  1. Looking for information, track plans and photographs of Andover station (formerly Andover Junction Station) in the early 70's when the Waterloo-Exeter services were still in the hands of class 42 Warships and later class 33's. Also what was used on the Salisbury-Waterloo services and how much freight ran through the station? Julian Sprott
  2. I know several members of BR built class 42 Warships MU'ed together from time to time but I wonder if ever both BR built Class 42's and NBL Class 43's ever did? As both builds were white diamond multiple unit fitted, in theory they could work together but in practise, did they ever? Julian Sprott
  3. Are there any kits available of this style of box? I seem to remember it was painted in a brown colour but I could be mistaken (I was only 9 or 10 lol) Julian Sprott
  4. Looking for information and pictures of Worle Junction signal box before it was removed when the Weston loop was singled in the early 70's. I remember as kid getting a tour of the box and thinking of making a model of it. Julian Sprott
  5. Are they the same or similar style of wagons that in the Silver Bullets set? Julian Sprott
  6. As the train is now run by GBRf and routed via the WCML to Scotland. When it was with EWS and later DBS, was it regularly routed over the S&C? Julian Sprott
  7. I recently purchased a Kato/Dapol "Silver Bullet's" set as I really liked it (we've all been there) but wondered what it's routing was/is? I seem to recall it started in Cornwall and ended up in Scotland. Can I ask what it's usual number of wagons was as I'm sure I'd need more than the number supplied in the set. Julian Sprott
  8. Any idea when they were last used for any kind traffic? Would they still been around by the late 70's? Julian Sprott
  9. I saw a boxed set of Graham Farish Fruit Vans in late bauxite livery at a toy fair today and I was wondering when BR lost the fruit traffic and were they possibly used for any other traffic? As my layout is set on the S&C from the mid 60's through to the mid/late 80's, would they appeared on the S&C in the the early part of my time frame? Julian Sprott
  10. What people forget is the model makers are now having to pay for licences to the train operators and I believe SouthWest Trains are charging quite a bit for 3rd parties to use their logo's and branding. I think you'll find that this is now becoming quite common or is common with train operating companies and that additional charge will be passed on to us, the eventual customer. Julian Sprott
  11. Pilning has to be top of the list. Only one stopping train a week on a Saturday (and in one direction). Imagine being stuck there for a week waiting for your next train Julian Sprott
  12. Ooops, I never saw that post. Can this post be deleted? Julian Sprott
  13. I've just read on WNXX that DB have put 10 Class 66's up for sale, one recently repainted but with "serious" engine problems, so if you in the market for one, now is the time Those for sale are; 66008, 66016 (recently repainted), 66046, 66058, 66081, 66132, 66141, 66184, 66238 and surprisingly, 66250. Julian Sprott
  14. Seems a terrible waste of a under used asset. At least there being used in Bulgaria. Julian Sprott
  15. The link didn't work, which was a shame. I apply the 3ft rule when modelling and like you, if I can't notice it at over 3ft, I don't worry about it. I have the Graham Farish sound Class 108 which I know worked over the S&C as that particular set was based at KM; but I was hoping that a NL based Class 101 might have worked over the line at some point. Julian Sprott
  16. I believe that the BR1F tender is the one that's "maxed out" regarding coal (7 tons) and water capacity at 5625 gallons, hence the tender sides followed rolling stock profiles and didn't have the cut out others had. The BR1E and J tenders had a larger coal capacity at 10 tons but smaller water capacity. I think the BR1F was used on routes where there were fewer water stops, I hope that makes sense? I think the tender wheelbase remained the same for all BR tenders. Julian Sprott
  17. There were 08's at Exeter and I seem to remember a pair of Bristol Bath Road (BR) at Taunton in the mid 70's, working the sleeper works. Julian Sprott
  18. I recently purchase a Graham Farish Class 101 DMU in BR Blue and I was hoping it would be a Leeds based example to run on my forth coming S&C layout. I noticed that they are numbered M50325, M59118 and M50307 but I've discovered that they were allocated to Tyseley (TS) but not sure when. Can anyone shed any light on their workings and how far they travelled? If they only worked in the West Midlands area, did any similar sets work at Neville Hill (NL) or Newton Heath (NH) and possibly travelled over the S&C? Julian Sprott
  19. Inverurie is just north of Aberdeen. Julian Sprott
  20. Stand corrected...... Julian Sprott
  21. Just bought the book. Julian Sprott
  22. 45562 Alberta should be one of the remaining Holbeck five, as well as 45593 Kolhapur and 45596 Bahamas. 45690 Leander had been long withdrawn in 1964 from Bristol Barrow Hill and probably in Woodhams yard by 1967. Both 45647 Sturdee and 45675 Hardy were Holbeck engines until April and June 1967 respectively until withdrawn Julian Sprott
  23. From what I've read, the first allocations to the Western Region were at Bristol St Philips Marsh (PM) and London Old Oak (OO), then later Plymouth Laira (LA) in 1979 when the WR HST working were expanded into south west. The Eastern Region started with London Bounds Green (BN) and Edinburgh Craigentinny (EC). The later Midland Mainline and Cross County sets were based at Leeds Neville Hill (NL). Newcastle Heaton (HT) became a allocation when Grand Central's HST's were based there. I believe HST's were also serviced at Penzance Long Rock, Swansea, Derby, Aberdeen and Inverness, Newcastle Heaton (In BR era) also Laira for the Cross Country sets, though there maybe others depots and locations. Julian Sprott
  24. I was wondering what the last Jubilee workings were towards the end of steam and where were they were based? I seem to remember reading that there were five survivors in 1967, all based at Leeds Holbeck and mainly worked over the S&C, can anyone clarify this? Julian Sprott
  25. The pricing didn't always reflect distance. When I worked at Westbury (as well as other stations) in the booking office, it was at times considerably cheaper to go to London via Salisbury and Waterloo as the Paddington route was deemed the "premier" route and reflected eye watering higher prices. I believe this still applies to the east and west coast mainlines, the west being the "premier" one. Julian Sprott Julian Sprott
