  1. Scorrier foot crossing in Cornwall when I was very little. I remember Peaks and pre refurbished 50s there but also at Penzance and Redruth. It’ll always be Dawlish for me though. On the beach, on the station, on the bridge, feeding the ducks in the river etc. I said my first word - “Train!” on the station platform (my poor mother was not particularly happy about that)…
  2. It looks amazing. The fine detail around the canopies (as well as everywhere else actually) is wonderful!
  3. Great to hear this and thanks for the update.
  4. Thanks. I didn’t see the caption originally but I think I can see where that is now.
  5. @Andrew P - Congratulations. Mine is in next months RM too! Quite excited I must say… My friend Pauls railway (Moors View) was on the cover of the January edition of RM and I just asked him if it was alright to post a couple of photos from last weeks running session that I tinkered around with earlier: (He said yes obviously!)
  6. What a photo. Any idea where exactly that was taken? I must admit that I didn’t realise Light Pacific’s were used on those workings.
  7. We took my stepdaughters best friends dog ‘Scrappy’ (part Staffy, part Labrador, part Ford Transit) out for a walk along the Teign estuary last week. In the photo below he’d charged at a couple of seagulls by the water and they’d watched him with amusement as he got slower and slower and then stopped and turned around once he’d realised that the mud was like treacle! And then we had to put him in the car…
  8. A very impressive local Porthleven celebrity sitting on my warm car bonnet this afternoon… He’s an impressive lad isn’t he?
  9. Or the whole of the south west peninsula in N gauge! Mmm….
  10. Really sorry to hear this. Get well soon sir. We’re all thinking of you.
  11. I grew up totally obsessed with railways and model railways. My father is to blame for this as he’s a straight up railway obsessive too and much of my childhood was spent on trains, plus he always had a model railway of some sort on the go. Scroll forward to when I had children and to be honest it was difficult to do anything model railway related when they were little (toddlers) because it was just so full on, although I did go all out on the Brio (or any cheaper versions I could find)! My advice to the op would be to stick to the Brio at the moment but for your own sanity try and get a little project going for you to tinker with of an evening that’ll fit on a shelf somewhere when you’re busy doing other things. Maybe even something like a loco shed diorama that can be incorporated into a layout in the future, as that time will come soon enough but don’t wish away these precious moments when they’re little because once it’s gone it’s gone and as you get older you realise what a short amount of time it was. I built a 00 gauge railway in the loft when the kids were still young (my youngest was 5) and with supervision at first I’d get them involved, but they had their own trains to use on it which were older 1980s stuff that I’d picked up cheap at car boot sales or been given by friends that were clearing their old attics out etc. By the time he was 8 my youngest could put my 16 wheeled Bachmann Peak on the track, hook up about twenty wagons and get it all running smoothly without damaging anything whatsoever and I’m sure it did his hand eye coordination wonders.
  12. That’s helpful thanks Roy. I’ve been trying to find a video of how to do this but no joy yet. The fact that there’s no soldering required makes things somewhat easier than I was thinking it would be.
  13. Afternoon everyone. This seems like the best place to post this. The last time I used my Farish class 47 (47209) it made a slight electrical popping sound and then stopped dead. I’ve just had a look at it now finally and swapped the DCC decoder for another one that I know works and it still won’t move although the lights are working as they should. I’m not really of the ability to strip the thing apart (actually no. I could strip it apart no problem but I doubt I could put it back together again!). What would be the best course of action here, would anyone be able to recommend someone to send it off to or should I look at buying a new chassis from Bachmann? Just to add that it won’t work on DC either by the way. Any advice much appreciated. Nick
  14. I haven’t got the book but I have seen that photo in my friends copy… Really must get it actually, I’ll have a look to see if it’s available somewhere.
  15. A couple of log shunting (that doesn’t sound right ) photos from me:
  16. Yes definitely and thanks everyone.
  17. Thanks Cameron. You’re absolutely right about that. Nick
  18. Evening everyone. I don’t want this to be a moment to be sad, it’s more a celebration of a wonderful long life actually… Our dear old Collie Springer cross - Kai passed away this morning in his sleep in front of the fire at home. He was 16 but he’d been a bit doddery this year and then suddenly went downhill over Christmas. In the end we made him comfortable and he went out gently in his own home which is definitely what he would have wanted. It’s not been an easy day (or week actually) but I’m glad it played out this way. He was the best boy you could have ever met. Just an absolutely wonderful lad. Here he is in better days enjoying one of his favourite preserved 37s (he’s the one on the right). He always was a bit partial to English Electric! RIP Kai 2006 - 2022
  19. Lovely models, I’m very taken taken with the Volvo F10 I must say. Thanks for the advice, I think I’ll get a couple of things and report back. Not promising that I’ll achieve the standards you’ve attained on here mind!
  20. Afternoon everyone. I’m just working my way back through this fantastic thread (I really don’t know why I haven’t looked at properly before actually) and I was wondering if anyone produced something like a classic 1980s/90s Scania 112 or a Volvo 10 Turbo 6 (F10) tractor unit and trailer in N gauge? I’m very taken with the Ford Cargo because that fits in perfectly with my era and I used to work on the things when I was an HGV apprentice at British Road Services. As an aside we used to service all the Lynx lorries that were based in our yard at Exeter and they had a large fleet of Leyland Terriers - which required copious amount of Easystart on a winter’s morning!
  21. Ok thanks. I really need an illuminated magnifier actually, I’ll order one today and maybe a couple cars as well.
  22. Do you mind me asking what method you’ve used for painting these tiny vehicles? I model 1980s era N gauge and I wouldn’t mind getting a couple of the cars mentioned a few posts earlier (the Maestro appeals to me), but they don’t half look fiddly to paint! Nick
