I started playing with the chassis the other day instead of getting on with the hall. You know what it is like just have a look at what goes where. Then low and behold I have got all bits fitted onto the frames, there is not very much to do on these old types. Its not so bad getting on with it but i have not even cleaned up the coupling rods yet.

I have fitted a part set of inside valve gear on this it is not complete or I expect not even correct, but it fills the gap and can hardly be seen anyway. It is sort of an experiment for when I do my 700 and possibly 0395.

Next job is tender chassis up to the same place, it should be quite quick too. There is no water pick up gear to complicate things.

My getting on with hall is not going to plan, as I got side tracked with this and trying to blue and stop wheels from rusting. I am having loads of trouble with rust since moving to the new workshop. Not sure if it is a change of flux or a higher humidity than at he apartment.

I think I am getting on top of it now. The wheels I have done are still fine after 2 days.

Hi Pete. Neat and good-looking work as usual. The inside valve gear may not be correct (I have no idea), but it sure looks good.

That's come along very nicely.

I have to agree with Mikkel. Even if the inside valve gear isn't 100% correct it'll still look better than none at all.

Thanks guys, I had forgotten how little there is on these older prototype chassis after doing a couple of more modern designs.

Hi Pete,

As always your work is immaculate, having just started my first brass chassis build and already running into trouble I really can appreciate what you are achieving.

With regard to the rusting problem you are experiencing don't forget your new house being just completed still contains gallons of water and will take ages to dry out completely. Years ago builders recommended you didn't decorate for at least six months because of this. Gentle heat and plenty of air circulation might help.

Thanks for the nice comments. Good luck with your chassis. Just take your tome and get each bit right before going onto the next.

The house took over 2 years to build so most bits dried out nicely, I think it is the area, I am not sure if you saw I live in Belem in Brazil most of city is built on marsh, and was rain forest until recently. We are coming to the end of the rainy season now, and some days we have more rain than the uk sees in a month. Being an ex builder I know about water content, I would still recomend only painting for the first year in a new property.
