  1. Those grilles make a huge difference to how it looks. Really looking forward to seeing it finished now!
  2. A couple more from me that I took the other day. A 31 trundling through Devon with a brake van: And another 31 heading some cement tankers from Barnstaple to Exeter Riverside:
  3. A few photos from this evenings playing operating session. 😉 A gloomy day in North Devon… 33008 captures the evening light as it slows for a stop at Lapford: Bright summer sunshine as a Dutch 37 shunts the yard at Lapford.
  4. That’s really helpful thanks Duncan. I’ve had difficulties using some of the detail pack stuff before with locos, in the end I’ve tended to use some part from various packs and then made up my own pipes from fine wire. It’s probably not perfect but it works at first glance!
  5. The fine detail is amazing. I do have a couple of questions actually… 1) Where do you source all of the bufferbeam equipment (ETH boxes etc)? Is it stuff that you’ve made yourself or can you actually buy it from somewhere? 2) How did you go about plating over the old steam heat filling port and other small details that needed filling? Any advice much appreciated.
  6. I can’t remember what the last few things I posted in this thread were, but looking through the photos on my phone I found a few that I don’t think I’ve used before. I’ve gone a bit early toothpaste livery crazy recently… And a couple from my friends railway (but with my stock). 37035 rescuing a failed class 50 somewhere on the edge of Dartmoor.
  7. My stepbrother sent me this lovely commemorative mug that he designed the other day. I’m not sure if this particular range is likely to catch on though…
  8. I was just looking through my emails to see if I’d said that to them but I think I might have spoken to them on the phone. One of my Farish 47s made a shorting sound and packed up a few weeks ago (my current repair bills are getting up near BR in the 1980s at the moment!) but from what I remember I was listening to something on my headphones at the time so it might have shorted out but I wouldn’t have heard it. I have found the email explaining what they had to do: Worn primary gears… As I said, this loco had not had a great deal of use. Probably a couple of evenings a week doing a few circuits of the layout.
  9. Not just us then. Yes I think I did mention actually. I thought it would be interesting to see if this had been a problem with a few people but maybe we were just unlucky? I’ve got one of the earlier 6 pin ones (33102) and dare I say it, it’s probably one of my most reliable locos and if I was going to get another one I’d be tempted with an earlier model.
  10. Evening everyone. A few months ago my model of 33008 packed up and apart from the lights nothing would work on either DC or DCC. Unfortunately it was also out of warranty by then. I didn’t really want to take it to bits to see if I could work out was wrong with it because I think I’d have probably made things worse. So I sent it to DCC Supplies and they diagnosed it as the motor needed replacing, that cost me £57 plus posting it to them. Last night having a running session on my friends railway his model of 33042 packed up with exactly the same symptoms, won’t work on DC or DCC (and yes of course, it has also just run out of warranty). Neither of us are competent enough to start stripping the loco down to see what’s wrong so it will also have to be sent away to DCC Supplies for them to have a look at. Neither loco has been run an excessive amount and both have been cared for so I’m at a bit of loss. Has anyone else had a similar experience with these particular models? Nick
  11. It is one of those isn’t it? Although it sort of looks like it’s still got seats in it. The caption on Flickr says that it’s on a Red Star working.
  12. Really looking forward to seeing how you go about this Duncan. Will you be replicating the way 45036 seems to be looking to the side? Actually there’s a photo online where the dots look even more wonky but it might look a bit strange in model form!
  13. Nice bit of weathering actually…
  14. Yes it’s pretty busy down there these days! One thing I’ve never been able to find is a photo of the old Alphington Road goods depot (near to where Iceland and Aldi are now). Never seen a picture of it anywhere…
  15. Especially when 1980s vehicles are not that easy to find in this scale!
  16. In my imagination it looked a bit like that John.
