  1. What's annoying me is they are saying blast furnaces are coal fired which they aren't. Also the woolly mammoth in the room is that electric arc steel is not suitable for the the manufacturer of car body panels So loosing our steel industry could also lead to the end of the foreign car plants here which also employ thousands As usual with this lot India benefits again 🤬 I won't comment again as it will become political
  2. The one that was at Sheringham that my much missed late friend had as GE models was dark wood colour
  3. They'd have been better using zero1 panels, might have looked neater! Not my favourite railway
  4. Datsun 180. Japanese cars of that era to me were quite strange, They didn't seem to have anything in common with European cars . I know its not but front end grille and lights appeared to be one huge moulding I'm glad some have survived and loved
  5. Morning Rich It's a very small world. I think Terry was more interested in the railway than he used to let on There is supposed to be a reunion this year, been a while since there was one but Dave used to go so hopefully if we have one he will be there so I will pass on your regards Cheers Russ
  6. Ah bless knew them well. Farouk was Bob Gibson great bloke, he had a mate Dave Atkinson who is still a signalman . Real shock when Terry went, he asked another signalman where I lived as great was going to have a holiday in Sheringham. As I lived there at the time we were going to have a beer but unfortunately it wasn't to be. Great bloke and true railwayman
  7. I lived in Guisborough, I worked at Thornaby from 83 to 97 regularly working trains through Brotton I still work into Tees dock quite often The museum is now land of iron. Just been on look north on an item about 60 years since closure
  8. There is a museum devoted to the mining industry in Skinningrove. Used to be tom Leonard mining museum but has changed its name sadly Tom lived in the house out the back of us when I was a kid
  9. Excellent as always David. What was going on on the old road track looks quite rusty?
  10. The area isn't so rural now Chris a relief road was built about 20 years ago between Brotton and Kilton I've been left the area since mid 90s and changed massively
  11. 60 years ago today the last ironstone mine in Cleveland closed at North Skelton ending an industry which started the boom in iron and steel making on teesside This is an interesting video which ends showing what could possibly be the last train leaving the mine with a Thornaby crew on a 25
  12. I got a 101 off ebay the other day, these 100s and 105 came to the area in the late 60s to enable Derby lightweights and 79xxx met camms to be withdrawn. I have a feeling some came from the LMR so my M prefix set may be prototypical. I've changed the destination blinds I have a couple of 105s and 4 Derby lightweights . I'm going to sacrifice 2 Derby lightweight vehicles to be part of the withdrawn stock train . A blue one and a gtrren one and run a hybrid set on the layout. I wish Bachmann or Hornby would do a 4 light 101 in a livery appropriate to 79xxx conversion I'm really pleased with the additional backscene as it's opened up a lot more photographic opportunities. Wasn't sure if having them either side of the layout would look odd but it seems OK
  13. They seem from a long gone era but were only 17 years old at the time. Where were the pictures taken ?
  14. Excellent pictures David. Grosmont looks so bare then . I think the layout was as it is in your picture when I was a volunteer there. I was there last week I remarked to my mate that when I was there could never imagined they would have had so many sidings at the shed. I do hope the site is stable as not only is there a river which can get very angry down one side there is also mine workings under it
  15. Fantastic pictures David. Completely unrecognisable now even though basic track layout is still quite similar. Vegetation is completely out of control in the area
  16. There's one next to the GE mainline Richard, where the branch to the LTS goes off at Bow. Probably about the most interesting thing on the journey these days
  17. Currently working on a set of scrap coaches. I'm thinking about sacrificing a pair of Derby lightweight cars probably a green and blue one then forming a mixed set to run . I have 2 sets of each
  18. Interestingly pictures David The viaduct was on the news earlier as again the area is flooded
  19. Hi Mark the 153s still have the embossed Leyland logo but Hunslet Barclay put a plastic patch over it. I've exposed a few in my time! Shame they didn't get the plughole logo
  20. Not me I'm afraid, I have classic cars that get multi stage washes. Won't park under trees even when out
  21. Would that BMC container have arrived by rail on a conflat?
  22. Hi Rob, happy new year to all on here Can't believe that ballast work was almost 11 years ago. I was on some of those trains. I think it was over 2 or 3 weekends
  23. We almost didn't buy our current hose as there was a huge oak tree in the front garden. The out of the blue the seller asked us if we wanted it felling. Not only was I worried about it falling on the house but it was in the way of where I wanted to build a garage but any vehicle parked under it would get covered in sap
  24. Thanks Arran . Is the livery 60s ? I was thinking 60s livery had the words Manchester liners on them
  25. Hi Arran , am I right in thinking the Manchester liners one is early 70s?
