  1. I had a very agreeable sausage bap from the burger van outside the venue for £3. Great to be at a big show again. Some super layouts, and I picked up a couple of good bargains. Graham
  2. We enjoyed it too, we were in Newcastle last week and we went up the castle tower so the whole railway area was fresh in the memory. Graham
  3. So, has anyone seen a 'Brocken spectre' at Brocken? I've seen a few in the UK, best place is on the Crib Goch ridge of Snowdon. Graham
  4. Well I (and many others) went to the Stafford toyfair on Sunday, the first since March 2020. I'd say it was a little quieter than pre-covid, but not much. Some punters and traders wore masks but most did not. The aisles at Stafford are narrower than Warley so you are in closer contact to many other people. The demographic of punters and traders at toyfairs is similar to model railway exhibitions. If lots of people were happy to enter that sort of environment, why not a model railway exhibition? Reading the posts above makes me wonder if those views represent the population at large? Graham
  5. Well I think you've got the balance about right, there is plenty of interest for both enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts. Graham
  6. If my geography is correct, the train is heading southbound, so presumably the royals haven't come straight from London by train.
  7. In a similar vein to other posters on here, both SWMBO and myself really enjoyed it and are looking forward to the rest of the series. Graham
  8. Not being savvy to finding out the timings of this train over the S&C, can anyone help me with the approx times the train might pass Ribblehead in each direction? Thanks Graham
  9. Thanks all, Apparently the friend (resident of Market Harborough) was visiting their son who lives in Brighton, so that explains it. Graham
  10. A friend gave me an unwanted camera yesterday but there were a few shots still on the memory card. One of the photos is 73082 Camelot, dated 9th May 2016 and I was wondering where it was taken. I could ask the friend if they remember but I thought it would be more fun to put it on here. Thanks in advance Graham
  11. I challenge anyone to devise a one way system at Warley. I've spent the last 20+ years trying to devise a logical route so I can see everything but the cunning randomness of the exhibits has beaten me every time. Graham
  12. Thanks everyone, I just hope they don't demolish the chimney when they develop the area for more housing. Graham
  13. We were in the Berwick area recently and could see this old chimney across the water in Spittal and wondered what industry it was used for. A visit to Spittal did not provide any further clues, and asking a few people nearby nor later Googling gave an answer. Does anyone on here know its history? Thanks in advance. Graham
  14. Is it my maths or does that timetable indicate a run of 3hr 53min?
  15. Visited today. At the moment you can't walk over the viaduct. We talked to someone who I think is a 'Friend of the Bennerley viaduct' and he said Sustrans still had to fix the planking before letting people on there. The approach walkways are well advanced but he said it would be autumn before opening. Graham
  16. Well, the building is still there, if not the railway. https://goo.gl/maps/YYUYUT92cnQpY4hp7 Graham
  17. The image above is from when it was stored outside the Tatra museum in Koprivnice. The canopy gave it a little protection from the weather. I stopped by in Oct 2019 but the unit had already been taken away for restoration. Graham
  18. We've been in Northumberland this week and the house next door has these items in the front window. I haven't seen any occupants (it may be a holiday cottage) to ask about the LNWR plate so can anyone say what it is please? Thanks Graham
  19. A couple from Blea Moor, August 2011. And one from the summit of Whernside Graham
  20. Thanks, I use to have an SLR with a variety of lenses, but there would not be a long tom amongst them if I went up the hills. As I got older I became fed up with carting around weighty and cumbersome gear so I invested in a travel zoom compact (Panasonic TZ-70) which weighs little and will fit in my trouser pocket. It gives a zoom range of 24-720 (in 35mm terms) and though it will not win any prizes for picture quality, it means I can always have a camera on me and I can get a shot of whatever is of interest, near or far. The best camera is the one you have with you. Graham
  21. These photos were taken from a walk on the Malvern hills today. This unit has just passed under the hills, heading north into Malvern; This has just left Malvern, heading north; Leaving Malvern, heading south; And approaching Colwall from the south; I can't positively ID the unit types but I'm sure others will be able to. Glorious day for walking today, not too warm but very little breeze, really made it feel like coming out of lockdown. Graham
  22. Or adding a toilet flush to the DCC sound package.
