Thanks ess1uk (and I had wondered about those ideas) but at the moment I think I am going to hold fire and do some research and practice  ;)

In the meantime however, having fettled the edge of the platform by the point to enable running round and having got the wall in position it was time to tackle the last major bit of ballasting, here is the scale of the job....not that big really in the scheme of things  :)

That's enough for one night

Back on it again the following evening

And at last more of the dreaded plywood has disappeared

Obviously it was then time for the best 50 ever to take centre stage, just ignore the container and Evoque!!!

I will probably add some extra surface textures in some of the wider areas but I have deliberately left them slightly lower so I have some options at a later date.

Then, I really wanted to get round to some serious testing but somehow Christmas and a requirement to decorate the kitchen seem to have got in the way, however I did like these few sneaky pics, a little night time ambience on the depot

And a lovely South West sunrise

Anybody out there had problems with Heljan 33 lights? The loco suddenly stopped working, research told me a higher rated (amps) decoder was probably more the order of the day. I briefly put a cheap decoder in to check it was working, it was with lights as well so I got a Lens decoder put that in and the movement is fine but the lights have stopped. I briefly put the cheap decoder back in, loco still moves but no lights. I've put the Lens one back in now and the control is ace but I've got no lights and can't find any loose wires and so any suggestions would be very welcome.

Also a this point in time, many thanks to all of you that popped by over the last few months and I would just like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year  :sungum:

Ajax - only good for cleaning sinks.

And hoovers are also good for cleaning.

Win win situation methinks.

Cheers,

Mick

Couple of coats of thinned matt varnish sprayed on, until the paint starts to look pale. When thoroughly dry a very pale Grey weathering powder (a mix of Humbrol Black & White, mixed myself) was lightly brushed on, then gently scrubbed off again with a toothbrush moist with thinners. Repeat until happy with the look.

The marks on the roof were done with a brush in a minidrill, but I did Ajax from an Ark Royal, so the roof was Grey under the Black I applied. !

Cheers,

Phil.

So a brief update with hopefully more to add as the week progresses.

So firstly for Christmas from my daughter I got a fishmonger  :sungum:

post-21158-0-76189400-1485820995_thumb.jpg

But that needed the roads permanently glued down. Now I liked the method I used to make them (found it on here somewhere) but I know they could probably be better....yes kerbs are still to be added

Then it was time for a little play, 45036 enters the docks on a trip working.

post-21158-0-48970400-1485821240_thumb.jpg

And 50031 enters with a local service from Plymouth

Finally as a taster for further updates this week my daughter also got me this mess room for the rear corner. It's a tight fit and I know it's not scratchbuilt (promise on my next layout much more will be), but there is an overall depot plan.......it's a shame for starters that the corner there is made up of 2 layout extensions that aren't flat!!!!!!

Thanks for looking.......I will try and get some more pics up tomorrow  :sungum:

Better late than never.......So I hacked some of the hillside away and marked a siding length

post-21158-0-02883400-1486426829_thumb.jpg

Got the slitting disc on the dremel (thanks Phil) and made some cuts and then boiling water on the ballast and a few minutes later away it all came

post-21158-0-63206500-1486426911_thumb.jpg

So I think the VGA would be the largest wagon to deliver the spares and the fork lift can just about get them to one of the stores

post-21158-0-99733100-1486427012_thumb.jpg

Time to level the area out......various materials used......and a lot of PVA!!!!!

post-21158-0-14248900-1486427092_thumb.jpg

Concrete sheeting glued down and weight added

post-21158-0-20225000-1486427180_thumb.jpg

Mess room located, along with potential stores container. Buffer added to siding and VDA for effect. Still got ballast to add to the edges of the concrete and lots of weathering/weeds but I think the essence of the depot corner is looking a bit better now

So somehow last week ended up working back on stock again. First up detailing and a light weathering on Dauntless

Completely debranded 50013 and made 50027 the last 50 my Dad and I needed for sight before they went and named them all

post-21158-0-29521100-1486598979_thumb.jpg

And then having detailed it I felt the Bachmann weathering on this example was a tad monochrome........so I had a go.......

post-21158-0-03790400-1486599074_thumb.jpg

As you can see I'm no expert at weathering but don't mind having a go, certainly not worthy of a workbench thread but I'd hate to think you were all thinking that nothing was happening on the layout........ :)

Shiny Peak - my eyes - they burn!

:sungum:

:jester:

Keep up the good work, but don't get distracted by too many Hoovers.......... We know someone who did and look what happened to him - he moved onto 47s.

Cheers,

Mick

Cheers Mick

I know you got all the Hoovers for haulage, but you'll be losing your '50 Basher' badge for saying things like that !!

Cheers,

Phil.
