  1. http://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/60s/610702ro.html The 'Dedicated' Corps Ribbon was enclosed in a raised frame, thereby needs to be represented as such, rather than Hornby's cabside tampo job.

  3. Cheers Peter. I wonder how far along the 442s' refurbishments are progressing at Eastleigh ?. It would be interesting to find out. All the best, Frank.
  4. An up-date. The rolling-stock refurbishment programme continues at Bournemouth (Branksome) Depot. Photos accredited to Son of Ceptic. Peter Kazmeirczak has another pic / more info in his post #640 on this thread page. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/121466-third-rail-emu-photos/page-26 Still no sign of a finished example of SWR's Cl.442 livery tho'. All the best, Frank.
  5. Many, many, thanks for taking your time to share these family memories with us David. It's been a joy to view the many pictures of places I have, yet, to visit. All the best and take it easy. Regards, Frank.

  10. Note the three lighter coloured casings on the right of the u/frame. These housed the propane gas cylinders. This conversion to propane, the gas being heavier than air, later necessitated the provision of floor level louvered vents. Comet's plan of the Tavern Car's u;/frame isn't entirely correct. As can be seen in this photo by Robert Carroll, https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4057/4448603854_cae1e64641_b.jpg some, if not all, of the 'Tavern' RKBs were converted to propane fuel before being rebuilt. P.S. Edit. Note also the change to the twin brake cylinder + vee hanger layout.
  11. Best remembered, most recently, as 'Greengrass' in 'Heartbeat'. Before that as 'Selwyn Froggitt'. Before that as 'The Gaffer'. Before that as 'Sgt. Beetroot' in 'Wurzel Gummidge'. These, interspersed with roles in numerous, typically British 'Carry On' films. I best remember him as as a stand up comic, during the days of black 'n' white tv, teamed up with another comic, turned actor, Dave King. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-43596854
  12. Yes, I do record that our Jeremy was in town, this day.
  13. Alan Carr ?. Looks more like Michael McIntyre. .
  14. I'd allwuz thought Gotham (City) wuz part o' Briztol. I'd allwuz tawt my kids such ! ?
  15. I try to avoid shopping at Tesco, Peter. At the very least, it can turn out to be 'An experience', I base this opinion on my rare 'encounters' with the store. My latest being during a shopping trip to Tesco, Castle Lane. Bournemouth. (I could elaborate, but, it's rather long winded)
  16. It would be presumptuous to say anything at this stage.
  17. The scene at Southampton (Central) this time last night, i.e. 03.00hrs. 02/03/2018. The ex- 21.39 W'loo-Weym'th, still with passengers on board, luckily (?) with lighting and heating. Trains backed-up and held at Brockenhurst, Southampton and maybe other stations after the 17.05 W'loo-Weym'th hit the ice covered juice rail on the embankment east of Christchurch. Passengers on this train had to endure an overnight stay without lights or heating until being rescued in the daylight by a 'purloined' Cl. 220 'Voyager' http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-43253130 P.S. S'funny how the MSM still refer to 'South West Trains'.
  18. Thanks Stephen. I had meant to add, in my post, that the gantry signal arms were lower quadrant, but forgot to. Cheers, Frank.
  19. Mornin' Roger et all, Further, to add my ha'peth's worth. Apart from the image shown as Plate 50 in Middleton's / Peter Hay's 'Steaming Through West Hants', we've got two reasonable photos of Bournemouth West station, (not junction) Signal box. Both are taken track-side from passing trains, One arriving B'm'th West and one departing, both Copyright. Apart from these, we've got the BTC 1962 Track / Building ground plan, but, alas, no detailed plans of the S/B itself, or photos from it's south side The Sketchup drawing of the box was derived from the BTC ground-plan plus the two C/R photos, i.e. by counting bricks, measuring height / length / width / perspective etc. In this respect, I cannot guarantee it's accuracy, but, it's the best that I can produce given the information to hand. One (or five) thing(s) that has(have) changed is the replacing of the multi-paned sliding widow frames with panels made up of three large horizontal panes. I'm in the process of altering the drawing to show this. Regarding the signal gantry, with it's six separate 'Home / Stop' arms, spanning all three tracks immediately west of the box. The most recent images (1926 ?) I have of this can be found at the bottom of page 25 of 'Southern Infrastructure 1922-1934' (Part 1), David Wallis & Noodle Books (Kevin Robertson), 2014, ISBN 978-1-909238-11-2, and Plate 6 within 'Bournemouth to Evercreech Junction', Middleton Press, 1987,ISBN 0-906520-46-0, This one also pictures the 'Mysterious Obelisk' adjacent to the cabin's entrance, showing that it had been there for quite some time. See Roger's earlier thread regarding the bracket signal which replaced the gantry. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/96259-bournemouth-west-signals/ All the best, Frank.
  20. Hi all. A question has arisen during conversations with friends as to whether said locomotive '35006' ever visited the Bournemouth area ?, either in original form or rebuilt ? The loco was Salisbury based throughout it's existence, and photos of it working the SR / BR(S)'s West of England main line are abundant. The thing is, I've got the loco underlined in my '63 ABC and I'm sure I've seen it at the Central station, but, without hard evidence (preferably photographic) I'm at a loss to prove my case. Can anybody help ?
  21. I'm off to check the depth of a local (round the corner) road's pot-hole. I'm sure it's got bigger since yesterday.
