  1. Guy's What is your favourite class 37 I would go for 37401 I remember class 37/4's on the Sleeper trains from the mid 90's until mid 2000's 401 was a regular and I have been on a few railtours with 401 as well and glad she has been saved. Mention must also go to 37099 and 37403. Dave
  2. Rob This is looking really good that Transrail 37 looks good despite the Welsh name it was once a regular up here in Scotland and i seen it many times it would look good with some Regional Railways coaching stock trains to Southport Blackpool and North Wales often had 37's on this type of working. regards Dave
  3. Jim A great looking layout here I have seen your down at the tracks thread but to my shame I didn't realise you had model railways too. You have certainly captured the look and feel of the current railway with all those colourfull locos. Is a Colas 37 and 60 on the way soon? Regards Dave
  4. All Thanks for the replies I shall use wagons I have as a passing train rather than delivering bulk powder to factory on my layout Regards Dave
  5. All I am looking for some info on these wagons i know these wagons are used for cement/bauxite and sometimes chemicals i have some grey model PCA and Metalair tanks but have only seen pics of these with either cement or bauxite. The question is was it only the the purple Albright and Wilson PCA's that ever carried chemicals. I am building a new layout and want to use these wagons for chemicals or bulk powder other than cement or bauxite. many thanks Dave
  6. I have also heard Colas 37's are for a Welsh contract but just out of interest the Cambrian line the Oban Malliag and Kyle lines are all routes where heavier locos are banned think they are RA 5 or 6 Kind regards
  7. Hi Jim Great pics thanks for sharring bet you cant wait to get your hands on 37175 confirmed as being sold to Colas below on her final runs at Boness winter diesel gala regards Dave
  8. Hi Wayne Good luck with this the Scottish MOD traffic was varied and had an upturn in 1991 because of 1st Gulf War Regards Dave

  10. Guys Shameless plug here but if Thornton Yard is included in Kirkcaldy area then I am building an N Gauge layout inspired by Thornton as it was in the 1990's just as EWS took over and there was an upturn in traffic please take a look http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/76867-strathore-yard/ Regards Dave
  11. 12. Hi all Great topic love seeing all those industrials from the tiny ones to the beasts that they have at steelworks speaking of which Staplegrove works looks amazing I have searched on RMweb can't find a link tho please can somebody point me in the right direction. Regards Dave
  13. Hi all Forgot to post a link http://www.ontracks.co.uk/index.php?page=product&prodID=188124&catID=&fromSearch=true Kind regards Dave
  14. Hi all Not sure if this is a HBS but looks like a useful set at a good price! Kind regards Dave
  15. Hi Jez Sounds good when I seen the pic of the HST passing it could be Port Talbot or Llanwern steelworks in the 1980's Looking forward to seeing more pix Regards Dave
  16. Hi Mr Pix What a fantastic layout really gives the feel of a large steelworks. The bridge and inclines are good recently I have been researching Ravenscraig steelworks not for modelling purposes but it had a bridge to gain access to it as well as railways on steep inclines some of the site was on different levels to others! There are DVDs called Railfreight today from late 80's early 90's that feature all the BR regions and all the big steelworks are featured. Hope this helps you have a great layout there hope to see some class 37's on iron ore workings! Kind regards Dave
  17. Hi all Diesel -Class 37 every line is perfect the bonnet nose and round cab especially in Large logo blu Prototype DELTIC is a close second. Electric-class 87 just something about the angular lines and wide cab windows. DMU-class 101 even the humble unit can be beautiful. Steam-Mallard sleek and beautiful in blue.
  18. Hi All A wonderfulll topic some fantastic pictures and yes it is hard to imagine why more photographers were active in the Kirkcaldy area when there was so much happening! The area also is very rarely if ever modelled. I hope to redress that as a result of reading this topic (it was me that started the other thread for info on the Kirkcaldy harbour railway.) I had however changed my mind because of a switch to n gauge but after seeing the new class 20 with snowplows i think a Kirkcaldy harbour inspired layout could be on the cards i am also now keeping my OO gauge diorama layout and some stock including class 06 most of this stock would be suitable for a new diorama or micro layout, kind regrads Dave
  19. HI A great layout gives the atmosphere of Wigan Wallgate good luck with the project regards Dave
  20. has just bought first n gauge wagon my foray into n gauge begins now

  23. Hi all I am all for modelling the BR blue period happend totally by accident tho I had always modelled the mid 1990's to the present day as this is when I grew up. However I decided I needed a class 26 for my Muirness layout was going to go for the dutch liveried one but spotted a bargin on one of the box shiffters websites and duly purchased 26024 in BR blue (always a good performer at Boness diesel galas) I got the loco and two BR blue MK2 coaches for less than 90 quid and that was the start of my BR blue modeling! In addition a house move led me to using my Inverknowes Yard layout for the first time this was meant to be a diorama but with the addition of a small board it was fully operational again this was intended to be a mid 1990's early 2000's layout but I found the modern locos class 56,60,66 just too large when shuntting wagons the shorter wheelbased class 20 and class 26 both in BR blue were perfect for the task I have just got a class 06 as well and have purchesed some BR 16t minerals. Nothing looks better than a single class 20 nose first with an open wagon OBA,OCA and a brake van!!!!!!!!!!!!!! regards Dave

  25. Hi all Have some info on these workings many BOC plants were next to the major steelworks Motherwell, Scunthorpe, Middlesbrugh, Sheffield. The way steel is made in the Uk is basic OXYGEN steel - making these works use massive amounts of oxygen and other gases produced by BOC such as argon for welding/cutting steel etc. Liquid Nitrogen is often used in the electronics industry for coating solder in making printed circut boards. regards Dave
