buttergieg resell it to them and Buttergieg were happy to oblige (obviously they were going to make some money with the added bonus of not have to do any work plus saving the cost of the gas). The agreement was that they had to pay a deposit and then pay the balance within a agreed time, so when 34102 arrived at the scrap yard, it was put to one side but there's a but. From what the member said, Buttergieg asked numerous times for the deposit and when it finally arrived, it bounced! So they lost patience and the rest they say is history. Julian Sprott
  7. Like you, I don't watch that tat but probably a local preserved railway, most likely the Wensleydale as the show is filmed in that area. Julian Sprott
  8. I seem to remember reading that 70000 was originally put on the scrap tender list after it was pulled from the preservation selection and was successfully bid on by Drapers of Hull but the group that was based at the Severn Valley Railway managed to either buy it direct from BR or cut a deal with Drapers. Also they had to raise the money very quickly or it would have been sent to Drapers and eventual scrap. I'm not sure there's any truth in the story, but as you know what urban myths are like. Julian Sprott
  9. Well, complete as many left in 16t mineral wagons lol. Have I hit a nerve? Julian Sprott
  10. If 70013 was the last to be overhauled, I wonder what the last few were and at what works? Julian Sprott
  11. Was it overhauled in 66 or 67? I know it was late. Julian Sprott
  12. It's well known that BR Standard, Britannia 70013 Oliver Cromwell was the last steam loco to have a full overhaul and was one of the loco's used on the Fifteen Guinea Special but what did it do between being overhaul and hauling that train? I seem to remember reading ages ago it was already booked for the train and was kind of kept out of harms way in case something happened to it. Was it based at Kingmoor, Carnforth, Lostock Hall or one of the other last remaining North Western sheds? Julian Sprott
  13. Thanks for the above information for passenger workings but I don't suppose anyone know's what the freight ones would be or needn't I worry as the most of them were steam worked? Julian Sprott
  14. Looking for regularly used headcodes on diesel's that displated them and ran over the Settle and Carlisle in the mid to late 60's. I've looked through books, websites and found loads of diesel pics in the 70's and 80's but very few in the 60's. I suppose most people were photographing the last of the steam. Julian Sprott
  15. No, it was hired in. LT's charter stock is a 4-TC set, originally two and the other is now at Butterley on the Midland Railway Centre. I believe it's stored there on behalf of another preserved railway (Swanage perhaps). Julian Sprott
  16. GatEx stock was used, using LT battery loco's top and tailing. Julian Sprott
  17. I wonder why the Deltic's were the first to be treated? Julian Sprott
  18. I've looked through several Settle and Carlisle books and it seems that most of the 9F's used on the line towards the end of steam, had the higher sided BR1B, C and K (I assume) tenders, even though some were paired with BR1G's from new. The only exception to that was ex Crosti boilered 92021 which in 1967 had a BR1G. As I model in N gauge, I want to use Dapol's 9F's but they only seem to produce it with the BR1G (at the moment). I hope they do a ex Crosti boilered version as well but then I can dream Julian Sprott
  19. I think the Class 55 Deltics started using them a little earlier as I remember a kid seeing a picture of one and going "wow". Julian Sprott
  20. I'm not very knowledgeable about BR 9F's and the tenders that ran behind the engines later in their lives. I know there were several types but were they interchanged regularly, especially later in life. Were the BR1G tenders that were allocated to WR engines swopped with other tenders when they were transfered to the LMR? As I'm trying to model a portion of the S&C from about 1964 till the end of regular steam over the route in 1967, I want to try and get the right combination of engine/tender for the time period. Any help would be most useful. Julian Sprott
  21. If they pass the 3ft rule, the BCK will do lol. Julian Sprott
  22. Thank you for posting that but as I'm modelling N gauge, what could I use for the RK's as I don't think they are available in N (or OO gauge). Everything else I can source. Julian Sprott
  23. Well, that's two, just need the rest Julian Sprott
  24. Any clues as to what they are? Julian Sprott
  25. That site gives me a idea of what was used on the railtour but it gives no clue as to what the consist or numbers of the five coach set was, only one of the coaches on the six coach set which was 21236, a BCK? Julian Sprott
