  1. I’ll go against the grain here and say that there was some damn good stuff on the Bachman sales stand - Robinson O4 locos for £60, a Lord Nelson for the same and a couple of standards knocking about for about £40 off of RRP - which was not matched elsewhere in the hall as far as I could see. They were also disposing of Windhoffs for £40 each, so the bargains were there but I do tend to agree that they had to be sought out rather vigorously To be honest I couldn’t find anything to tickle my fancy, but I shall hunt a bit more today
  2. The stand by the door is most civilised, the ‘money off’ stand near the fish and chip place at the back has the dignity of a pie fight
  3. APT is definitely one of the announcements, I think the other one is a Stobart livery for the 92
  4. It's just a plain nice model - I have the NCb one, and as far as I'm aware (although I could be wrong) it's completely fictional. it just looks like a damn good model
  5. I'll be at Warley for both days, so I'm looking forward to this
  6. Okay guys, we get it, Dave’s way of operating isn’t the particular cup of tea for a lot of you - but is it not possible for him to do anything without being given criticism about the way he is doing things? Do I want Daves models to come out faster / include more engines / not be crowdfunded because this erodes my ‘confidence’ / be here right now this second / waaaahh etc? Yes I do. Do any of us have the faintest idea of how to run a model railway manufacturing business? Nope. Dave’s pocket can’t produce more than he is producing. The little knowledge I do have of these processes is that we are now talking close to £200k for a model of a loco, and £100k for a wagon in each scale, particularly if tooling variations are required. So instead of making us wait until he has the cash free (which frankly could be at least a couple of years), he’s offered the model to us and ASKED us to fund it - if we don’t like it we don’t have to sign up do we? There is no risk to our money whatsoever and we get our model much sooner and cheaper than if we waited for it to hit the shelves. Anyway, rant over. And a question too - did any of these run over NCB metals or pass into NCB ownership? I’d like to have them being shunted by ancient(ish) steam engines on my NCB layout (planned) and I want to know if that’s a silly thing
  7. Ah, she was black when i last saw her and I hadn't heard anything about the new livery. Fair enough, I stand corrected

    Bachmann Skarloey

Hey, Was wondering if anyone had a model of the Bachmann Skarloey going surplus to requirements. Preferably untouched, but i'd be happy to consider a redecorated or otherwise 'messed about' model provided that it still runs and has the complete body on it. Thanks
  9. I think that that hits the nail on the head, preserved lines are not too popular as subjects because there are so few good models out there. Of course there are exceptions, but whenever I have personally seen a model of a preserved line it has been an after thought excuse to justify running some pretty shoddy models in an unconvincing setting. they almost all look like train sets and not model railways, the only two I have ever seen (in magazines, never in person) are the model of Horsted Keynes on here and a fictional N Gauge preserved railway (name escapes me) which focus on being good models.
  10. Hornby did a Stepney model in their Thomas & Friends Range. They are reasonably common, reasonably sheap and reasonably detailed: http://pufferwillies.co.uk/uk2ecommerce/product/hornby_thomas_friends_r9750_oo_scale_stepney_-_limited_production/ There are a bunch of cottage industries out there that will do a few add on parts to make the model 'yours' (mainly by removing the face and putting a smokebox door on instead. There is also a box set with Stepney in her current livery of lined black: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-R2891-Bluebell-Railway-Pack-NEW-00-gauge-1-76-scale/391916029093?hash=item5b400404a5:g:WHsAAOSwz~pZ95ej

    Ask Dave

But I wanna know now!! WAAAHAAHAHAH!!
  12. Okay, just out of curiosity did any of these run on NCB metals at any point?
  13. So now that the show is over, can someone please tell me what the announcement was?
  14. Ian Allen birmingham has two C class in black and sunshine lettering for £75 and two Super D locos in LMS black for £70 plus various farish locos all discounted. Plus you can get Warley tickets there at advance ticket prices
  15. lest we forget the vast quantities of Hunslet 'austerities' that ended up in industrial use, as well as a number of panniers which ended up with the NCB And if we are extending it to diesels: -Class 17 sold to Ribble Cement -Class 14 sold to various contractors and were used to build HS1 among other operations -Class 20 still in industrial use today, also used to help construct HS1 -Class 08 often used as yard shunters for industrial complexes
  16. All engines come pre-fitted with a speaker, which should cut down on the complexity of sound installation. Have just expanded my pre-order to include both 778 and 'Hummy'
  17. There might be a difference here between what the seller actually accepts and what the payment page SAYS he accepts - this sounds like a good old fashioned computer error to me, the site has gone haywire. Contact the seller and ask him to see if he has received the cash, and double check your own finances to make sure that it didn’t do anything that you might currently be unaware of . Otherwise, you may have to contact eBay or Paypal over the phone (it’s helpful to have a punching bag nearby) to double check everything
  18. It looks to me like the number has been cleaned, the edges of the rectangle are not square and the overall look of the bodyside is of a slight covering of track dust
  19. Have there been any announcements or updates on this project?

    Hornby discounts

I still fully expect Hornby to have stuff available at a steep discount in the black friday sales in about a month.
  21. May be worth looking into what regulations cover this and what recourse is open to you with the financial conduct authority and he financial ombudsman.
  22. Yes, I think the point that can best be made here to Blundellmodeller is summed up in the acronym IBIS I RAIL I built it, so I run anything I like. The layout is ultimately for you, so remember to build it for you. If you want kingscote in 8x4 then go for it
  23. 1. Foam roadbed can be made to look very good. thin layers of cork ballastd with woodlands scenic ballast can also look very good. It's your personal preference really 2. Fiddle yard is another case of personal preference. A lot of the time its just pinned straight to the trackbed, but I've also known them to be ballasted as well. No real difference between the two 3. Thin modellers plywood is often used, because it can be made into smooth shapes easily 4. there are loads of pictures around of kingscote station - it may be worthwhile having a go at scratchbuilding it yourself, or wait for Bachmann to produce a ready to plant resin building, theyve already done sheffield park 5.Power the layout in your own way, that way you can troubleshoot any problems nice and easily. Electrofrog points can be bought from peco 6. Ballast at the bluebell is a lightish grey colour, woodlands scenics do a modern looking ballast that looks the part to me: https://woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/Item/BAL-GB/page/1
  24. Okie dokie, i'll give it another go later on. As I said, it wasnt a comment meant to complain, but to let you guys know about a potential problem
  25. quick point - I've just tried to pre-order one of these J70s from the model rail offers website, but it isn't accepting my credit card. I've just preordered the railmotor from kernow as well, so I know that the Kernow 'home' website is working okay. Not a source of annoyance for me, I'll still buy one - I just wanted to point it out in case something needs to be looked at on the MR offers website
