I have had a good day with the cab. I had thought the other day I finished most of the high temp soldering. But I managed to fing loadsto do at the cab end. You get there in the end though.

I have done the cab roof, including the the roof ventilator. I added the the handles to the inside of it, and also what I presume is the roof mounted whistle lever.

Inside the cab I mounted the reverser, I am not sure it is how the designer plan it but it is in there. Also mounted on the floor is the rocking grate levers and the damper controls. The seats where then added. As each piece is added I try the backhead in there. I want to be able to get it in and out for painting.

On with the backhead. I have looked at quite a few photo's. There does not seem to be two cabs alike. So I picked one and copied that. It did not help by having so many bits in the kit of parts that I had. There must be almost four locos worth of some bits and two of others, good for the stock box but not forsorting out a backhead you knew nothing about. Again as each part was fitted I tried it for size. I was amazed how much they actually put inside the cab. I only had one gauge so I made two more and a mounting plate for the firemans side. Well it is done and it goes in, but I am not sure I want to try when it is painted, it's tight.

A few more cast white metal fittings to go on the body and then it is time to get the tender finished. I amd quite looking forward to doing that as it is so very close to being done.

That it does. The backhead is slightly narrow, but that actually is a bonus or it would have to be fix in the cab to be built. I was very pleased with it myself. Often it is so difficult to get a decent backead and all the imformayion on what went where. I think it is more important too on tender engines.

Looking good, how will you fix the backhead? Will it still be deatachable or go in at the last and be permanently glued?

Thanks,

Once all is painted, I will put a dab of epoxy on the back and glue it in. I just like them removable while painting it is so much easier with it flat on the bench.
