  1. Agreed the green livery is great this time round. It’s a very smooth runner with none of the wobble of the first batch. Servicing looks easier too as there’s a revised keeper plate giving access to the gears.
  2. The Peco pocket can be cut off with a sharp knife and the chassis base filed flat to receive the Dapol pocket. The axles can be popped out with a screwdriver and very easily replaced, should you wish to remove them; a nice new design feature.
  3. My attempt to fit Dapol NEM couplings was unsuccessful, even with a ‘horizontal’ pin cut off. Looks like it’s going to have a conversion pocket installed. Disappointing to say the least. Nice wagon though and not as crude as I was led to believe from the enlarged close-ups.
  4. I’ve cut off the small piping ‘tail’ at the Bo end of my 28s and all seems well. They negotiate code 55 crossovers and small radius points with no problem, hauling 11 of the de-weighted (1 weight only) wagons.
  5. Talking of 47s, a green FYP one would be good.
  6. A look at the couplings will show you what I mean. The shaft that goes into the pocket could be termed the ‘vertical’!
  7. Some adjustment of back-to-backs was necessary on my rake. Empty running was transformed after this was done. I expect some empty test-running was done before they first entered service; that pristine bauxite finish wouldn’t have lasted long. Now where’s the airbrush?
  8. If only these were available in N gauge! I’m surprised there’s no mention so far of the ‘Anglo-Scottish Car Carrier’ livery. I saw some of those at Barking in the 60s en route to Dagenham, so they must have been employed for trade deliveries, probably during the winter months. I think they must have been in a mixed rake with Carflats.
  9. I fitted my 3 Co-Bos with all 4 discs each at one end only while I wait for the pva to dry. Each was placed into a Peco or similar cradle and secured with a rubber band. I used my strongest glasses and held the cradle under a bright light while dipping the disc in a blob of glue in a saucer and fixing with tweezers. Not a job to lose any sleep over!
  10. Don’t worry, all my stock has easi-shunts or nemcoups and nothing got broken. Just bear in mind that Farish coaches are difficult and you may need to cut some ‘horizontals’ off the couplings to get them to fit the pockets.
  11. Well said Benn. I hope Rapido are reading these posts!
  12. I’ve left just one weight in each container; now the eleven wagons are comfortably hauled by one loco. Why they fitted three weights is a mystery to me.
  13. It ran with Stove Rs, Stanier and BR BGs. Not the goods type vans as it ran at 75mph in some locations.
  14. Further research shows the floor of the Rapido container can be levered out with a sharp knife; this reveals 3 weights which can be unscrewed from the floor. This means that 0,1 or 2 weights can be fitted back according to your requirements.
  15. The much lighter Farish containers can be substituted, providing they are secured with adhesive. ( The Rapido ‘boxes’ have ‘pips’ which locate in holes on the wagon.) The kinematic mechanism results in a larger than desirable gap between wagons; my usual coupling swap with short Dapol buckeyes results in a bigger gap than with the supplied rapidos!
  16. Although there are running issues, these wagons, when empty, do highlight the need for a similar quality FFA/FGA original Freightliner set.
  17. There’s no doubt lubrication does help, combined with easing out of the w-irons. The weight of the BD containers is an issue too.
  18. Received my Conflat Ps today. There’s an awful lot of rolling resistance despite the incorporation of brass bearings; so much that one 28 won’t pull eleven wagons and a Stove brake van. Maybe some oil will help?
  19. Not sure what you mean by that Roger. Can you clarify please.
  20. We could do with one of these in N gauge.
  21. I think OO tension locks are much worse than N rapidos! My answer is to fit the Dapol buckeyes and Easi-shunts as appropriate. They perform well, look discreet and are readily available.
  22. Hopefully some air-bra led vans will follow.
  23. Agreed the open is a huge omission by Farish . The BR pallet van would be very welcome too.
