Here are a few photos of my 7mm Buffalo under construction. I think you will see it is a very straight forward build nothing to fancy. I am looking forward to the day it is finished I get board with some builds this was one unfortunatly.

Above is the footplate section, this just requires the buffers soldering on and then can be painted. I try to build loco's for ease of painting. This is all black so needs only the buffer beams masking.

Above and below show the body before and after detailing. As seen from the top photo the bodyis a seperate unit and in the lower it is screwed to the footplate to allow the fitting of the details willstill split atpainting stage.

Below is the backhead which I have added a little extra detail to help make it look betterthan the plain casting and also a shot of one of the injectors that have been modified to allow the units to come apart again.

I hope that has brought things upto date, I am in the process of painting so I will post those soon.

Hi yes I have looked at nicks blog. I like his builds. I see he is did a gibson one, I made the same one when it was a models and leisure kit no nice etch cab then.

As you might expect, I'll be watching this with interest and getting increasingly tempted to do a pannier version. It's always good to see the detail work on 7mm builds as I find they give food for thought on what might be achieved in 4mm. The catches on the tank fillers and the filler caps on the sandboxes stand out as examples here.

The etched cab in the Gibson kit is a double blessing as the etch includes the parts for both the open and closed cab. Currently, the closed cab is sitting on a Bachmann 57XX body while I make up my mind what to do with it.

I have looked at your work, it is lovely, I partially like the O2 I have always had a soft spot for them. My build here is almost done I am just catching up a bit on here. It is actually nearer being finished than shown here.

The tank filler catches were cast but one was broken, made one then had to make to so they matched.

Those mainly cast Gibson kits were originally designed by my uncle.

Thanks Peter, though I suspect the O2 you're thinking of was ullypug's work in this and earlier entries, my only 0-4-4T so far is a 1532 class Johnson 1P.

Considering how long they've lasted and how easily they go together, it looks like your uncle did a good job.

Hi Nick

sorry about that I looked a few days ago, must be me age.

The Gibson cast kits were good I have a photo in my gallery of a saddle tank from an original kit. The G6 went together well from them too.

Which kit is the johnson of yours? I did a craftsman one years ago.

Hi Peter,

Yes it was a craftsman kit. All very basic, but great fun adding the extra detail like push-pull gear, and trying to get everything right for the specific class. There were at least six different types on the Somerset & Dorset between 1945 and 1955.

I had another look. It really looks the part, the one I did was a belpaire firebox version.

Is the S&DJR your main modelling?

As you've probably noticed by now, I also do GWR. I grew up with the GWR main line just down the road and the S&DJR a pleasant cycle ride over the hills. I'm building a GWR layout at present and don't have anywhere authentic to run my S&D stock, so I may well have to adopt Captain Kernow's 'Engine Wood' fiction of a junction at Midford to run them through the Cam valley.
