New tabletop project

Starting work on a fence and gates to go between the two buildings on the back edge ,  the gates are just Slaters sheet and microstrip ;

Seems the nightwatchman has been caught short on his rounds !

More work done on the gates and fencing , I  have also been trying to print my own signs , it took a few attempts to get the scaling right ! . Despite appearances due to camera wobble they are in fact readable , I just need a more neatly trimmed one for the finished article.

A quick mockup of it in place so still a bit wonky  , just need to fix it down and blend it into the ground .

Just need to add a few more weeds and undergrowth and the warning signs .

As you can see I also made a simple A4 skybox to take the pics against using resources from here ;

Excellent work, I love the attention to detail and the overall look, it blends together very well, the tones, colours and weathering.  But that brick wall at the end of the sidings looks a bit odd to me, maybe a touch over scale...?

Only a smidgen though , if you stand back a bit it doesn't look so bad ! :scratchhead:

Just a few little things to report , here's my first try at using seamoss for trees ,  just used the common method of spraying the natural pieces a browny grey colour , Javis scenics scatter was used for the leaves and 3M mounting spray was used as the fixative

Thanks everyone for the comments.

As for the code 100 it never really bothered me before and used it for the easy option of using set track points but when you mention it , it does kind of stick out .

In a weird coincidence just the day before you post about the rail I got my hands on some more finescale track , SMP Scaleway for the first time ever which I am using on my cakebox challenge entry and I must admit it makes the code 100 look a bit crap !

I think from now on I'm going to use that for any future projects although looking at the options for points it makes it expensive to buy ready made ones , I might have to learn how to solder properly and build my own !

I think it is something to do with a few skilled people's ability to model something as it is seen, rather than as it is expected or thought to be seen. I'm sure someone with two thumbs and more enthusiasm than sense such as myself would have fit in a coal staithe, water crane, the end of a station platform and cattle dock, maybe a few lorries and a man on a bicycle.

Interesting. I've been toying with a similar idea for a small club stand layout on a four foot by one foot board and I think I can just fit it in using Peco medium points

David's EP rules.jpg

It's not an original plan. Chris Krupa built something very similar in 009 called Minbury Abbas and I've seen an 0e quarry layout with the same basic plan.

I've laid it out on the board and it just fits with these rules while providing work for a main line loco (diesel or small tender loco) that brings five wagons in and a small shunting loco that only works the yard. With shorter British wagons it could probably handle rather more.

Though it's slightly different, you might also find the plan of the real Valmont silo here http://www.carendt.com/micro-layout-design-gallery/standard-gauge-lines/

useful.

Although the real location was a local grain silo shunted using capstans, a small industrial loco could easily work it instead and they were quite common for industrial set ups like this in many countries where they never ventured onto the main line. It was long closed when I found it but I think the operating pattern at Valmont would be typical of many private sidings where the local pick-up goods picks up full wagons from the exhange siding closest to the main line and then drops off some empties. The points connecting the industrial yard to the main line are then closed and the industrial loco shunts them one or two at a time for loading then leaves them for the main line loco to pick-up..

I know it's a very old topic but I have just found the above track plan and was wondering if someone could help me with a wiring diagram for it as I will be using Peco electofrog points etc.

Thanks Johna
