Liam
You'll need to escape from Yorkshire first Liam! Phil Despite the proximity of this place to the North Yorkshire Moors National Park we've actually had no snow! And with my luck by the time I get back down to the Midlands all the snow down there will have gone! Never mind, back to the SVR. Just had a look on the BBC Weather page and there doesn't appear to be any snow forecast, so let's hope Santa can get to his grotto next weekend. AMJ
Spotted that Foxfield and Gloc Warwickshire both had to cancel Santa yesterday due to snow. Sorry to hear you had to cancel, but if staff and public are all safely tucked up at home its much better than endangering people. Much discussion had been made on Saturday just in case Leeds suffered heavy snow fall. Middleton Park halt had a dusting during the day but at the Middleton we ran every train (pre booked) and full. A few years ago when there was heavy snow we were the only Yorkshire line to not cancel any Santas, it helps as the main station is next to the M621. BobM
Hi... Here at Arley we've been working solidly today (Thursday) to clear the platforms and station yard for Santa and our visitors to arrive this weekend.... so we've had a 'good day' as we say...! It was also great to see folks enjoying themselves on the 'Cracker' hauled by 43106....'The Pig'.....as it passed through See everyone at the weekend hopefully.....we are tired little bunnies now... Regards Bob 'The Pig' came through just as we started the job of removing ice and snow from the 'up' - 'the down' remained in its snowy state.... The 'down' in a very snowy and icy state prior to being totally cleared this afternoon and is now ready. The bridge during clearance.....both sides now also totally clear for all to use..... RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted December 14, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 14, 2017 Smashing work Bob And huge kudos to all involved for managing to put some extras on for the folks affected by the weekends cancellations http://www.svr.co.uk/NewsItem.aspx?a=817 Phil
Liam
Looks like you've done a good job Bob, saw some pictures at Bridgnorth and Foley Park from last weekend where virtually nothing wasn't covered in snow! Suspect that they'll still be a bit of snow on the ground on Saturday, but I heard that earlier this week some parts of the West Midlands had 8 inches of the stuff. Yet none in North Yorkshire . . . Yep...remains quite a covering although gone where the sun has got at it....we had an average depth of 9"-10"...thankfully no wind when it fell, otherwise probably would have drifted.... Everything has been cleared where necessary, and may I add, not solely by myself.....8 of us on it all day.....how much would that cost if we weren't volunteers? A further view of 'The Pig' today... RMweb Premium Blandford1969 Posted December 15, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 15, 2017 Great work there Bob. In answer to your question on cost, were we pay to employ people to do Santa, based on £10 per hour it would cost about £10,000 per day of Santa Operation. See you at Arley on Saturday, Duncan
BobM
Evening Guys...... Just a couple of images from a very busy Santa Weekend....when the 'Big Man' himself visited us at Arley....we'd cleared all the station of ice and snow where he needed to 'park the reindeer' safely and so that our visitors could come and see him in his grotto.... Although Arley remained firmly in the grip of winter during Saturday we did have some lovely sunny breaks which made for some pleasant if chilly views.... here visiting loco 80072 sits bathed in winter sunshine awaiting the next down so it can depart away for Kidderminster..... Sunday was a totally different day.......cold and raw to begin, rain not however dampening anyone's festive spirit.....here 'The Pig' simmers away in the rather, dank conditions...after the frontal rain had cleared, the temperature lifted and even some sunny breaks developed through the misty dampness. Regards Bob... Edited December 17, 2017 by BobM

RMweb Gold Tim Hall Posted December 26, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 26, 2017 From the SVR Official facebook page: Festive Season Service Update Not something we wanted to wake up to...in the last 48 hours, vandals have attacked some of our historic carriages at Kidderminster with graffiti. An investigation is underway. In light of this, some of our trains will be shorter than planned as the affected carriages will be removed from service. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. We are extremely saddened by this turn of events, especially in the season of goodwill. But, in true Severn Valley Railway spirit, we will continue with smiles on our faces and ensure the much-loved and painstakingly-restored vehicles are returned to service as quickly as possible for our passengers to enjoy. Liam
Not something I'd want to wake up to either! At least, unlike the North Yorkshire Moors Railway incident in the summer, all the vandals did to the carriages was daub graffiti and not smash the windows or cause any major damage to the infrastructure of the carriages. Might take some time for it to be washed off, mind. Does beg the question though, who'd want to do something like that? I've been associated with the railway (at least as a volunteer) for nearly five years and never seen anything like that. MarkC
A Let’s hope they’re as stupid as the nymr vandals who left loads of incriminating evidence... Davey
If caught, put them in the stocks to graffiti them, and then punish them!. Absolute scum! Davey Edited December 26, 2017 by Davey

tamperman36
Makes you wonder just what the youths of today have learnt about respecting other peoples property. If they catch the scum they will only get a slapped wrist.

John Tomlinson
Well, yet another graffiti attack on our national heritage. It might help if the "chattering classes" recognised that graffiti is an assault on someone else's property, and not just some bit of fun or a form of "art". it isn't "art" at all, simply criminality, unless of course the perpetrators confine their actions to their own property, which obviously they don't. I'm sick to the back teeth of the likes of Channel 4 News and other self styled "progressive" commentators regarding this as some form of alternative culture, worthy of our understanding or even empathy. It isn't and time to call it out for what it actually is! John. Edited December 26, 2017 by John Tomlinson
andyram
Dreadful news and completely unacceptable. Just a thought however - why was the stock stored overnight in the platforms and not protected in Kidderminster carriage shed? Of course the SVR should be able to stable stock outdoors, as other preserved railways do, without worrying about the risk of vandalism by the mindless scum that shares the oxygen with the rest of us. However, and playing devil's advocate for a second, valuable ex-LNER team stock and former GWR vehicles should really be kept in a secure place if such a secure place is available. Make no mistake I very upset to have read about this dreadful incident and make donation will be heading to the SVR to help with the repairs.
RMweb Premium Siberian Snooper Posted December 26, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 26, 2017 My thoughts on the subject would get me banned from this forum, but the perpetrators would be suffering some extreme physical discomfort.
Edge
My worry is the expense in removing said 'artwork' - any act to remove it will likely take off any paint and varnish beneath, possibly necessitating a repaint of the entire carriage. Very not good
