  1. List the features you are interested in (what catches your eye at exhibitions? What grabs you when you read a magazine or a book) and determine how you can get it. For me: quirkiness, slightly run down atmosphere, weathering and unusual locomotives mean that I tend to model NCB layouts post 1969 (with a little flexibility in the dates) and 009 of practically any period (my layouts are multi era) Sky’s the limit and it’s entirely personal to you
  2. The quality of the mechanics in all of the Bachmann 009 (officially HON30 in this case) is extremely high. No problems on that front
  3. It is well worth the investment to buy Kato equipment. One of my better investments was the oval with passing loop and controller - extremely high quality everything
  4. Sorry, nope. Was planning to pick up one of the first batch and work from there.
  5. I’m planning to do a 3D printed kit to convert this model to a reasonable reapresentation of ‘Midlander’ ina. Similar vein to my Rheneas/Dolgoch kit. However, the Bachman model is definitely on the toy side of things, rather than the scale models of Rheneas & Skarloey, those looking for a perfect scale model of the TR diesel are likely to be a little disappointed
  6. I smell management... Specifically in one of those meetings where you aren’t allowed to tell people that their ideas are stupid
  7. I do wish that they’d just make a series with talking trains and call it something other than Thomas the Tank. Purists and casual viewers alike would then be satisfied
  8. Not aware that it’s been dropped. DJ Models have just had a new website put up and something could have been missed in the set up.
  9. I had this scenario from the other end of things. Made the mistake of actually getting in a tram in Nottingham without buying a ticket (as you can on literally every other transport system in the country) and was rather humiliatingly hauled off halfway to my destination. I was perfectly willing to buy a ticket (and did so the first chance I could). After giving all of my details, they got my house number wrong. Fortunately I was in a position to correct it then and there (and the fact that I did seemed to surprise them immensely), but it just goes to show that the person who is here could be neither a fare dodger not a swindler. I managed to spot and correct the issue before it caught someone else, but I’ve always been weird like that...
  10. Nice look new site Dave - looks very good on mobile I would populate the site with your products ASAP though. At the moment, I can only see the APT, King, Q6 and Hudswell Clark in OO
  11. To return to the point, do we have any news yet about when the new site will be up? I’m rather looking forward to seeing it
  12. That’s funny I was watching that and wondering if I could possibly do one watch this space lol (probably for quite a while tbh)
  13. its been 9am for four seconds and I dont know. I wanna know
  14. VoR 2-6-2 or a double fairlie. I’d stake my lunch money on it. (The secret to this is that I work a night shift )
  15. These things happen, and in comparison to some technology problems in the news this one isn’t so bad
  16. Maybe someone from model rail here could say if these are the previously announced tank engines or something else?
  17. Hi there guys, I've been busy with a great deal of stuff over the past few weeks, not the least of which was losing my job and having a tooth filling go seriously wrong on the same day . However, I have a few bits and pieces on the way for my shapeways shop that I'd like to share with you. First off, my first O9 locomotive kit - a heywood 0-6-0 which can be used to represent 'Ella', 'Shelagh' or 'Ursula' Kit is available at this link The kits comes as one piece and is designed to drop stright on to a graham farish 08 outside framed chassis.Valve gear and cylinder arrangements are left to the preference of the individual buyer My second kit is another resident of the R&ER - the ICL no.1 'Bunny' Available at this link. I've designed the loco to have the maximum amount of internal space possible, to allow for scratch build detail and the widest variety of possible donor chassis. That's all for this update (there is now a Warhammer section of the shop, but I doubt that that will be of interest to a great many of you) but I do hope to have another loco and several items of rolling stock finished off in the not too distant future. I've also been working on a big project which could be exceptionally useful for a great many modellers. As always ideas/comments are welcome. And another thank you to those people who have taken the plunge and bought my items - I hope they've satisfied you
  18. If the payment system asked for a credit card, the funds may have been pre-authorised (which may show as either a debit or a pending transactoon) but if they have been then the funds will either be returned or made available in the next few days. Shops often use this as a form of security to make sure that if they are reserving something for someone, they actually have the means to pay for it. Don’t known if this is how RoS works, but it has happened for me in several shops so I wouldn’t be surprised
  19. I may be making some bunkum up about how BR loaned one to the NCB as a test of its abilities as an industrial loco
  20. New product for sale on my shapeways shop - Bruce Peebles / Ganz PB&SSR electric locomotives. Although the engines never ran in real life, they are a popular source of interest for WHR modellers and so I thought that there would be a few people who might want to have one running about on their layout as a sort of curiosity. https://www.shapeways.com/product/P4EE7CR2R/pb-ssr-electric-box-cab-loco The engine has been designed to simply drop on to the Kato 11-104 chassis and I've also run up three different types of pantograph for the engine, which are also now available in my shop. Hope you are all enjoying my designs and I'd just like to say thank you again to all of you who buy them. As always, please ask any questions you like, on here or by PM - I'll be happy to be of help
  21. I have a saintly friend who agreed to come with me to the NEC last year so as not to waste a ticket that I’d bought for someone else who couldn’t come. She was a sport (as she was visibly pregnant at the time) and I must say that for the most part people were extremely accommodating and kind towards her and by extension, me. Crowds in front of layouts parted and I even got a big discount on a 1F at the Bachmann stand (I think the sales guy assumed she was my gf/wife and thought that this was there last thing I’d get to buy for a very long time) and she played the part of a doting girlfriend perfectly when she decided it was necessary (her choice, not mine ) Now this lady has absolutely no interest in model trains but knew how to appreciate hard work when she saw it. However, she’s made me promise to take her and her daughter to Bekonscot in a few years, so maybe there is hope after all
  22. Well hello and welcome all to my new workbench, can't promise that it will be the most riveting read youve ever had but I'll try my best. I hope that the majority of what I put up here can be devoted to my 3D printing and its results. However my first entry here is actually about the delightful Andrew Barclay locomotives. I bought NCB black number 10 and was seriously impressed by the perfectly captured character of the real engines. I've always been a fan of grimy industrial steam engines with wasp stripes so I made a beeline for the Litte Barford example with a view to weathering it. Engine arrived well packed and very very quickly. After a test on a small loop of track, it was time to get to work with the fibreglass pencil, varnish and transfers: Being a wargamer I have a large quantity of games workshop paint products on hand and these were used to hide the transfer backing film on the microscale letters. A base of gloss varnish began the process and Lahmian Medium (for those who don't know, GW thematically names its paints) sealed the transfers and toned down the gloss effect to more of a satin finish. With the medium sealing the transfers as well as it did, I didnt really feel the need to varnish again So on to the weathering: IN this case, I cannot speak highly enough of the 'Nuln Oil' wash that GW offers, which is superb for representing accumulated muck. The Blistering on the smokebox was made by mixing two GW paints (Ryza Rust and Valhallan Blizzard) with a little Lahmian Medium and applying with a cocktail stick. Small amounts of tamiya weathering powder were used to represent track dust and GW praxeti white was used for the limescale. All in all, I'm very pleased by the final look, and hopefully it doesn't look too bad to the rest of you either Until next time...
  23. If’black dog’ is referring to what I think it is (Winston Churchill? Please let me know if I’m grabbing the wrong end of the stick here) then I suffer quite paralysing bouts of it from time to time. One of the things I do the get myself out of it is to force myself to pick up a model (usually games workshop but quite often a model train of some kind) and do something with it. Once it’s finished, I have achieved something. And a small victory like that is often times the building block to getting better again. So while the common view to outsiders is that I may be a few sandwiches short of a picnic for enjoying this hobby, it helps to keep me away from the people with the soft food and soft rooms
  24. Hey there, The letters are from the Microscale decals Navy style font Alphabet. There are lots of different sizes to use, and I’ve used the middle ones for the loco. The product code is ac48-0025
