  1. All working really well for me on my clunky old iPhone now. I’ve even got back the ‘Content I posted in’ link. Thanks @AY Mod and the team. My heart went out to you a couple of weeks ago when things weren’t going too well!
  2. I really love that idea. I can’t remember who the guest was now but my previous favourite choice on Desert Island Discs was when someone asked for a bath with three taps for their luxury item. The taps were for: Hot water. Cold water. Red wine…
  3. Not sure. I assumed out near Hereford direction when I first saw it but I don’t recognise the location at all.
  4. Yes I know as I’ve got it. That’s why I said this…
  5. I think she’s just standing in for Sue Lawley.
  6. I don’t know if I could do a top ten very easily, but I’d have to save my collection of all the original Rev W Awdry stories in the one book. So when Lauren says “if a big wave comes in and you could only save one book*, which one would you save?” It would definitely be that one and if I lost it to the sea I’d probably burst into tears and shout “Wilson!!” at the top of my voice for some reason that I wouldn’t quite understand. (*So why ask me to pick the rest of them then if you’re going to snatch them away from me? And how long have I got with the rest of the books? A day? A decade? I can’t live like this Lauren!)
  7. Happy new year everyone (yes I know it’s a bit late). First off I’d like to pay a brief tribute to @bgman - Grahame though. I haven’t been a member of rmweb for very long compared to many of you on here but Grahame had been incredibly supportive of what I’ve been trying to achieve here, and you only have to look back through this thread to see his measured and wonderfully humorous contributions… He was an absolute gent and his warmth (along with others) helped to make me feel a part of this community and I very much thank him for that. Much missed but never forgotten sir. you were a class act… ———————————————— I made a little video last night and posted it on YouTube… Some of the captions fly by a little bit too quickly, and in all honesty I’m starting to scrape the barrel a bit here because really it’s the making of the layout that does it for me actually. Here’s the video anyway. Hope you enjoy it: A future change of living situation (and a recent engagement!) may mean that I have a new project on the go later this year (of which more information to come), but hopefully you’ll enjoy these clips for what they are (just a bit of fun basically). Nick
  8. Hmm interesting. I wonder if someone local like @Ramblin Rich might remember?
  9. No it’s on the opposite side of town really (Cowick Street). Re Paris Street - I wonder if you’re thinking of the long gone Pram & Toy Shop (or Tram and Boy shop as my father called it)? I think they might have had railway stuff in the window possibly?
  10. My other half photographed this random arrangement in a jewellery shop window in Exeter the other day. The 68 was running backwards and forwards as well…
  11. In the spirit of thread here’s a couple more that I’ve found on the phone tonight. I’ve gone monochrome with a couple of these just because it gives a little more atmosphere. Bodmin General a few years ago at a soggy gala: An unusual visitor to Exeter these days and even in the old days it would have been in a different platform and livery! Minehead a few years ago. Invoking the feeling of a summer Saturday at the seaside:
  12. It’s all polystyrene with a layer of ballast and PVA over the top really Rich…
  13. A couple of photos that I’ve just found looking through the phone. A CAF jobbie at Bangor, Northern Ireland: A 153 crossing the Lune in 2017 (it was incredibly hot that day): The opposite! A pair of 159s in the snow at Exeter:
  14. 08953 was often around Exeter. Hmm. No food for a month or a new shunter..?
  15. The Scotrail liveried mk2 that ended up with Intercity (5813 was it?) makes an appearance around 5.35 in as well.
  16. I’ve increasingly become a fan of DMUs (especially 1st generation ones) over the years and I think it’s because they represent the mundane day to day stuff that we only realise has disappeared years later. This thread is excellent and I’ve worked my through the whole thing now. My offerings this evening (for what it’s worth) are: Red Cow crossing, Exeter (a fairly recent but never to be repeated scene). A moment captured at Alton. A bit fuzzy but I liked it: On the East Lancs at the 2017 DMU gala: Also at the East Lancs: Good boy Thumper action!
  17. Some great weathering there and I agree with you both about the 33s, they were generally kept in fairly good nick compared to locos from other regions.
  18. I love this. It’s got an amazing main line feel.
  19. Hi Andy. I’ve kept this page open for a couple of days and read through it from the beginning to the end now. It’s been really interesting reading all of it and having only properly got into N gauge about three years ago I appreciate threads like this because it shows what can be done with this scale. It reminds me of my very early childhood in Cornwall in the 1970s I must say. Thanks for explaining your methods, I might come back and ask some questions at some point! Nick
  20. Would they also have been useful because of the extra wheel visibility due to the lack of running boards perhaps?
